Band 2 of Sampler

Materials:

• Kreinik Fine (#8) Braid 024 & 9200

• Kreinik Tapestry (#12) Braid 024

• Needlepoint Inc Silk Color 683 (Hot Pink Range)

• Rainbow Gallery Petite Sparkle Rays PS26

• Access Commodities Metallic Soft Twist Cord MTW 20578 Silver

• SJ Designs Faux Pearls 3mm Round Rainbow (3 beads)

• Miyuki 15/0 White Pearl #15-420

Please read all directions before stitching. The threads choices are what I used, please use what you have in your own stash.Master Chart is only a portion of the band. Start from the Middle and center your Crescent heart. Once you have stitched one side of your band repeat from the center to the other side of the band. Beads are optional. If you like how it looks without beads them omit them.

A. Crescent Heart with Beads

Crescent Heart Numbered

• The numbers with a slash share holes.

• Make sure you count to your first stitch two - three times to ensure you have the correct count. If you are off by one you will have to rip it out and start over.

• Don’t tighten your thread until you have come up for the next stitch.

• When you sink your thread at stitches 58, 60, 62, be sure to slide under the previously stitched threads.

• Stitch one crescent at a time. The two make up your heart.

• Center your heart in the middle of your band.

• The original Band 1 width is 140 threads.

• Count down 23 threads from the dividing band.

• I used 2 colors of #8 Kreinik to stitch the heart. If you do this thread both needles and alternate stitches with the colors of your choice.

• I used Kreinik Fine (#8) Braid 024 & #9200. I then added 3mm Pearl beads once the heart was stitched.

B. Rhodes Heart

• I used Petite Sparkle Rays PS26 to stitch the heart. I then used Silver Metallic Soft Twist Cord for the long stitch. (see master graph)

• Refer to master chart for placement.

• From the bottom of your Crescent heart you will count over 16 threads and up 1 thread. This is the bottom of your Rhodes heart, stitch #20. Mark this hole and count to start your first stitch. I gently enlarged the hole to ensure I counted to the correct placement on all my hearts.

• To place the cord you will need to secure it in the back then enlarge the holes with your laying tool or an awl. This is very thick cord and you will need a #16 or #18 needle.

• Stitch one long stitch as shown on master graph.

C. Heart in Heart with Beads

• Refer to master graph for placement.

• From the bottom stitch of the Rhodes Heart count over 15 threads and down 2 threads. This is the bottom stitch #55 of the Heart in Heart. Mark this hole and count over to the first stitch. Again I enlarged my hole slightly then counted over a couple of times.

• I used 3 ply of Needlepoint Inc Silk #683 for the outside heart and Kreinik Tapestry (#12) Braid 024 for the inner heart.

• I added Miyuki 15/0 White Pearl beads after the hearts were stitched.

D. Rhodes Heart

• From the bottom, lowest thread, of the Heart in Heart, count over 15 threads and up 2 threads to find the bottom of the Rhodes Heart, stitch #20.

• Again enlarge this hole slightly for your reference. Count to first stitch.

• I used the same Petite Sparkle Rays PS26.

• Follow the previous directions for placement of Silver Metallic Cord.

• Refer to master graph for placement.

E. Braided Heart

• From the bottom/lowest stitch of your Rhodes Heart count 14 threads over and 2 threads up. Again enlarge this hole slightly to have a reference. Count over to your first stitch from this hole.

• I used one strand of Kreinik Fine (#8) Braid 024.

• This is a lovely stitch but make sure your count is correct.

Repeat the hearts from the center crescent heart to complete the band on the other side. It is a mirror image of the first half of the band.

Crescent Heart

Bands 1 & 2, both are incomplete. You can see Band 1 is also mirror imaged from the center motif. I had stitched the last Pinwheel snowflake but found the count was off by one thread. I ripped it out and have to stitch it again!
