Welcome to Alcatraz for the 5th Annual Charity Shield. This highly anticipated match is a highlight on both the Baa Baas & Blues calendar,

both teams currently have their names on the shield twice and to add more fire to the game the teams will also be playing for the

challenge cup which last weekend saw the commencement of a new initiative for New England rugby. The launch of the inaugural Challenge

Cup is based on the Horan-Little Shield of the NRC and the famous Ranfurly Shield of New Zealand's NPC, the Cup is a game-by-game

trophy defended by the weekly holders of the Cup.

Last years grand final rematch was a fitting debut to determine the first holders of the Cup, and Armidale's victory has them the current holders. Armidale have excepted our challenge to try take the trophy off them.

All proceeds from this years Charity shield will be going The Leukaemia Foundation which is Australia's peak body for blood cancer, funding research and provides free services to support people with leukaemia, lymphoma, myeloma and related blood disorders, and their families.
