NEW TAB ON SCHOOL WEBSITE

‘Learning From Home’ is a new tab added to

the top right of our school website to assist

our communication strategy. Under this tab

you will find ‘How to’ instructions and videos

as well as learning plans and daily timetables

for each class. These resources get updated

continuously as teachers provide learning

plans for your children and you give us

feedback about where you need help. This site

is the first point of call for parents to quickly

find student learning plans.

ONLINE TEACHING AND LEARNING

PLATFORM Microsoft Teams is the teaching and learning

platform that our school will be engaging with

during this period of remote learning. We

have chosen this platform because it is a

Department of Education platform and

therefore a secure site for students and

teachers to share teaching and learning.

Teachers can store all the documents and

resources students require in the team files.

Students can access all of their class learning

from the Microsoft Team Class platform and

teachers will be guiding students as they

develop their skills to navigate in a virtual

world.

If your child requires a device to engage in

online learning and they currently are

required to share a device with a sibling,

please contact the school for assistance.

BUS RUNS

The school buses continue to run and Lakes

have generously offered to help you in

accessing educational resources for your

child. You can meet the bus at your bus stop

to put things on the bus in the morning and it

will be dropped at school. In the afternoon,

teachers can put any learning resources you

require on the bus and it will be delivered to

your bus stop. Please let your bus driver know

if you would like a pick up. School staff will

inform you if there is a package being dropped

off to you in the afternoon.

NEW ‘LEARNING FROM HOME’ HUB

The Department of Education has recently

launched a ‘Learning from home’ Hub on the

Department of Education website which

provides information and resources for

teachers and parents to support students

learning from home. You will find the advice

for parents pages helpful as you set up

learning environments at home for your

children.

ATTENDANCE

Normal attendance processes apply for your

child during their time of learning from home.

Teachers will be marking students based on

their interaction during the school day. That

interaction can include class online meetings,

class lessons, phone calls and emails. It is

important to communicate with the

classroom teacher at least once a day so that

we know your child is engaging with lessons.

STUDENT WELLBEING

We have sent home social stories to help your

child understand COVID-19 and how to

protect themselves from illness. It is

important that you talk with your child about

how they are feeling. We have hygiene

measures in place to ensure that we can

continue providing a safe environment for

your child if you require to send them to

school. Don’t hesitate to contact the school if

you would like to discuss any aspect of your

child’s attendance.

HEEL HUB PRINCIPALS’ MEETING

On Friday 13th March, I had the privilege of

working with my principal peers at our Term 1

HEEL Hub meeting. These Hub meetings are

part of our Network activity with the Director,

where small groups of principals work

together to develop skills and understandings

that extend their leadership capacity. HEEL

stands for ‘Higher Excellence Effective

Learning’. The name of our Hub serves to

make visible the commitment the principals in

our group have made to improving individual

and school leadership and performance. It

was a productive day and a privilege to be

hosted by Mayrung Public School and Mrs

Julie Eason.

State Championships. Unfortunately, the

championships have been cancelled.

EASTER ASSEMBLY AND HAT PARADE

In the current climate, school gatherings are

not possible. This does not stop us having a

different sort of Easter Hat Parade. Students

will make hats as a home learning creative arts

task. On Wednesday 8th of April we will ask

students to send to their teacher photos of

themselves with their Easter hat on and we

will create a virtual parade that we can put in

our foyer and upload to our website. Please

let your teacher know if you do not wish your

photo to go on the website and it will be

omitted.

NATIONAL DAY OF ACTION AGAINST

BULLYING

Whilst the National Day of Action Against

Bullying was postponed, we continued our

individual classroom activities and “Odd Sock

Day” to raise awareness about the importance

of looking out for each other and accepting

differences.

From Grade 3/4

The Grade 3/4s participated in a discussion

about what bullying is and the different types

of bullying. We then listened to a song created

by some students, called, 'Be a Buddy, Not a

Bully.' Students then worked in groups to

create their own chants and presented these

to the class.

Bullying's Not OK! By Emilee, Hannah, Olivia and Ebony

Getting pushed in the mud and rain,

that's not ok!

hey, hey, heyyyyy

not today.

Stick up for yourself and others,

because it's not ok!

hey, hey, heyyyyy

Be a buddy not a bully!

Don't bully!

From Grade 2/3

During our anti-bullying lesson we acted out

how to solve problems. We talked about ways

to deal with bullies and we had a fun time. We

decided that next time we saw bullying,

instead of saying nothing we would stand up

for the person being hurt.

HOCKEY CLINICS

Arrangements for the hockey clinic in our

school, with classes engaging in lessons

independently of other classes, enabled us to

continue with the Hockey Clinics on Friday. It

was a wonderful day and we thank David and

Brioni for their enthusiasm on the day.
