BAND SAW SAFETY
Be sure to set the blade guide to 1/8” above the cutting surface to avoid twisting the blade as you are working
Keep your hands two inches from either side of the blade at all time. If you must cut a smaller piece use a push stick.
Do not place hands in front of the blade. The material may have weak spots and slip taking your hands into the blade
Do not stand to the right side of the saw while in use
Never reach around a moving saw blade. Clear scrap with a piece of wood 10” or longer, or stop the machine and clear debris with a brush
When cutting curves, use relief cuts
Use a Vee-Block to cut round stock
Should the blade break while in use. Turn off the power and wait for the machine to stop. Immediately notify your instructor.
When backing out of a cut be sure to turn the machine off first to avoid un-tracking the blade.
Special setups require previous permission and support from the instructor
Remember the two most important safety rules1. Wear safety glasses at all times2. Use common sense. If and operation
seems dangerous or you are unsure of it DON’T DO IT!!!
