They are both houses that work incredibly well for modern family life, but the developers retained features such as the old beams and they left the A-frames exposed so they have real character, and in Barn 1 most of the ceilings are vaulted so there’s an incredible feeling of space.”

“We lived in Barn 2 very happily for a couple of years and then Barn 1 came onto the market. It’s slightly larger, has double the amount of bedrooms and so we decided to buy it, move in and use Barn 2 as a rental property. It’s an arrangement that has worked very well for us. It provides a good income and we’re close enough to keep an eye on the place.”

“In Barn 2 I’d say that the kitchen is the real hub of the home. It’s open plan so it’s big enough for a dining table and therefore it’s a great space for both family life and entertaining. However, in Barn 1 I’d probably pick the main living room. It’s a lovely big room with a really impressive vaulted ceiling, and when the log burner is roaring away it takes on a really cosy atmosphere.”
