Michelle Balfoort of Balfoort Architecture highlighted the synergy between indoor and outdoor living in this Sewall’s Point, LEED-certified design. “I view exterior space as equally important and vibrant as the interior,” Balfoort says. Floor-to-ceiling sliding-glass walls offer a seamless transi-tion from interior to exterior, and clerestory windows draw the warm, tropical air up and out of the home. Interior parti-tions and doors are sparse to augment an open feel, while a few brightly colored walls as well as repetitive textures and patterns build a rhythm and add depth throughout the space. Oriented toward the southeast to capture the wind, the home’s “U” shape funnels the breeze off the river.
