that there were obstacles such

as societal constraints to

women entrepreneurship and

unavailability of information

and guidance.

However , it was realized that,

self-employment played a very

positive role in the lives of these

women . It instilled them with

confidence , power of decision

making , raise living standard for

about savings , nutrition levels

Support from society , family

Banking needs of construction workers (Ankita Singh,Bharat Wadhwa,Mathew Joseph,P Saipriya,T K Rao) Tall and beautiful buildings at-

tract us with their design and

construction. There is however

much less consideration for the

construction workers that made

them . A study of building project at

’Chandan’, Clover Garden was

made by students team , in order

to understand financial and

banking related problems of

construction workers who have

to migrate in search of jobs and

livelihood .

The study leads to observation

that around 40% of them had no

bank account .As they are in an

occupation which is migratory

in nature they operate through

their relative’s bank accounts. Their main services include

saving a/c, ATM and remit-

tance . There is need for providing

better customized banking ser-

vices as per their needs. Bank-

ing at all branches should be

provided to them. They should

be given facilities to operate

from all branches of bank.

With rapid urbanization , the

number of people in these occu-

pations are increasing , a better

strategy could also give banks

good business.

Farming upgradation through Self Help Group (Ashish Shrivastava, Himanshu Kashyap, Mohit Nigam, Vipul Nagda and Saurabh Kumar)

Case study taken for analysis is

of a Pune based farmer club

registered as SHG , with a vision

to convert obsolete farming

methods into High tech –

farming.

In accordance to their vision

they have created ‘Polyshed’ ,

Self help group have certain char-

acteristics that provide them

strength like homogeneous needs,

decision power , freedom to inno-

vate and introduce better practices

in their work.

Banks prefer credit to SHGs due

to various advantages such as

follow:

Low transaction cost

Simple loan procedure

No collateral required

High repayment performance

due to group pressure

Appropriate rate of interest .

Vegetable vendors present in rural

as well as urban areas form an im-

portant link in the food chain of

society. The level of usage of

banking services is important for

their efficiency.

Although their most of the transac-

tion are on cash basis but several of

them used mobile transactions and

basic banking facilities and have

interest to move further ahead on

this way .

The use of mobiles by vendors in

order to track daily prices of vegeta-

bles in Sabji-Mandis , placing pur-

chase orders and schedule deliveries

was also observed.

Conversation with vendors like

helped their life by giving DRI loans

and in this way banks were able to

serve them better.

where high quality vegetables

and high value farm products

are cultivated .

Farmers also introduced flori-

culture in their farms , which

have attracted buyers from

Pune and Mumbai. They have

goal to generate rs.1000 per day

per acre of land .

It may be that if all farmers

come out together and form

similar type of group will help

this nation to turn out to be food

rich country and enhance its

prosperity .

Visit by the team was made to understand

their banking needs and financial services .

It was interestingly observed that vegetable

vendors of Kondhwa were quite technol-

ogy oriented.

Dagdusheth in Pune is well

known to everyone. It is also

known for its social initia-

tives such as old-age homes

and orphanages which is

funded by ‘Dagdusheth-

halwai Ganpati Trust’.

Ageing is a concern for de-

veloped world but in India it

is not so . Consequently

facilities for the old people

are not well developed . This

part of society is still ne-

glected and concern over

lack of better facilities is

still not felt .

Under this project work team visited

to the residents of NIBM to under-

stand the reason why they are not ac-

tively participating in directing the

household wastes to the biogas plant.

Some problems identified were :

1. Canteen waste was mainly used

because of location proximity but

the quantity was less.

2. Separation of garbage into biode-

gradable and non-biodegradable

was not proper

3. Collection, transport and feeding

of dry leaves was difficult.

Students team tried to spread aware-

ness about the benefits of biogas as

renewable source of energy.

NIBM’s Goal is to have a “zero

waste campus”. In pursuit of the

same an organic waste manage-

ment system consisting of a bio gas

plant at the NIBM campus has

been constructed.

However it was found that biogas

plant was not working to its full

capacity.

The major problem identified was

that required quantity of waste as

an input into the biogas plant is

either not available due to under

collection of garbage and under

feeding of the plant.

Lack of awareness amongst resi-

dents and staff members was ob-

served.

yoga, visit by family

members, celebration,

festivals, trust among

each other, hygiene etc.

Regular medical check-

ups are also done by doc-

tors..

It was observed that

many of them did not

know about bank

schemes for senior citi-

zen , pension schemes ,

r e v e r s e m o r t g a g e

scheme . Banks can play

an important role in their

life by counseling them

to invest and utilize their

savings in better manner.

Students have studied Old-

age home named as

‘Pitashree’ in Kondhwa ,

which take care of deprived

elders and accommodate

around 150 people on one

acre of land

They found that the old age

home was like a family where

old people without family

support.live together and enjoy

life far away from fast paced

society.

Old-age homes are preferred

by many as they find like

minded companionship and

safety in living together .

The people here give impor-

tance to social life, recrea-

tional activities , TV. music,

They educated the canteen staff about

the precautionary and the safety

measure that should be observed in case

of any breakdown of the system.

Interaction with the housekeeping staff

was done.
