When

Thanksgiving,
I decided to
teach my monthly cooking class how

being par t icular ly
busy, I forgot a l l about the

since

In June. The mother of 2 grown

*** A great thr i l l for
me

first-ever Praise
Service (Singsplratlon).
I t was a marvelous 2-hour event,
among which a 10-song medley (another f i rs t I

everyone
gasping
for breath and joy. Sweet songs of Salvation ***

@@@ I had
planned
to
spend a
quiet
August
a t
home,
catching
up on
correspondence,
etc. . .
But
after
a
short trip
to Tokyo to be with Sachiko
during her
father s
funeral. I t seemed like everyone
who
always wanted to
visit
Hiroshima, did so...one right after the other But
I t was
a joy
to
share time
and
fellowship with the
VcocUn
AndeAdon family of
Hong Kong;
Bob and
HzZ^n
SonA
of Cincinnati, OH; Ve,my Bogg6, a
new
missionary to Japan;
yoke
ICckkam, of the
Ono church; John and Vce. Bvano^^ of Masslllon,
OH,
and their daughter-in-law,
BtcfUko,
who
along with
their
son
Zlck,
were
classmates
of
Sachiko s
at
Mllllgan College.
My quiet
August
was quite
an August. 000
For
V.B.S.
in 83,
I made an exchange agreement with the Okayama
Christian
Center since they were short of
s ta ff la st
summer. Ke^k
SmrmA6
came to
Hiroshima to
help with our 3day VBS,
and I went to
help
with
his
two 5day schools, one in the
iiK)rning
and one in
the
afternoon, each with a
di f fe ren t curriculum
About
50 di f fe ren t
children attended al together , so a
lo t
of
Gospel seeds were sown, . u *
September brought a time of
testing
and refining through the
fires
of
doubt, discouragement, misunderstanding,
and
criticism
on
the part of several
church memberST^Words
were
spoken; tears-were^ shett;
and
heairt^ were-heavy fo r
several weeks. God
showed
us the need of greater fellowship, of more often and
open
communication.
We
are not unscathed, but are stronger for the experience.
Christmas
was
an especially beautiful
and
blessed time. ALadies*
Tea
was
sponsored by our Ladies Bible Classs all worked hard on invitations, decor
ations, and our first choral special. A Youth-group party featured a Moody
science film and
minipizzas
along with songs and activities; the 10
who
attended
had a great time. For the Children s
Program
we prepared a sandwich lunch, games,
Christmas songs, message, slides; Sachiko and the Ladies had made 59 small canvas
tote bags
xdLth printed
picture and Bible verseand can you imagine that
EXACTLY ^ children came to the program?
***
Sachiko
came down with a terr ible high fever jus t before Christmas,
and had to miss our
church
fellowship dinner. We thought she just had a
cold, but
i t
turned
out to be a
stubborn
case of
tonsi l i t is .
She recovered by New
Year
s
though, and
was
able to
spend that
all-important holiday with her family.
I spent
my
holiday
In
Osakastudying.
Our
missionaries
sponsored
a
seminar on Kanjlthe Chinese characters
used
In writing
Japanese.
About 20 of
us tried to absorb In 3 days the contents of a 4-week course by Mr.

was quite
