Goddess here dwells inside a well ten feet below the gorund level.Temple is said to be existing from 15thcentury.She appears to be in sayanaroopam holding paanpathra in one hand and Abhaya mudra with other hand.Every year on first Tuesday of AAshaadam month her marriage celebration is done with a huge crowd reaching the temple.It is said that the present idol came to sight when people here are trying to dig a well for watering their paddy fields.A jet of water sprout out when idol was displaced.it became unctrollable and Idol was placed again as it is. Then onwards Goddessis being worshipped by keeping herself in the well.pacified Goddess then stopped the jet and people then onwards started worshippingin sayana form.The spring of water still ejects water which is collected and given to people as Mahaateertham. Therfore she iscalled as Jaladurga. Goddess often here compared to Bala tripura sundari so the place where she dwells called to be as Baalakamma peta which now came as Balkampeta. This year the marriage ceremony is declared to eb happening on 21st of Julytry to visit the temple on this special occassion and attain blessings of mother Godess Yellamma. Shri Mathre namaha.
