Strategy and TacticalAvon Cosmetics was behind schedule on a cost savings initiative involving several label and paperboard ven-dors with hundreds of components. I analyzed the production cycle of each component and determined that most would become obsolete bringing the total needed for transition to about thirty. I then worked together with design, engineering & copyrighting teams to create the mechanical art, which I transmitted to the new vendors. The successful completion of this efficiency project resulted in a significant packaging savings for Avon.

Print ManagementI attended several label and paperboard press approvals for Schlitz, Primo, McSorley’s Ale and Southampton beers. While on-press, I caught serious prepress mistakes on Schlitz Malt Liquor 16oz aluminum can and the Southampton 6-pack and offered appropriate solutions. These errors, if not caught would have jeopardized the launches of these brands.

Brand RedesignThe Nantucket packaging was confusing to consumers and expensive to produce. I managed the complete visual redesign of the brand including: Sourcing agencies, leading the design study and providing direction. I determined the visual element hierarchy increasing the logo and “All natural” communication, illustrative style, glass communication and flavor differentiation badging. The printing was converted to expanded gamut (Hexachrome). I also oversaw the changeover of closures, 4-packs and case art. Case sales increased 25% and was a major cost savings. The updated packaging won the 2007 American Graphic Design Award.

Brand RedesignWhen Snapple purchased the Stewart’s Brand from Cable Car beverages the packaging style did not match from flavor to flavor and looked like it had been created by different agencies. I directed the redesign of the logo, flavor icons and color stripe communication as well as integrating the glass, closure, 4-pack and case packaging. Former Snapple Beverage Group CEO, Mike Weinstein credits my work as being instrumental to the resurgence and success of the brand.

New Product Development & InnovationI managed the entire Mott’s US and Canadian brand design process on the above packaging initiatives: Mott’s for Tot’s Tetra Pak and multi-serve, Scooby-Doo apple sauce with inserted sticker and games for children, Mott’s Plus Juice & Sauce line and Organics. The Mott’s single serve project was created to compete with Tropicana in the convenience store channel. Mott’s for Tot’s won 2009 “Product of the Year USA awards” in the kids nutrition category.
