There are sweeping views across to extinct volcanos and sections traverse historic tracks cut for the Cobb & Co coaches over 150 years ago. North to Maryborough, 18kms Today is dotted with reminders of colonial times. As you ride along lanes lined with aging eucalypts look for crumbling dry- stone walls, bluestone cottage ruins, old shearing sheds and a cobblestone ford where the wagon wheels have cut deep ruts in the stone. From the ford, it’s ironbark forest all the way to town. South to Clunes, 25kms As sunlight breaks through the ironbark canopy you are offered expansive views across farming land to Mt Beckworth. Parts of today’s ride follows the old Cobb & Co route used to deliver supplies to homesteads and mining stations. Imagine steering a lurching coach, laden high with luggage while you nervously kept watch for bushrangers!
