Bill Carns makes his return to the director’s chair for the first time since Valpa-

raiso University’s 2006 production of Keeping Up. William graduated from

Valparaiso University in 2005 with a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre. Bill has also

directed selected scenes from Christopher Durang’s Baby with the Bathwater, as

well as numerous shows for both improvisational and sketch comedy. William

was last seen on stage in the roles of Steve and Randy in last year’s VTC produc-

tion of Almost, Maine, and has also appeared in VTC productions of Arsenic and

Old Lace (Jonathan Brewster) and Dial “M” for Murder (Tony)

Saturday, May 10, all women and girls are invited to bring their favorite dolly to a fancy dress afternoon tea, just in time for Mother’s Day! Homemade soup, finger sandwiches, scones, chocolates and, of course, luxurious teas will be part of the fun. There will be door prizes, a silent auction, photos with royalty, balloon art, and, of course, live entertainment!

Ticket $25.00 pre-sale; $30.00 at the door. See the Box Office tonight for tickets or information, or visit www.brownpapertickets.com/event/521651

A Fundraiser for VTC — Help Us Continue to

Provide Quality Entertainment &Support Charities

Leave the world a better place. That is what I have learned in life. You don’t have to be rich, well-

educated and know all of the right people to be able to make a difference. About 64.3 million

people volunteered time at least once between September 2010 and September 2011. My heart

was lightened by that statistic – a statistic that reflects well on us as a society. For a short time, you

just need to care about someone else as much as you do about yourself. VTC was founded upon

that principle. By attending a show, you can say that you did your part to give back, to the tune of

$6 from your $10 ticket. That is the amount that we have committed to giving back to each charity

on any given performance night. Our funds to produce shows are acquired mostly through

donations. Truthfully, I feel as if VTC is, when you truly look at things, a philanthropic organiza-

tion or charity group with a theatre problem! Please give generously of your time to those in need,

and if you have it, your funds, as well. Thank you! ~ Colleen M. Zana, VTC President

Pam Tschida (Mrs. Ethel Banks) Pam is returning once more

to the VTC stage, having made her stage debut in Prelude to a

Kiss and enjoyed the experience enough to join VTC again for

their last production, Specter of Treason: The Lee Harvey

Oswald Trial, as Marguerite Oswald, the mother of the

infamous assassin. She joined VTC in 2011, serving as a

rehearsal assistant for The Kitchen Witches, and now serves on

the VTC Board of Directors. She is thrilled to be satisfying a

lifelong passion for the theatre. Outside of the theatre realm, Pam recently opened

her own salon in Valparaiso – look for the ad in tonight’s program! She would

like to thank her Mother for giving her the acting bug, and her children for

keeping it alive.

Steve Zana (Delivery Man) Many in the Region are familiar

with Steve’s voice, if not his face – he’s been host of the Indiana

105 Dawn Patrol for 15 years, and also runs Let the Good Times

Roll DJ & Photo Booth Services. Originally from Louisiana

(Go Saints!), he’s lived in Indiana since 1983, so he thinks it’s

safe to call him a Hoosier. He loves being on the radio, but is just

as fond of the theatre. In addition to being VTC’s Vice President,

he serves on the NIETF Board of Directors and the Memorial

Opera House Foundation, and has been involved with over 50

plays in the NWI area at various venues. When not DJ’ing or playing around on

stage, Steve enjoys his Man Cave (the “Voodoo Lounge Deux”), colleting various

hot sauces, and spending time with his wife, Colleen, their two sons (and their

significant others) and their grandchildren.

In conjunction with this

production, VTC is holding an Online

Pampered Chef Fundraiser. Every order will help raise money for VTC AND for every $5 spent, you get entered to WIN the Pampered Chef On-The-Go Insulated Collapsible

Picnic Basket (retail value $41.00) filled with goodies!

Our Mission

The mission of the Valparaiso Theatrical Company Inc. is to offer

professional-quality theatre at an affordable price while giving to

charitable causes. Whether the plays are socially relevant classics,

contemporary or new plays with vision, giving back in an artistic and

monetary way to the world is our mission. While performance is its own

reward, the VTC Board is committed to giving a portion of its own

profits from each show to other non-profit and charitable causes.

Michael “Doc” Kuhn (Victor Velasco) Doc is pleased to be doing

another show with VTC. No theatrical novice, Doc has been

involved in over 100 productions from NWI to Heidelberg,

Germany. This is Doc’s fifth show with VTC; his first turn on stage

with the company was as Oscar in The Odd Couple, then more

recently as the Old Man in Prelude to a Kiss (2013 NIETF Nomina-

tion), Phil in Almost, Maine, and most recently as Judge Clarence G.

Underwood in last fall’s Specter of Treason: The Lee Harvey

Oswald Trial. A few of his most recent shows are A Few Good Men as Col. Jessep

at Crown Point Community Theatre and Early One Evening at the Rainbow Bar

and Grille as Jake Ballard at 4th Street Theatre. In addition to being an actor,

‘Doc’ serves on the Board of Directors of both VTC and NIETF, the Northwest

Indiana Excellence in Theatre Foundation.

Patrick Morley (Paul Bratter) is a longtime Chesterton resident

who has enjoyed participating in community theater for over a

decade. He has had the privilege of performing at several regional

theaters, most recently in Chicago Street Theatre’s 2012

production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, when he first shared

the stage with Carly (and her awesome dog!). He would like to

thank his director, Bill, for this chance to tackle his biggest role

yet, in a story whose fixed setting in time belies its timeless

themes. He would also like to thank the entire company for their

hard work and support of one another during a challenging production. As Mrs.

Banks put it, “You’ve just got to give up a little of you for him.” Thanks for your

bit...

Nick Russ (Telephone Repair Man) Nick is happy to return to the

boards once more with VTC, having made his debut with the group

in the dual roles of FBI Agent James Hosty and Patrolman Bobby

Hargis in last fall’s Specter of Treason: The Lee Harvey Oswald

Trial. No stranger to the theatre scene, Nick has been frequently seen

over at Crown Point Community Theatre, where he has performed in

Cyrano, Othello and A Midsummer Nights Dream among others. He

would like to thank the director, crew, and cast for coming together

and making a great show, and the StairMaster for helping him to prepare for the

role (“That’s a lot of steps!”).

Carly Smith (Corie Bratter) This is Carly's first production with

VTC, and she couldn't be more proud to be a part of this amazing

cast! Carly has appeared on the Chicago Street Theatre's stage as

Molly in the world premiere of the play American Rex, and as the

fairy Peaseblossom in the inaugural Shakespeare in Central Park

Plaza production of A Midsummer Night's Dream. You can see her

grace the footlights once more later this year as Izzy in Rabbit

Hole, opening in May at Chicago Street Theatre. Carly would like

to thank her husband, Ryan, for understanding the call to theatre

and running lines to the point of exhaustion. Thanks for being "a good sport," Ry!
