In the old town, the University’s historic buildings, the Alfried Krupp Wissenschaftskolleg as well as the City Hall are all within easy walking distance from each other. Not far from the city centre, the new campus at Berthold-Beitz- Platz houses the University hospitals, the Leibniz Institute for Plasma Science and Technology, the BioTechnikum, the University library as well as a number of other institutes. Greifswald is innovative. One third of Greifswald’s inhabitants work in research, development and higher education. With an average age of 42.3 years, the population of the city of Greifswald is the youngest in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.
