A massive welcome back to The Hive to our supporters. I mentioned it after the St Albans match; I’m so grateful and pleased that you guys have come out in your numbers over pre-season and got behind the boys.

I do sense that there’s a togetherness growing that I really am grateful for – I’ll keep driving that, every week, every day, every game.

We need to be together – it’s so important because we’re going to need our fans along the way.

Our supporters can pull us through some sticky situations over the course of the season, I’m sure.

I’ve got nothing but appreciation for our fans, not only for the support they they’ve shown the team and the club, but the personal support that I’ve had.

I’m so desperate to be the person that makes them happy and gives them a season to be proud of.

As a team, we’re hoping to provide the quality that we know we can display, but overall, I want consistency.

As much as I want to see the beautiful

game; passing on the grass with some exciting, attacking play, I’m also a big fan of a scrappy 1-0 win.

Let’s win a horrible game 1-0 off a set-piece, the result is always the same and we’ll always get the three points.

I want there to be a determination about

us, an aggression about us and if we can have that as a minimum, then the quality that we’ve got will shine

through.

Enjoy the match and#LetsBeeTogether

Darren

Finally, we’re back at The Hive for league football – I’m really looking forward to it.

I’m glad pre-season is behind us and we have plenty of games to look forward to this month, starting this afternoon against Yeovil.

We can’t wait to see the fans back at home this afternoon creating a fantastic atmosphere that we know they’re capable of. They’ve showed unbelievable support over the course of pre-season so it will be nice to be at home on the first day.

Personally, I’ve been pleased with pre-season and the fact I’ve been able to get through the course of the six games unscathed, unlike last year – I’m feeling in great shape.

It’s been slightly frustrating with the amount of injuries we’ve picked up but it’s part of the game – hopefully we get them out of the way now and keep everyone fit for the duration of the season.

The new lads have settle in really well. James Dunne only came in last week and he knew a

few of the boys from previous clubs and he’s a really good lad and even better player.

Loachy’s been brilliant since he’s come in. It’s been great to work with him every day and I certainly feel a lot safer with him behind me.

We welcome Yeovil this afternoon and they’ll have a point to prove after coming down from the league.

I’m sure they’ll want to bounce straight back starting on Saturday but

we certainly won’t make it easy for them.

Come on you Bees!

Yeovil Town Football Club is a professional association football club based in the town of Yeovil, Somerset, England. The team compete in National League, the fifth tier of the English football league system. The club’s home ground is Huish Park, built in 1990 on the site of an old army camp and named after their former home, Huish, itself known for its pitch, which had an 8 feet (2.4 m) sideline to sideline slope. The club’s nickname “The Glovers” is a reference to the history of glove-making in the town of Yeovil, which became a centre of the industry during the 18th and 19th centuries. The club’s affiliated women’s team, Yeovil Town W.F.C., compete in the FA Women’s National League.

Founded in 1895, the club initially joined the Somerset Senior League and competed in a multitude of leagues up until the outbreak of World War II. During this time they won titles in the Southern League, Western League, Bristol Charity League, Dorset District League and Somerset Senior League. They played in the Southern League after the war ended, winning the championship in 1954–55, 1963–64 and 1970–71, before

becoming members of the Alliance Premier League from 1979 to 1985. They spent the next three years in the Isthmian League, and were elevated into the Conference after finishing as champions in 1987–88. Relegated in 1995, they were promoted again two years later after winning another Isthmian League title. Yeovil won the 2002 FA Trophy Final and secured a place in the Football League after winning the Conference in 2002–03 under the stewardship of Gary Johnson. They then won the League Two title in 2004–05, before reaching the Championship with victory in the 2013 League One play-off final in Johnson’s second spell as manager. However they suffered consecutive relegations, and were relegated once more following the 2018–19 season, ending their 16 season spell in the Football League.

Yeovil were one of the most successful non-league teams in the FA Cup, having defeated major Football League teams, most famously Sunderland in the fourth round in 1949, before going on to play in front of more than 81,000 spectators away at Manchester United in the next round. For some years, as the only Football League side in Somerset, they had few local rivals since Dorset-based side Weymouth declined as Yeovil climbed the divisions in the 1990s and 2000s.

Yeovil Football Club was founded in 1890, and shared its ground with the local rugby club for many years. Five years later the current club was founded and named Yeovil Casuals and started playing home games at the Pen Mill Athletic Ground. In 1907 the name Yeovil Town was adopted, which on amalgamation with Petters United became Yeovil and Petters United. The name reverted to Yeovil Town before the 1946–47 season.

Yeovil’s Huish ground in 1983.The club came to national attention as ‘giant-killers’ during the 1948–49 FA Cup, in which they defeated Sunderland 2–1 in the fourth round, in front of a record home attendance of 17,000. They were defeated 8–0 in the following round by Manchester United .

Chart showing the progress of Yeovil Town FC in League and Non-League football from 1980–2017Between 1955 and 1973 they were champions of the Southern Football League three times, and runners-up twice. During this period, Yeovil Town applied for election to the Football League on a number of occasions, coming within a few votes of being elected in 1976. In 1979 the Glovers were founder members of the new national non-league division, the Football Conference. In 1985, they were relegated to

the Isthmian League. Yeovil won that championship in 1988 and returned to the Conference. There was success in the Bob Lord Challenge Trophy in 1990 and three years later Yeovil finished fourth in the Conference, their best finish ever. In January 1995, former Weymouth and Spurs player Graham Roberts was appointed manager, but demotion back to the Isthmian League soon followed. Yeovil secured promotion back into the Conference in 1997 after winning the Isthmian League with a record number of points – 101.

Colin Lippiatt became manager for the 1998–99 season and brought Terry Skiverton to the club as a player. Gary Johnson took over as manager in June 2001 and Yeovil won the FA Trophy in his first season in charge with a 2–0 victory over Stevenage Borough

in the final at Villa Park – the club’s first major trophy. Yeovil Town earned promotion to the Football League in the following season, by winning the Football Conference by a record 17 points margin, accumulating 95 points and scoring 100 goals, remaining unbeaten at Huish Park. Their team included many top players, some of whom went on to play Premier League football. Notable players include Gavin Williams who moved to West Ham United, Lee Johnson, Chris Weale, Darren Way and Adam Lockwood.

Yeovil’s first game in the Football League was a 3–1 away win over Rochdale. The Glovers finished their first season in eighth position, and reached the third round of the FA Cup before losing 2–0 at home to Liverpool. Before the game the club released a record sold only in shops in the town: “Yeovil True” reached #36 in the UK Singles Chart. The following season Yeovil finished as champions of League Two with 83 points, earning promotion to League One. Partway through the season the club was sold by Jon Goddard-Watts to David Webb, who took over the role of chief executive from chairman John Fry.

Yeovil flag at Wembley StadiumAt the beginning of the 2005–06 season manager Gary Johnson left Yeovil for Bristol City. He was replaced by his assistant Steve Thompson and Kevin Hodges was appointed as his number two. At the season’s end Thompson was demoted to first-team coach and he was replaced by Russell Slade. Around this time John Fry had bought all Dave Webb’s share of the club, becoming Yeovil Town’s new owner. They again reached the fourth round of the FA Cup and were drawn away against Charlton Athletic, then in the Premier League, to whom they lost 3–2.

Yeovil finished the 2006–07 season in fifth position, qualifying for the League One play-offs. In the semi-final Yeovil beat Nottingham Forest in the two-legged match 5–4 on aggregate, after losing the first home leg 2–0.Yeovil met Blackpool at Wembley Stadium in the final, but

were beaten 2–0.

The 2007–08 was less successful, as Yeovil finished 18th in League One with 52 points. Russell Slade continued as Yeovil manager into the 2008–09 season, but he left the position in February 2009. After one game with assistant manager Steve Thompson acting as caretaker manager, club captain Terry Skiverton was announced as manager until the end of the 2009–10 season, with Nathan Jones as his assistant. The duo had to wait seven games before their first victory, which came against Swindon Town. The 1–0 victory was vital considering Swindon were also flirting with relegation and it started a good run of form with two more wins and a draw against difficult opposition. Yeovil secured their League One status with a 1–1 draw against Tranmere Rovers on Saturday 25 April, an achievement which may not have been possible without the loan of Jonathon Obika from Tottenham Hotspur. It was Obika’s four goals that kept Yeovil up. At the end of the season, Terry Skiverton had to discuss contracts with players such as Terrell Forbes and Lee Peltier.

Yeovil made a good start to the 2009–10 season with a 2–0 win over Tranmere but then went seven league games without a win. After this they went six games unbeaten including victories over Brentford, Carlisle United and Bristol Rovers before this was ended by a 4–0 drubbing away at leaders Leeds United, on 31 October 2009. The return of Gavin Williams, on a loan spell from Bristol City, helped Yeovil to end the season strongly.

REACHING THE FOOTBALL LEAGUEbottom of the table at Christmas. However, new signings including Max Ehmer and Paul Wotton helped turn the season around starting with an unbeaten run in January; Terry Skiverton was nominated for Manager of the Month and Paul Huntington, who had scored three goals during the month, won Player of the Month. In March, Yeovil recorded their highest away league victory with a 5–1 win over Leyton Orient. A six-match unbeaten run at the end of the season including wins over Notts County, Colchester United and Carlisle United helped Yeovil finish the season in 14th, their second-highest league finish. Dean Bowditch was again Yeovil’s top scorer with 15 goals (seven in the last two months of the season) and Andy Welsh, who moved onto Carlisle United at the end of the season, finished with the most assists.

The 2011–12 season again started poorly, and Yeovil found themselves in the relegation zone at Christmas for the second consecutive season, and this prompted a change of manager.

On 9 January 2012, the club announced the re-appointment of Gary Johnson, with former manager Terry Skiverton becoming assistant. Yeovil made their best ever start in the 2012–13 season, picking up 10 points from their first four games. However the unbeaten run came to an end on 8 September as they suffered a

1–0 home defeat at the hands of local rivals Bournemouth. Yeovil hosted Premier League side West Bromwich Albion in the second round of the Football League Cup and although they took the lead early on, they ended up losing 4–2 after conceding two late goals from Shane Long and Yassine El Ghanassy. Yeovil finished the 2012–13 season in 4th place,

reaching the League One play-offs, they reached the final on 6 May 2013 after a 2–0 home victory against Sheffield United, after a 1–0 loss at Bramall Lane in the first leg. On 19 May 2013, Yeovil defeated Brentford 2–1 in the League One play-off final at Wembley, reaching the second tier for the first time in their history.

Yeovil spent one season in the Championship before suffering an immediate relegation back to League One. The club’s struggles continued the following season, manager Gary Johnson being eventually replaced by Paul Sturrock as Yeovil suffered another relegation, returning to League Two for the first time in 10 years.

Snapped up by the Glovers in February 2018 following his release from Gillingham, experienced stopper Stuart Nelson signed a new two-year deal at the end of the 2017/18 campaign.

Leaving Priestfield after an almost six-year stay the 36-year-old headed south to bolster Town’s goalkeeping options.

With over 400 EFL appearances to his name, ‘Nels’ has also enjoyed spells with Brentford, Leyton Orient, Norwich City and Notts County, as well as a stint north of the border with Aberdeen in the Scottish Premier League.

Retaining the number one jersey for a second successive campaign, Nels will play a key role this season.

Arriving for a second spell with the club in January 2019, Matt Worthington signed a two-and-a-half year deal from AFC Bournemouth.

A loanee during the 2017/18 campaign at Huish Park, the Cherries academy graduate then spent the first half of the current campaign at Forest Green Rovers before returning to the Vitality Stadium.

ManagerDARREN SARLL IS AN ENGLISH PROFESSIONAL FOOTBALL MANAGER AND COACH WHO IS MANAGER OF YEOVIL TOWN. HE BEGAN HIS CAREER IN FOOTBALL AS A MIDFIELDER IN NON-LEAGUE FOOTBALL AND ENTERED MANAGEMENT WITH STEVENAGE IN 2016.

Sarll was a product of the youth system at Isthmian League Premier Division club Hitchin Town and left the club in 2002. He subsequently played in the Conference South, the Southern League and the Spartan South Midlands League for Berkhamsted Town, Bedford Town, St Albans City, Chelmsford City, Dunstable Town, Hemel Hempstead Town, Chesham United and Biggleswade United. After taking up coaching and dropping out of non-league football, he moved into Sunday league football.

STEVENAGE BOROUGH

Sarll began his coaching career with Conference club Stevenage Borough and served as a coach in a variety of youth and reserve roles. During the 2006–07 season, he managed the youth team to the final of the Colwyn Cup, which was lost to Dunstable Town.

BRENTFORD

Sarll joined League Two club Brentford as youth team manager prior to the beginning of the 2008–09 season. After the promotion of first team assistant manager Andy Scott to the full-time managerial post halfway through the season, Sarll also assisted Scott as first team coach and also became the first manager of the reformed reserve team in 2009. He left the club at the end of the 2010–11 season.

ROTHERHAM UNITED

Sarll followed Andy Scott to League Two club Rotherham United in July 2011 and took over the role of Head of Player Development. After Scott’s sacking in March 2012, Sarll departed the Don Valley Stadium at the end of the 2011–12 season.

RETURN TO STEVENAGE

Sarll returned to Stevenage, then having risen through the pyramid to League One, in June 2012.He held the role of Head of Youth until 2 June 2015, when he was promoted to first team coach after the appointment of Teddy Sheringham as manager. After the sacking of Sheringham on 1 February 2016, Sarll was named as caretaker manager. Five days later, Sarll’s first match in charge resulted in a 1–0 League Two defeat to Crawley Town. After losing six of his first 9 matches, Stevenage sought the services of Glenn Roeder to advise Sarll. Under Sarll’s guidance, Stevenage ended the season with one loss from their final 9 matches and rose from the relegation places to finish 18th. Sarll was given the manager’s job on a permanent basis in May 2016.

The 2016–17 season proved to be one of inconsistency, despite an undefeated run of eight wins in 9 matches establishing the club in the playoff zone by March 2017. Any promotion hopes were extinguished with a winless run in the final six matches of the season and the club finished in 10th place. During the season, Sarll oversaw the transition of Dale Gorman, Jamie Gray, Mark McKee and Luke Wade-Slater from the academy set-up into the first-team.The 2017–18 season began with wins in six of the opening 11 matches, before the inconsistency of the previous seasons set in. Despite strengthening the squad with a number of new signings in January 2018, a run of just four wins from 26 league matches between October 2017 and March 2018 led to Sarll’s sacking on 18 March 2018.

Two days after Sarll’s departure as manager, chairman Phil Wallace stated he had a “very high opinion” of Sarll and that it was always his intention to keep him on in a “technical development role”.Sarll was appointed to oversee all of the club’s youth development, both domestically and overseas and he took up the new position on 28 March 2018, before departing Broadhall Way in June 2018.

WATFORD

On 13 June 2018, it was announced that Sarll had joined the academy at Premier League club Watford and he would work with the older age groups and share the role of Head of Academy. He was suspended, following allegations of bullying, on 30 January 2019 and “amicably parted ways” with the club two weeks later.

YEOVIL TOWN

On 19 June 2019, Sarll was announced as manager of National League club Yeovil Town.

Yeovil Town stormed to the Isthmian League championship with 101 points in 1996-97. Warren Patmore scored twice as the Glovers began with a 3-2 victory at Grays and Graham Roberts’ side opened up a gap at the top by October. A seven-match unbeaten run ended with a 3-0 defeat at rivals Enfield the following month but Yeovil bounced back to win 3-2 at home to Sutton United. Ace marksman Howard Forinton arrived from Oxford City in January and Enfield briefly displaced Yeovil as leaders. The two sides drew 2-2 in front of 8,007 at Huish Park in March and the Glovers eventually won the title by a six-point margin.

Gary Johnson plotted Yeovil Town’s League One play-off final success in 2012-13. The Glovers dropped just two points in their first four games before plummeting with a club record six successive defeats. After a period of inconsistent results they soared back into the promotion frame with a club record eight straight wins. Leading scorer Patrick Madden and James Hayter netted 36 League goals between them as Yeovil qualified for the play-offs in fourth position. They defeated Sheffield United 2-1 on aggregate in the semi-finals, then Brentford 2-1 in the Wembley final to reach the second tier for the first time in their history.

Yeovil Town scored 100 goals as they swept to the Conference title in 2002-03. Gary Johnson’s side failed to win their first two games but Howard Forinton returned and the Glovers surged to the top with a thrilling 14 match unbeaten run, trouncing Southport 6-0 and Telford 5-0. Kirk Jackson arrived from Stevenage in November and finished leading marksman. Yeovil won 18 times in 23 Conference games, slamming four goals past Gravesend, Kettering, Farnborough, Hereford, Doncaster and Dagenham as well as trouncing Burton 6-1. They won the title by 17 points, finishing with a 1-1 draw against Chester watched by 8,111.

Phil Jevons scored 27 goals as Yeovil Town won the League Two championship in 2004-05. Other summer signings included Scott Guyett, Michael Rose and Bartosz Tarachulski, with Yeovil hammering Oxford United 6-1 and going top of the table after a 2-1 win at Shrewsbury in late September. They regained pole position with ten victories in 11 games, also beating Darlington 1-0, Histon 3-1 and Rotherham United 3-0 in the FA Cup before losing 3-2 at Charlton Athletic in the fourth round. Phil Jevons grabbed a hat-trick in a 4-2 win over Bristol Rovers and the Glovers clinched the title with a 3-0 victory at home to Lincoln.

Welcome to a new season at The Hive. The Barnet Walking Football Team has just completed a busy few months. As part of the Bees in the Community, we held an amazing games night at the Hive Bar in aid of Mind Mental Health Harrow and raised a wonderful £530 which will help so many in our local community. In recognition of our twin fan base, last year we raised £600 for Dementia Club UK, Barnet.

We thank Mr Kleanthous for his auction contribution and all at BFC for their help and of course Igor behind the Hive bar for his support on the night.

After only a few years playing competitive walking football our football team did the double! We won The Middlesex FA Central Spring league over 60s and our over 50s finished runners up - a fabulous achievement! We also have in our defender Tom Moran our first England International WF player. The growth in our success, football, fun & social is on an upward trend and we thank Matt Dixon and Ash Pritchard for their support .

Over the last month whilst Matt and The Bees in the Community look to re-fund their NHS Mental Health Unit football team, we welcomed our walking football brothers to our Friday sessions and we hope to hold another games evening to help with their much needed funds.

The Barnet Walking Football Team ... not just a walking football team.

If you would like to join us at The Hive, our sessions are open to all over the age of 50 who can walk, breathe and kick a ball. Sessions are on Thursdays 7pm-8pm and Friday 2pm-3pm at £3 an hour per person on the Astro pitches.

It’s great fun so come and join us!

The club are delighted to confirm that Goalkeeper Sarah Quantrill will be remaining at the Bees for the 2019/20 season.

The Bees goalkeeper is delighted to be remaining at The Hive for another season and is looking to excel once again following on from a brilliant 2018/19 campaign, which saw her pick up the players’ player of the season award.

She said “Yeah I’m excited, we have a new manager in for this season and the team is gelling together nicely. I hope it will be a good year!”

“Personally like always I want to do my best for the team, I have their backs and they have mine. We need to work together.”

“It’s great to have Lee (Burch) in as manager, he has done it at the highest level, so it can’t be anything but good for the club to have him here.”

The Bees kick off their FA Women’s Championship season with a London derby against London City Lionesses (August 18th) and the Bees keeper cannot wait for the opening whistle to kick start the season.

“It’s obviously a massive game, they are the team that everyone wants to beat, it’ll be a tough match for sure. No one likes pre-season, so I just cannot wait for it all to start!”

It is the first announcement of many to come from the club so stay tuned on London Bees social media accounts for more player information.

This summer has seen quite a few former Barnet players find new clubs. Among those is Nicky Bailey, who played for us between 2004 and 2007, helping us to win the Conference title in 2005, before returning to the Hive in 2015, where he made a further 4 appearances. Since his departure from the club, he has featured for the likes of Southend United, Charlton Athletic, Middlesbrough and Millwall, and has amassed over 175 Championship appearances. After his second departure from us, he spent a few seasons at his first club Sutton United, helping them to a National League South title in 2016. However, for this season he drops back down into the National League South with recently relegated Havant and Waterlooville.

Many fans will remember, who left us very recently, at the end of last season. Having started out his career travelling around several non league clubs in south west London and the surrounding area, such as Henley Town, Basingstoke Town and Hampton and Richmond Borough, he eventually found himself at Maidenhead United in 2014. He would play for the club for 3 full seasons, where he would have an incredible goalscoring record, finding the net 95 times in 141 games, that a goal every 1.48 games! He started the 2017/18 season with the Magpies, scoring 7 goals in just 6 games, before being brought to the Hive on transfer deadline day. However his two year spell at the Hive would be destroyed by injury, picking up a serious injury in one of his very first games, leaving him out for almost a year, before picking up a similar injury on his first game back. In total he only made 17 appearances in black and amber, with only 1 goal. After a loan back at Maidenhead, he was loaned to Woking, then in the National League South, where he started to pick up his goalscoring form again. He has now signed for the Cards on a permanent basis.

The FA this week increased their minimum ban on anyone, including players, coaches, other club staff and fans, found guilty of racial abuse. The original ban set at 5 games was brought in back in 2013, and this is the first time since then that it has been increased, where guilty offenders will now be suspended for 6 games. This changes comes after a 43% increase in racial and sexist abuse during the 2018/19 season. It was also reported that abuse based on religion, e.g. islamophobia and antisemitism rose by as much as 75%. The new minimum ban will be given out to anyone found to have aimed discrimination at someone based on their gender, sexuality, religious beliefs or disability, as well as racist language.

The draws for the extra preliminary and preliminary rounds of the FA Cup have already been made, and feature some of our local clubs.

Cockfosters travel to Leyton Athletic in the extra preliminary round, whilst Enfield 1893 go to Fairfold Town. AFC Hayes host Wembley, Edgware Town are away at Slimbridge, North Greenford Untied were drawn at Tuffley Rovers, Hadley host Redbridge and London Colney host Hadleigh United. These ties are set to be played next weekend The preliminary round draw has been made, but many ties are yet to be confirmed, as they are dependant on clubs which clubs win their ties in the previous round.

The first qualifying round draw for the FA Vase has also been made. Cockfosters will host Coggeshall United, Enfield 1893 will travel to Ilford and Colney Heath are at home to London Lions. Wembley are on the road at Chalvey Sports, whilst Rayners Lane go to Hillingdon. Enfield Borough are set to make the long trip up to Ipswich Wanderers, London Colney take on Brimsdown and Leyton Athletic go to Hashtag United. North Greenford United will play at Irchester United and Leverstock Green will entertain Aylesbury Vale Dynamos. These ties are set to take place on the weekend of 31st August.

Burton Albion manager Nigel Clough has said that the Premier League should be sharing more of its money with lower league clubs. This comes

after the Brewers’ League 1 rivals Bury and Bolton Wanderers both got deducted 12 points for financial issues, both of which amount to just fractions of what most top flight clubs earn in a year. “I genuinely think there is enough money in football at the moment to support everybody. I know the Premier League have so much control because they control the purse strings, but also there is a responsibility to the rest of football” said Clough, who is the son of the legendary manager Brian Clough. “I know they do a lot anyway, but they’ve maybe go to do just a little bit more. There is an awful lot of money at the top of the game, but I think a little more could be spread out among the other teams”.

Peterborough United are set to buy back their London Road stadium from Peterborough City Council in October. The club originally owned the ground, but had sold it to a property developer back in 2003. The Posh have been playing at the stadium since 1934, but are currently in the process of deciding their long term plans, whether to renovate the ground or to build and relocate to a new ground elsewhere in the city. This deal comes just a few months after they had sold the naming rights of the ground for £2 million, with it now called the Weston Homes Stadium.

John Sebastian, lead singer of the Sixties beat combo the Lovin Spoonful, had a huge American hit with this name, covered years later by the rapper Mase. So we attempt to improve on last season, when being the leading FA Cup side in North London only slightly compensated for disappointing League form. Darren Currie is still learning his craft, but the encouraging unbeaten run shows there is the basis of a decent side. Obviously there will have been additions related elsewhere in this programme, but we have a team who know this division well just as Messrs Fry, Fairclough and Allen did back in the day.

Here in the jewel of the Welsh countryside Brecon and Radnor elected a new MP, thus adjusting the Government majority to either one or two. Amongst the candidates was the official Monster Raving Loony, Lilly the Pink. I did not make the hustings, and she was one of just three candidates who spoke. Cos she invented medicinal compound, most efficacious in every case, I will have followed her progress with interest

When I lived in London, I occasionally saw the London Bees, both under that name, and their previous alias of Barnet Ladies. So I followed the women’s World Cup, and the success of England will doubtless influence the attendances at the Hive.

Phil Neville’s positive attitude helped them on their way. I was privileged I, in 2012, to be at the Olympic Final, so the United States remain the benchmark, but the European nations are catching up. On a cold winter’s day helped organise a trip to Southport where Barnet Ladies took on Everton in the FA Cup. It could happen again, and with the improved facilities here in the Hive hopefully will.

Yeovil’s run in the Football League, some seventeen years, came to an end a year after we departed the 92, which only last weekend I saw referred to as the 91 due to Coventry’s current problems. The website footballgroundsmap.com , of which more in the next notes, did not do the same when the Sky Blues had their unhappy time at Northampton. Anyway I recall Yeovil True, their hit record being played on National Radio One, and making Number 35 in the charts and in your hearts. Not sure if that was spun when Swansea City scored six the other day, but pre seasons only tell you so much, the phony war as I often call the games.

Contact [email protected] is my contact if you have any supporters’ news, which was the original raison detre of this column. The internet can be a blessing and a curse, with opinions on the Bees varying between amusing or intelligent musings to sweary vlogs cursing the opposition. Just in the last 24 hours I read a sensible blog written by MrTonbridgebee [not, I suspect the name on his birth certificate} which

contained the first part of an interview with Darren Currie.

The sensational dramatic World Cup victory must have particularly struck a chord as I woke up in hospital a few hours later. Really don’t know or recall much of what happened in the intervening hours, but that seems worth a mention on Test Match special. I opined to the listeners of Hospital Radio Barnet the following weekend that there seemed a case to share the trophy as both the actual fifty over game and the Champagne Super Over were tied. The eventual rule that left New Zealand as runners up was extremely obscure, and seemed previously unknown.

In 1967 Barnet played Yeovil for the first time, and Underhill witnessed a 1-1 with Whyte the scorer. What happens today remains to be seen, but it will be debated for a while both in Somerset and the bars of the Hive as the new season finally starts. On with the motley.
