16.  India has decided to take a decisive stand on

Internet governance at a conference being hosted in

Baku, Azerbaijan, from November 6-9. India will bid

to host the Asia Pacific Internet Governance Forum

(IGF) to be held in mid-2013.

17.  Veteran Bharatiya Janata Party leader and formerGovernor of Gujarat and Rajasthan Kailashpati

Mishra died at his residence in Patna after prolonged

illness.

18.  Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said that the

allocation in the 12th Plan had been fixed at Rs. 3-

lakh crore, which was 1.95 per cent of the Gross

Domestic Product.

19.  Free generic drugs would be made available through

public hospitals to help “reduce out-of-pocket

expenditure of the poor” on health.

Rakesh Mohan has assumed charge as ExecutiveDirector on the Board of the International Monetary

Fund (IMF). In addition to India, Dr. Mohan will be

representing Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Bhutan on

the IMF Board for a three-year term.

21.  British government announced halt to further

financial aid to India but said that all existing

commitments until 2015 would be honoured.

22.  6th South Asian Association for Regional

Cooperation (SAARC) Speakers and

Parliamentarians’ Conference held at Islamabad. Lok

Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar participated in thisconference.

23.  Advanced Grape Research Station will be established

in Uthamapalayam in Tamil Nadu.. A vegetable

processing centre will be set up in Dindigul.

24.  Undergraduate students at the premier Indian

Institutes of Technology could see their annual

tuition fees hiked to Rs. 90,000 next year, after a

committee of IIT directors recommended the 80 per

cent increase. Anil Kakodkar Committee

recommended this hike.

25. 

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India said thatonly 100 SMS a day will be allowed at concessional

rates. For every SMS beyond the cap, a minimum of 

50 paise would be charged.

26.  Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal

led a 45-member delegation of five Cabinet

Ministers, industrialists and traders to Pakistan for

boosting economic ties between the countries.

27.  A three-day international conference, ‘Ramanujan

125,’ to mark the 125th birth anniversary

celebration of Srinivasa Ramanujan, began at the

University of Florida in the USA.

28.  The Reserve Bank of India said banks could become

members of stock exchanges to undertake

“proprietary transactions” in the corporate bond

market.

29.  A seminar on small airports in the Asia-Pacific region

is being organised by Airports Council International

(ACI) in Hyderabad from November 7 to 10 to

discuss the common concerns and interests of smallairport operations, to evaluate their needs,

challenges, latest developments and outlook of the

industry.

30.  Union Tourism Minister K. Chiranjeevi announced

“Find What You Seek” campaign in London. In this

campaign Tourists from world over can find the

destination or product of desire in India.

31.  Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper visited

India. Both sides succeeded in finalising the

mechanism that could lead to Canadian uranium

being shipped to India. The two sides also signed asocial security agreement which had been in the

works for some time.

32.  CII’s Autoserve 2012, an exhibition on automotive

care, maintenance, service, parts and garage

equipment, will be held in Chennai from November

16 to 18.

33.  Vijayalakshmi Iyer has taken charge as Chairperson

and Managing Director of Bank of India. She replaces

Alok K. Misra, who retired as CMD on September 30,

2012.

Moody’s downgraded Arcelor Mittal’s long-termcredit rating by one notch to Ba1, putting it into

speculative or ‘junk’ territory.

35.  Congress president Sonia Gandhi inaugurated the

Rail Coach Factory at Lalganj in her Rae Bareli. Rae

Bareli factory will be the third of its kind facotry

after the Integral Coach Factory, Perambur, Tamil

Nadu, and the Rail Coach Factory, Kapurthala,

Punjab.

36.  U.S. President Barack Obama reelected again for

second time for four more years to consolidate his

legacy.37.  The Maharashtra government decided to raise the

annual cap on the number of subsidised cooking gas

cylinders per household from six to nine. The

decision will be applicable only to people holding

yellow and saffron ration cards.

38.  State Bank of India opened its Kohinoor branch, an

exclusive premium banking centre for the HNIs

equipped with the state-of-the-art technologies and

providing all banking facilities to cater to the elite

customers. This is the second Kohinoor branch of the

SBI in Andhra Pradesh, the first being Kohinoor

Banjara in Hyderabad.

39.  Dr. Ami Bera elected to the U.S. House of

40.  The government deferred the 12.5 per cent stake

sale in Nalco, saying the company’s second quarter

financial performance was not reflective of the true

financial position of the aluminum major.41.  The Andhra Pradesh High Court set aside the lifetime

ban imposed by the Board of Control for Cricket in

India (BCCI) against Mohd. Azharuddin, former

captain of the Indian cricket team, on charges of 

match-fixing.

42.  The Centre ruled out extension of the deadline for

enforcing the Right to Education Act beyond March

2013 as several States are yet to achieve the

standards laid down under the Act for school

infrastructure.

BrahMos Aerospace firmed up a contract worth Rs.6,515 crore with the Indian Air Force for

manufacturing the air version of the supersonic

cruise missile, a product of Indo-Russian

collaboration.

44.  The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA)

has approved divestment of 10 per cent equity in

HAL out of its holding on 100 per cent through an

Initial Public Offer (IPO) in the domestic market as

per the SEBI rules and regulations.

45.  India took delivery of the fifth Russia-built multirole

stealth frigate INS Tarkash.46.  The British tax authorities launched an investigation

into allegations of money laundering against HSBC

which has been accused of opening offshore bank

accounts in Jersey for serious criminals living in

Britain.

47.  Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said that the

payment of ration subsidies to APL cardholders

through banks would begin from January next year.

48.  Anti-corruption campaigner Anna Hazare announced

that he would launch a national campaign against

corruption on January 30, 2013, death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. Social activist Anna Hazare

threatened to go on another fast if the government

fails to pass a strong Lokpal Bill before the 2014

general elections. Mr. Hazare would inaugurate his

new office at Sarvodaya Enclave in south Delhi.

49.  Mr. Nitish Kumar was on weeklong visit of Pakistan.

50.  Mr. Karzai was in Mumbai to assure Indian business

leaders that Afghanistan was lucrative and safe for

investment.

51.  The United Nations has declared November 10 as

'Malala Day' in honour of Pakistani teenage rights

activist Malala Yousafzai, who was shot in the head

by the Taliban last month for campaigning for girls'

education.

52.  The government is considering a proposal to make

the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) a

multimember body. Shunglu panel’s suggestion to

make changes in the CAG is under active

consideration.

53.  The advanced version of low-cost tablet Aakash waslaunched by President Pranab Mukherjee. Coming at

a price tag of Rs. 1,130 for students, the new version

‘Aakash 2’ is now powered by a processor running at

1 GHz, has a 512 MB, a 7-inch capacitative touch

screen and a battery working for three hours of 

normal operations.

54.  A great-grandson of Mahatma Gandhi Shanti Gandhi

has been elected to a State Assembly in the United

States during the general elections held on

November 6.

The Petroleum and Natural Gas Ministry haslaunched “Project Lakshya” to reduce waiting time

for delivery of LPG cylinders and track duplicate

connections.

56.  The second Indian Biodiversity Congress (IBC)

58.  The 1991 Nobel Peace Prize winner and Myanmar’s

opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi arrived in India

after a gap of nearly four decades as part of New

Delhi’s ongoing engagement with the democraticand multi-party polity in Myanmar.

59.  United States President Barack Obama has invited

three Indian-Americans, including PepsiCo Chief 

Executive Officer Indra Nooyi, as part of his wider

consultations with leaders from business, labour,

civic community and Congress on the current

economic crisis.

60.  Four Indian naval submarines took part in the Indo-

U.S. exercise, Indiaex-2012, held off Goa early this

month where the compatibility of the submarine

rescue system of the U.S. Navy with Indian Navysubmarines was tested for the first time.

61.  Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has postponed his

three-day visit to Japan. Later Japanese Prime

Minister Yoshihiko Noda dissolved the Lower House

of Parliament paving the way for elections. Elections

were set for December 16.

62.  The Communist Party of China (CPC) selected a new

Central Committee, marking the end of Hu Jintao’s

10-year term as General Secretary. The CPC

concluded its once-in-five year National Congress to

choose the party’s 18th Central Committee. It will

remain in power until 2017.

63.  Inflation on Wholesale Price Index (WPI) declined

marginally to 7.45 per cent in October.

2012 came into force this month. Under the Act, achild is defined as any person below the age of 18

once again passed an official decree banning import

campaign in the next general elections in 2014. Mr.

Gandhi will head a high-power, five-man Election Co-

ordination Committee to oversee all party activities.

68.  Xi Jinping was pronounced the General Secretary of 

the Communist Party of China (CPC) and the head of the party’s Central Military Commission.

69.  Europe slipped into recession for the second time in

three years. The Eurozone’s economic output

further fell by 0.1 per cent in the third quarter.

These economies had already registered a 0.2 per

cent drop in the second quarter.

70.  Public sector banks (PSBs) will hire 63,200 persons in

the current financial year, Finance Minister P.

Chidambaram said. The country’s largest bank SBI

will alone recruit 20,000 clerical staff and 1,200

officer level employees. There were 84,489vacancies at various levels in state-owned banks at

the end of the last financial year.

applications for the same pending passage of the

Banking Laws (Amendment) Bill.

79.  Freedom fighter and Gandhian C. Bandi Gowda who

participated in the Quit India movement, died.80.  Amendments to the General Anti-Avoidance Rules

(GAAR), the controversial law against tax avoidance

through foreign investments, have been finalised,

Union Finance Minister P. Chidambaram said. Earlier

the government appointed a committee headed by

tax expert Parthasarthi Shome to look into their

concerns.

81.  Prime Minister Manmohan Singh arrived phnom

penh in Cambodia to attend ASEAN summit. Apart

from attending the India-ASEAN summit and the

East Asia Summit (10 ASEAN members - plus eightdialogue partners), Dr. Singh is expected to hold

Savita Halappanavar died in Ireland on October 28

after doctors refused to terminate her miscarriage

pregnancy on the ground that Ireland is a Catholic

Country.

106. Tony Hall was appointed the BBC’s Director-General.

107. The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA)

approved sale of 9.5 per cent government stake out

of its holding of 84.50 per cent in NTPC.

108. Islamic banking is not permissible under existing

rules, RBI Governor D. Subbarao said.

115. Direct cash transfer of subsidies through theAadhaar card will be rolled out in 51 districts across

15 States from January 1, 2013 announced. The

scheme would aim to cover the entire country by
