I am pleased to provide you with the excellent HSC results from the leaving Class of 2019.

On behalf of the 129 previous years of this community I express the warm congratulations and thanks to the graduating year of 2019. They have been magnificent and memorable in every way. Their leadership connected the College, brought us to new heights in creative and performing arts, in community action, in academic leadership. Their record speaks to us of brilliant art works, stunning drama pieces, glorious music, heroic and memorable sporting achievements. They have achieved national representatives in several sports, in Robotics, Design and Technology and in several scientific pursuits. This was an incredible year group. For this we give thanks to the Lord for the blessing that the 2019 Year 12 has been to our community.

Four students topped the State: in Physics, Standard Mathematics 2, Agriculture and Swedish Continuers (studied externally). We extend our congratulations to David Lu, Finn Vercoe, Linn Hendriks-Movig and Amanda Matejka, respectively, on this outstanding achievement.

David Lu also recorded the highest possible ATAR of 99.95 - an exceptional result. Further, Barker had 32 All Rounders (achieving top Band results in 10 or more units), a record number.

Of note are the 198 students who achieved a Band 6 – this is also a record number of students. This year more than 90% of students in the following subjects – Design and Technology, Drama, English Extension 1 and English Extension 2, Investigating Science, Mathematics Extension 1 and 2, History Extension, Music 1, 2 and Extension, Visual Arts and several of our languages subjects including Chinese, Japanese and Latin - achieved a result in one of the top 2 bands.

There were 47 nominations for the various performing arts/practical work showcases.

Barker is equally proud of the countless students in our graduating year whose efforts surpassed their own aspirations, demonstrating once again that the diversity of the School is a strength. To one, to all, we offer our deepest admiration and thanks.

While the HSC results for students and subjects are released to schools, the ATAR scores were released confidentially to the students alone. Barker is a non-selective school and we are greatly encouraged to see the exceptional effort that our students invested in their work. This augurs well for their future in whatever endeavour they choose to pursue. We continue to be competitive with schools that have selective student cohorts.

The HSC League Tables published in the media fail to capture the countless stories of outstanding effort by students who lift themselves into higher bands by consistent and focussed efforts. I honour them for their dedication. The Heads of Department, Heads of House and all staff should be congratulated for their support of their classes.

I wish all families a peaceful and joyous Christmas as we celebrate the Saviour’s birth.

To the Barker College Community

Phillip Heath AM Head of Barker College
