VERBAL COMMUNICATION sharing of information between individuals by
using speech. is when we communicate our message
verbally to whoever is receiving the message.
It is done by word of mouth and writing. Verbal communication is divided into:
A. Oral communication and B. Written communication

GUIDELINES IN EFFECTIVE ORAL COMMUNICATION
Use language that can be easily understood by the listener.
Use clear and audible voice.
Body language and facial expression must be congruent with the verbal message.

B. WRITTEN COMMUNICATION
using sign and symbols to communicate. Written message may be printed or
handwritten. It is influenced by the vocbulary & grammar
used, writing styles, precision and clarity of the language used.
Written communication can be transmitted via • Email • Letter• Report• Memo

NON-VERBAL COMMUNICATION communication through sending and
receiving wordless cues. It involves unconcious mind acting out
emotions related to the verbal content, the situation, and the environment.
Non-verbal signals reflect the situation are more accurate than verbal communication.

A.1.1 FACIAL EXPRESSION
Plays a great proportion in non-verbal communication
It can convey countless emotion without saying a word.
Message can be expressed with a smile or frown.
Some forms of facial expressions are universal . The facial expressions for happiness,sadness,fear,anger,surprise and disgust are the same across the culture.

A.1.2 GESTURES These are specific bodily movement that
emphasizes a verbal message in conveying a particular thought or emotion.
It must be purposeful and must reflect what’s being said.
Gestures uses the :Fingers , hands, legs , shoulders or trunk

A.1.3 POSTURE AND MOVEMENT
Your posture plays a role in your communication efforts. These are the used posture and movement that your body does
consciously or unconciously : Crossed arms and legs indicated a defensive, proactive position, while
uncrossed arms and legs indicate a willingness to listen. Leaning away shows disinterest or that you are defensive. If you lean forward
it implies that you are open and interested. A slumped posture indicates that you have slow spirits, exhausted or that
you feel inferior, whereas, an erect posture shows high spirits and confidence.
Maintaining a rigid posture is interpreted by many to mean that you are defensive, while a relaxed posture translates to opennes

A.1.4 EYE CONTACT the act of looking directly into one another's eyes. People usually make the mistake of evaluating the effect of eye contact out of
context of the situation. For example a positive eye contact, which is usually 70-80% of the time,
might show that someone is interested in you but if that same person had some anger towards you then the more he looks towards you the more this means that he is hostile.
Staring and blinking can also be important in non-verbal communication. Looking at another person can indicate a range of emotions, hostility, interest
and attraction.

B. PARALANGUAGE Refers to vocal characteristics which include
the factors such as tone of voice , loudness, inflection, and pitch.
In text-only communication, such as email , instant messaging and chat rooms.
Paralinguistic elements can be displayed by emoticons, font, color choices and capitalization.

C. SPACE AND DISTANCE People often refer to their need for “personal
space” which is also an important type of non-verbal communication.Uses of space & distance to communicate
Proxemics means using space to communicate.
Haptics – touching behaviour, communication via touch.

D. APPEARANCE
Our choice of color, clothing, hairstyles, and other factors affecting appearance are also considered a means of nonverbal communication. According to what people see when they first set their eyes on you, judgments about your personality and abilities are going to be concluded.
"Quality is more important than quantity" - This really applies here as well. It is really pivotal to dress up properly for any business or job offer we
may encounter. One shouldn't focus on wearing too much accessories, jewelery and make up. What is very vital is the physical appearance and the proper hairstyle.
Appearances also include: * Body cleanliness, Clean Nails, Shiny shoe, No tattoo, Being appropriately
dressed .
