THIS PROJECT WAS GIVEN TO US AS A REAL WORLD APPLI-CATION. WHICH ALLOWED US TO DETERMINE HOW TO INTE-GRATE GOOD DESIGN WITH THE CONSTRAINTS OF BUSI-NESS IMPLEMENTATIONS.
WE WERE GIVEN THE TASK OF DESIGNING A GREENHOUSE AND GROCERY STORE. THIS WAS TO DRIVE COMMUNITY INTEGRATION AND STRONG BUSINESS PRACTICES.

THIS DESIGN WAS TO EVOLVE TO THE COMMUNITY NEEDS. I CREATED A PLACE THAT WAS EVER CHANGING, TO HAVE THE ABILITY TO ADAPT TO THE COMMUNITY. MY DESIGN IS AN EXAMPLE OF PUSHING THE LIMITS OF WHAT WE THINK A GREENHOUSE COULD BE. I DECIDED THAT I DIDN’T WANT ONE GREENHOUSE BUT MUL-TIPLE GREENHOUSE’S THAT ALL SERVED DIFFERENT PURPOSES. THIS ALSO STRENGTHENED THE IDEA OF THE ADAPTIVE GREENHOUSE.
EACH CUBE WAS TO BE RENTED OUT TO INDIVIDUALS OR A GROUP OF PEOPLE. THIS IS TO PROMOTE COM-MUNITY ENVOLMENT WITHIN THE DESIGN. I MADE EACH CUBE CUSTMO-MIZABLE SO THAT IT WOULD FIT THE NEEDS OF EACH INDIVIDUAL.

THIS GRAPHIC IS A VISUAL REPRESENTATION OF THE HOUSING SIDTUATION IN WESTWOOD. I LEARNED THAT WESTWOOD CONSIST OF LOW INCOME HOUSING. THIS IS CONSISTATN WITH THE MAJORITY OF THESE HOMES ARE LESS THAN 1000 SQFT ON 7000 sqft LOTS. WHICH ALLOWED ME TO COME TO THE CONCLUSION THAT THESE FAMILIES DID HAVE ANY SPACE TOGATHER.
THE INTERIOR IS A REFLECTION OF THE NEED OF THE COMMUNITY. IT IS A PLACE WHERE PEOPLE CAN GATHER TO BE WITH OTHERS IN THEIR COMMUNITY. I WANTED THIS SPACE TO BE A RELIEF FROM THE NORMAL DAY AND AN ESCAPE. THIS ESCAPE WOULD ENCOMPASS A CAFE, GAR-DENING WHICH COULD ACT AS A TYPE OF THERAPY, AND FRIENDSHIP. THIS IS A PLACE OF COMFORT. I DESIGNED SOME-THING THAT WOULD GIVE AN OPPORTU-NITY WHERE ALL ARE WELCOME AND RACE DOESN’T MATTER. I DESIGNED A PLACE THAT PROMOTES INTEGRATION AND COM-MUNITY.

IN THIS PROJECT WE WERE GIVEN THE TASK OF CREATING A SACRED PLACE. MY INTER-PRETATION OF THIS WAS THROUGH THE PROCESS OF HEALING. I WANTED THIS TO BE A PLACE WHERE THE THERAPY OF WATER HEALS THE BODY. THE LIGHT PLAY OFF THE WATER AND THE INTEGRATION WITH WATER ALLOWS PEOPLE TO BECOME COMPLETELY IMMERSED INTO THIS SACRED SPACE. I WANTED TO ENHANCE THE SURROUNDINGS OF SLOANS LAKE AND TAKE QUE'S FROM OUR SURROUNDINGS.

TO HAVE THE DESIGNINTE-GRATE INTO THE LANDSCAPE, I MADE IT BECOME PART OF THE LANDSCAPE. THE LOW LEVEL OF THE ROOF ALLOWS FOR A STRONGER SENSE OF INTE-GRATION.
WHEN PEOPLE ARE ENTERING THE DESIGN I HAD CLIENTS DESEND INTO THE SPACE TO INDICATE THE TRANSITION INTO A SCARED SPACE. I DID THE BY THE USE OF LIGHT AND ITS INTERACTION WITH WATER TO CREATE A PEACEFUL ASTMO-SPHERE.
THE RIBBON IS A WHERE I DE-RIVED MY FORM, AND HAD THE RIBBON CONTANTED WITHIN A BOX BUT ALLOWS IT TO BREAK THE SIMPLE FORM.THE WATER RIBBON RUNES THROUGHOUT THE SITE, THIS IS TO REPRE-SENT THE JOURNEY OF HEAL-ING. I CEATED A SPACE WHERE ALL TYPES OF HYDRO-THERAPY CAN BE USED. .

THE LANDSCAPE WAS IMPOR-TANT TO EXPRESS THROUGH ELIMENTS PULLED FROM THE ARCHITECTURE DIRECTLY. I TOOK THE SHAPE OF THE EX-TRUDING WINDOW AND THEN TRANSLATED IT ON THE THE LANDSCAPE. CREATING DIFFER-ENT ZONES THAT WOULD HOUSE DIFFERENT ACTIVITIES ON EACH STRIP. THIS ALLOWS PEOPLE TO SWIM DURNING THE SUMMER TO BUILD SNOWMEN IN THE WINTER. THE PLACEMENT OF THE SITE IT NEEDS TO ACT AS A BUFFER BETWEEN RESIDEN-TIAL AND COMMERCIAL. WITH THE FEXIBLITY OF THE SITE IS SERVES AS BOTH.

THE TASK WAS GIVEN TO DE-VELOP A RIPARIAN EDUCATION CENTER. THIS I FOUND WAS A CHALLENGE BECAUSE, HOW DOES ONE MAKE A RIPARIAN EDUCATION CENTER INTEREST-ING AND APPEALING TO A LARGE AUDIENCE.
I FIRST BEGAN TO CONSIDER THE MAIN ENTRANCE THROUGH THE SITE AND THAT WAS A BIKE PATH. MANY COMMUTERS TOOK THIS PATH IN THE MORNING WHILE HEADING TO WORK AND THEN AGAIN UPON THEIR RETURN TO HOME. THIS SITE NEEDED TO FIT A LARGE DEMO-GRAPHIC FROM YOUNG TO OLD, AND ANY OTHERS IN BETWEEN. I BEGAN BY CREATING AN INTERESTING THRESHOLD.

MY INSPIRATION STEMMED FROM GROUPS THAT TRIED TO KEEP RIPARIAN PARKS INTAKE. THIS IS WHERE I WANTED THE EDUCATION PART TO TAKE PLACE. I WANTED TO TEACH PEOPLE HOW TO PRESERVE OUR NATURAL WORLD. THIS IS WHERE MY DESIGN STARTED TO COME ALIVE.
I CREATED A GRAPHIC THAT MAPPED OUT PARKS WHERE THE GREENWAY FOUNDATION CONTRIBUTED TO THE PRESER-VATION TO THESE SPACES. THE GREENWAY FOUNDATION IS UNIQUE BECAUSE IT GIVES YOUTH AN OPPORTUNITY TO LEARN AND PARTICIPATE IN THE PRESERVATION OF THESE SPACES. SO I WANTED MY DESIGN TO BE THEIR HOME B A S E .

I TOOK THE CIRCLE GRAPHIC AND PLACES THE INTERSECT-ING LINES OVER THE SITE THEN CREATED MY MASSING OUT OF THIS GRAPHIC. I THEN SHIFTED SPACES BASED ON FUNCTION. THEN I WANTED THE DESIGN TO BECOME APART OF THE LAND-SCAPE SO I HIGHLIGHTED THESE AXIS THROUGH THE SITE BY EXTRUDING THE LAND UP AND DOWN TO CREATE A UNIQUE EXPERIENCE. THIS AL-LOWED THE ARCHITECTURE TO BE NESTLED INTO THE LAND-SCAPE WHILE GIVING INTE-GRATED TO THE LANDSCAPE. WITH IN THE LAND IT CREATED OPPORTUNITIES FOR MANY DIFFERENT ACTIVITIES.

THIS PROJECT WAS ONE OF MY FAVORITES. I LOVED THE IDEA OF CREATING A GALLERY THAT WOULD FIT THE SITES NEEDS. I CAME TO THE CONCLUSION THAT A FURNITURE GALLERY WOULD BE A GOOD ADDITION TO THE HAMILTION BUILDING THAT WAS ADJACENT TO THE SITE. I WANTED TO DRAW MY INSPIRATION FROM THE VERY OBJECT THAT WOULD BE DIS-PLAYED THERE.
I WANTED TO EMULATE THE BENT WOOD EFFECT. THIS BEGAN AS A ROOF APPLICA-TION BUT I FOUND IT WOULD BE MORE POWERFUL AS AN INTE-RIOR APPLICATION. THIS WOULD DRAW PEOPLE INTO THE ARCHITECTURE TO ALLOW FOR BETTER CIRCULATION.

FLOOR PLANSI CREATED A SPACE THAT WAS ELEGANT AND BEAUTIFUL. THAT CURVED CEILING THAT WAS INTEGRATED INTO THESE FINS ALLOWED FOR GOOD SEPARA-TION OF THE OPEN SPACE. AL-LOWING FOR GOOD ORGANIZA-TION OF FURNITURE DIS-PLAYED. I FELT THAT WITH A LARGE WINDOW ENCOMPASS-ING THE GALLERY IT GAVE TO MAXIMUM EXPOSURE TO PASS-ING PEDESTRIANS. THEN THE WORK SPACE IS SEPARATED TO GIVE EACH PROCESS THEIR OWN SPACE.

I FIND ART TO BE A GREAT THERAPY TO ME. I ENJOY MAKING UNIQUE AND BEAUTI-FUL PIECE. MY GOAL IS TO TRY EVERYTHING ONCE JUST TO SEE IF IT SHOULD BE ANOTHER OUTLET TO EXPRESS MYSELF. I LOVE TO CREATE SOMETHING AND TAKE THE TIME TO SEE IT COME ALIVE. I FIND THIS VERY SATISFYING IN DRAWING AND PAINTS WHICH ARE SOME OF MY FAVORITE PAST TIMES.

PHOTOGRAPHY IS JUST AN-OTHER OUTLET FOR MYSELF TO CAPTURE A MOMENT OR MEMORY. I LOVE PHOTOGRA-PHY BECAUSE IT ALLOWS ME TO HIGHLIGHT THE BEAUTY IN ANY-THING. I PERSONALLY LOVE PHOTOGRAPHING ARCHITEC-TURE NEW AND OLD. IT’S A RE-MINDER OF WHERE I HAVE BEEN AND GIVES ME THE GOAL TO TRAVEL FURTHER.
