Retrofits - Scope
Piping systems
•P&ID of ballast system
•Any related arrangements like ventilation, drainage etc.
Electrical systems
•Drawings of the MSB modification
•Updated electric load balance
•Updated electrical power single line diagram
•Selectivity evaluation of the largest new breakers introduced into the main switchboard vs. the generator breakers.
• It should be evaluated whether new short circuit calculations are found necessary
Control systems
•System block diagram
•Power supply arrangement
•List of controlled and monitored points
•Description of interface towards the ship’s existing systems
Structure and stability
•Depending on the ratio of the added weight to the ship’s light weight, new stability calculations may be required.
•Any reinforcements needed due to the added elements may be required to be approved.

New Buildings – Typical comments
• Ballast water must be treated before mixed with ejector
• Usually a challenge as ejector will loose effectStripping system
• Capacity must always exceed that of the ballast pump; or
• Flow control requiredCapacity
• Stripping system ok
• How much water upstream?Water remains
• Gravity discharge only ok when system treats one wayBypasses
• Separate treatment room
• Ventilation outletsSafety
