On June 6, 2016, we held the 84th commencement of the Baltimore School of the Bible. It was a very joyful occasion for all in attendance. Some students jumped up and down in gleeful celebration, some wept with tears of joy, some just waved their hands in praises to Jesus, and some fell to their knees and said short prayers of thanksgiving to the Lord.

As I stood there watching these various reactions, I remembered how many obstacles some of these students had to overcome. Tears came to my eyes many times during the ceremony.

I will miss Brother Dario DiBattista and the students that graduated on this wonderful day.

Looking back on this event, three things came to mind that illustrates how God works in lives of His children. There are three main points I would like to share:

Plan God has a grandiose plan for His creation. His plan is scripted out in His Word, The BIBLE

Purpose Within God’s great plan, He has a purpose for each one of his children to bring the plan to fruition. (Romans 8:28)

Power God has given us the His Holy Spirit who empowers us to fulfill our purpose to carry out His plan. His plan for us is to spread the Gospel.

As one class leaves, another group will be entering in September. I look forward with great anticipation to greeting the next incoming class

Willis C. Tomlin, President Baltimore School of The Bible

As I was sitting here writing this letter, it struck me that every time someone reads this letter or opens our catalogue, we are one second closer to the return of our Savior and King. As I wait for that time to come to pass, I do so with a heartfelt de-sire to teach and preach the Good News of Jesus Christ. “Even so, come, Lord Jesus.” Rev. 22:20

For the past 85 years The Baltimore School of the Bible (BSOTB) has always been in the ministry of teaching God’s Word along with ministering to new and mature believers. As the Dean of Education, I look forward to continuing this mis-

sion with care and guidance by the power of the Holy Spirit.

As a graduate of Baltimore School of the Bible, (class of 2008) I am honored to teach Christian Life and Personal Evangelism on Monday nights at the Park Ave. branch. Baltimore School of the Bible is not only a place to learn, but it is also a place to grow and serve.

It is with great joy each year that I am able to see how God moves an enthused group of believers from the seats of Baltimore School of the Bible to ministries in the local churches, to the mission fields, and even to the pulpits. Those vacant seats must now be replenished, and only the Master can fill them according to His plan.

We are living in terrible times, and many have strayed away because of a desire to please their fleshly appetites. We have taken the views of the world and allowed them to infiltrate our thinking and way of living, “wrong is right and right is wrong.” But I thank God that He “is not slack concerning His promise, as some men count slackness;” 2 Peter 3:9.

Every believer has been given the mandate to go and preach the gospel, which, by its own definition, means the “Good News” (Matthew 28:19-20). Our prayer is that God will continue to send students to the Baltimore School of the Bible who are willing to be used by Him.

I look forward to serving you this school year as we continue to learn and share and grow in GOD’s Word. The Christian walk is long, and I am delighted to share a part of this journey with you.

GOSPEL PLAN OF SALVATION FROM THE BIBLE:

1. ADMIT - “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.” Romans 3:23

2. BELIEVE - “Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;” I Corinthians 15:3 “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.” Romans 10:9

3. RECEIVE - “But as many as received Him, to them gave He power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on His name:” John 1:12

SINNER’S PRAYER

Dear Lord, I know I am a sinner and because of my sins I deserve death and punishment in Hell. I believe as the sinless Son of God you shed your precious Blood and gave your life so that my sins could be forgiven. You bodily arose from the dead and I now call upon your name, Lord Jesus, to save me from my sins. I invite you into my life and I trust in your finished work at Calvary alone to take me to our Father in Heaven. In Jesus’ Name I pray, AMEN.

God’s Word of Life:“My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge:because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will alsoreject thee,.....” Hosea 4:6

HISTORY OF THE SCHOOL Baltimore School of The Bible was organized in 1931, in response to the definite leading of the Lord. He gave evidence of the need for a school that would be fundamental in its teaching, evangelical in its beliefs, non-denominational in its scope, evangelistic in its purpose and missionary in its outlook—a school which would maintain a consistent relationship between the purity of doctrine taught and the purity of life admonished. The School is the outgrowth of the thinking, planning and praying of many Christians in the City of Baltimore. The first men to plan definitely for a non-denominational Bible School in Baltimore were Gustavus Ober, a business man who gave much of his time, strength and means to the Lord’s work in the Port Mission, a gospel center for seamen; Dr. A. C. Dixon, a retired Baptist minister; Dr. Paul C. Culley, a medical missionary on furlough from the Philippine Islands; Dr. Russell Bradley Jones, pastor of the Uni-versity Baptist Church; Dr. Arthur Forest Wells, pastor of the Northminster Presbyterian Church; Mr. A. S. Loizeaux, a business man of the city; and Dr. T. Roland Philips, pastor of the Arlington Presbyterian Church. The Fellowship of Bible Study, as it was originally known, held its first rally with Dr. Howard A. Kelly, of Baltimore, and Dr. Tom Lambie, of Ethiopia, as the speakers. The following Monday, November 9, 1931, the first class session was held in the University Baptist Church. The faculty was composed of Dr. Wells who taught Bible doctrine; Dr. Philips, who taught Book Analysis; Mr. Loizeaux, who taught Prophecy and Dispensa-tions; and Dr. Culley, who taught Missions, Bible Geography and Archaeol-ogy, and who assumed much of the responsibility for the administration. By Jan 1932, there were 177 persons registered as students and auditors. The work of the first year proceeded in a very satisfactory manner and there was every evidence of the blessing of the Spirit of God. The Northminster Presbyterian Church was the School’s home during the two following years, 1932-1934. In 1933, the State of Maryland granted a charter to the School, and the incorporators were Frank V. Coggins, Daniel H. Flynn, Douglas Ober, Austin F. Robinson and Harry C. Staley. Immediately these men organized by drawing up a constitution and by-laws. Psalm 119:89 and II Timothy 2:15 were selected as school mottoes, and a corporation seal was designed.

During the summer and early fall of 1942, the Lord directed in a building fund campaign that resulted in the purchase of the present building at 1712 Park Avenue. Through the faithful endeavors of the Board of Directors and other members of the building fund groups, we were able to buy our home. We now own this building, entirely free of debt. The location is easily accessible by transit service. The School property at 1712 Park Avenue consists of a large three-story brick building housing the School office, the Book Nook, the T. Roland Philips Library and the Alumni room. Immediately behind the main building is a large four story reinforced concrete building which houses four classrooms including the Howard A. Kelly Auditorium and the dining room. Since 1973, the School had operated a branch at 6601 Loch Raven Boulevard, the facilities having been made available through the kindness of Loch Hill Chapel. Because of significant growth at this location, this branch closed at the end of our ‘96-’97 school year. We are grateful for the 24 years of service provided to the Baltimore School of the Bible by Loch Hill Chapel. A new branch was established at Grace Fellowship Church, 9505 Deereco Road, beginning with the ‘97-’98 school year. In 2010, this Branch was moved to Central Presbyterian Church, 7308 York Road in Towson. In 1977, the Lord also blessed us to open a Branch at Brooklyn Bible Chapel at 502 Jack Street, Brooklyn, Maryland. “For God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labour of love, which ye have showed toward his name, in that ye have ministered to the saints, and do minister.” We praise the Lord for those saints who ministered at the School: with more than fifty (50) years of faithful service – N. D. Grasty, C. C. Grasty and Herman Wollenweber; for those who have ministered at the School for 40 years or longer – H. William Netzer and Thomas E. Hairston; for those who have ministered at the School for 30 years or longer – George Evans, Norman Cannon, Robert Freeman, Dario DiBattista, and John O. Jones; and for 20 years or longer – Edgar F. Reibetanz, May Hoover-Petzold, Gideon Steffey, Carl Sodergren, Andrew Gehrmann, Jr., Charles Held, Jr., Thomas Schetelich, Wayne Cockrell, Stanley Loizeaux, Ruth Johnston, Mildred LaPauze, John Valiquet, Ernest Flowers, Madeline Barnes, and Winifred Parks. During the School’s eighty-five (85) years, the Lord has faithfully met its every need. We are persuaded that He will continue to direct and provide as we seek His leading, and as we carry on in a manner which is pleasing and honoring to Him. Our expectation is solely from Him. Through these years, hundreds of students have learned how thrilling and informative the Bible can be when it is taught by qualified instructors who know and love the Book and its Author. Lives have been changed, enriched and our love for the Lord increased.

THE DOCTRINAL STATEMENT

To insure the doctrinal integrity of the School, each faculty member and each member of the Board of Directors is required to sign annually the following doctrinal statement:

I. We believe in the Scriptures of the Old and New Testament as verbally inspired of God, and inerrant in the original writings and that they are of supreme and final authority in faith and life.

II. We believe in one God, eternally existing in Three Persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

III. We believe that Jesus Christ was begotten by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary, and is true God and true man.

IV. We believe that man was created in the image of God, that he sinned and thereby incurred not only physical death but also spiritual death which is separation from God; and that all human beings are born with a sinful nature, and, in case of those who reach moral respon-sibility, become sinners in thought, word and deed.

V. We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, as a representative and substitutionary sacrifice; and that all who believe in Him are justified on the ground of His shed blood.

VI. We believe in the resurrection of the crucified body of our Lord, in His ascension into heaven, and in His present life there for us as High Priest and Advocate.

VII. We believe in “that blessed hope,” the personal, pre-millennial and imminent return of our Saviour and Lord Jesus Christ.

VIII. We believe that all who receive by faith the Lord Jesus Christ are “born again” of the Holy Spirit and thereby become children of God.

IX. We believe in the bodily resurrection of the just and the unjust, the everlasting blessedness of the saved, and the everlasting conscious punishment of the lost.

PURPOSE OF THE SCHOOLBaltimore School of The Bible, Inc. exists for the sole purpose of present-

ing the Word of God in such a manner that it may be readily understood, and that it will bring the students into a vital and effective relationship with our Lord Jesus Christ. The students will then prove to be a channel for the further spreading of the Word and the strengthening of the testimony of Bible-believing churches.

Comprehensive and systematic courses in Bible study are offered. As the Holy Spirit takes the things of Christ and reveals them to us, we can expect rich blessings.

In order to achieve the widest possible reach, the classes are open to all, including serious students who wish to complete their courses for credit and auditors who sit in on the lectures.

In these days of confusion and uncertainty, the student will find encourage-ment and comfort in the unchanging and authoritative Word of God.

COURSES AND CREDITS

Visitors are cordially invited to attend a class session. After the second visit, registration is required. For the greatest benefit, however, the School recommends enrollment as a regular student for credit, if at all possible. In order to receive credit for any course, the student is required to take the examinations that are given at the end of each semester and complete work required by the instructor. A credit, for each semester of each course, will be allowed only when a grade of 65 or more is earned for the course. In addition to these requirements, no student shall receive credit for any course in which the student has missed more than three class sessions per semester. Unless, at the discretion of the instructor, the student shall do make-up work for all hours missed (over three per semester) at the rate of 2 hours work for each class session missed. No credit will be given if a student has missed more than five class sessions in a semester, even if they have passed the examination and successfully completed all other course requirements. Attendance awards are given to students who have at least three classes on Monday, Tuesday, or both nights; attend all class sessions (excluding scheduled exam nights and final sessions); and attend the Commencement to receive the award.

GENERAL BIBLE CURRICULUM

This curriculum is designed to give the student a real working knowledge of the Word of God, thus to prepare for competent work in church or wherever our Lord may lead. Upon completion with 36 credits of the required classes, the student is awarded a Baltimore School of The Bible Diploma and Evangelical Training Association (ETA) Certificates.

INFORMATION FOR STUDENTS

The School is run on the honor system. Do your own work.

Students seeking ETA credits must read ETA books. See page 20 in catalog

While students are not expected to become classroom teachers, they will be exposed to the fundamentals of developing and implementing a successful lesson and lesson plan.

During the first semester students will review the basic concepts of understanding people and the various techniques for church education and leadership. GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS All prospective graduates must declare intent to graduate when they have obtained no less than 24 of the 36 required credits. This must be done by the end of September of the academic year in which the prospec-tive graduate intends to graduate. If the prospective graduate has less than 24 credits due to missing grades or grades less than 65, they need to contact the particular instructor regarding a grade correction. Students who are not enrolled during the Fall Semester must also adhere to the end of September deadline. All confirmed graduates must pay graduation fees by the last week of April.

Graduation Applications may be picked up at any time from the Registrar at the Park Avenue Main Office.

To graduate, each student must have:

1. Met all the admission requirements. 2. Taken the required classes: series 100, 200 & 300 and earned 36 credits. 3. Maintained a grade point of no less than 65. 4. Paid the appropriate graduation fees.

All library books must be returned prior to the last night of class.

FRUIT UNTO GOD’S GLORY One Thousand Seven Hundred Sixty One students have graduated from the school. In addition, thousands of others have attended for shorter periods. These trained workers are serving the Lord in many parts of the world, in their own churches, in widely varied avenues and areas of service. We are heartened by the high standards of fruitful service being rendered by alumni and former students at home and on many mission fields.

ALUMNI ASSOCIATION In 1938, the graduates of the School felt the need of a continuing fellowship after they had completed their courses of study. In response to this need, the Alumni Association was organized. Since its beginning the Association has held regular meetings and has sponsored a series of school and promotional programs. By its generous annual awards to new graduates, it has stimulated regular attendance and high scholastic attainment.
