    He used Sun Tzus The Art of Warto

    train his commanders in a holistic

    appreciation of operations, and his

    great standard displayed calligraphy

    for Wind, Forest, Fire, and Mountain,

    from Sun Tzu. It referred to the Takeda

    motto taken from The Art of War:Swift

    as the wind, silent as a forest, terrible

    as fre, and immovable as a mountain.

    The words embodied Shingens poli-

    cies and philosophy.
