2. What are the Ethical Dilemma of Social Worker in their field of work? One ethical dilemma that I have encountered was at a time when I was in direct practice
working with victims of human trafficking. Being at the forefront of preventing and
protecting women and children in the past I often encounter the professional dilemma of
determining the true best interest ofclients vis--vis working towards seeking justice
against their traffickers or abusers. It has been my experience that seeking justice in the
country becomes a really traumatic process for clients especially to women/children and
their families. The long and rigorous process of court proceedings and external forces that
affects clients separation from home and stress that accompanies thatmakes me questionoften times if that was still the best interest of the client. I also feel that the legal process in
the country places much burden to victim-witnesses, who often are in conditions of
powerlessness As such, cases no matter how good may it be are dismissed because
eventually victims become uncooperative or would just opt to settle.
And so for me, the real ethical dilemma was how to weigh between aspiring/advocating
justice for the clients I was helping from that of looking after for their best interests.
3.
How they handled it?
My resolution always that above and foremost the best interest would still be my important
consideration. That victims as people themselves have the capacity to think and decide for
what they want for themselves. As a social worker, I can only provide options or alternatives
but at the end they are the ones who will consider what are they think are the best for
them. I also try to resolve this by making all interventions possible that would create an
environment that would be fruitful and advantageous to the victims. Coordination with the
LGUs also is being strengthened to address the concerns of the family. I try to establish a
good working relationship with their families also.
4. Ask their Personal reflection of the Social Work ProfessionMy one reflection about the profession is that really social workers are the
underappreciated professionals in society. That we have a very big contribution in the

betterment of our society/country. We are able to do this by having an impact to
individual peoples lives by making them help themselves, making them realize that they
have rights and entitlements. That in no matter what situation they are in they have
options to choose from. That no matter what specific social justice issue that we
advocate or espouse on, I believe that our interactions/work with people and theinfluence/impact that we have with them (no matter how big or small) are a testament
to our contribution to society.
