Baisakhi Celebration“Wheat crop is ready for Harvest

Time to rejoice and feel niceAnd get joyous and celebrate life”.

Taking this as the base, littleKindergarteners celebratedBaisakhi in the schoolpremises with great vigor on13th of April 2016. Thepurpose was to make thestudents aware of thesignificance and relevance ofBaisakhi. It was also toenlighten the students at avery tender age about theirculture. Matching theirintellect, the kindergartenteachers put in best effortsto explain to them theimportance of this festival.

The little boys and girlsdressed in colorful Punjabiattire, performed bhangraand gidda to the rhythm ofthe dhol. Principal Sir wishedall the students a HappyBaisakhi. Our kindergartenersparticipated whole heartedlyin the celebration. This pieceof celebration acted as abuilding block in theirdevelopment.

Free Hand Drawing Competition:

Save the trees, save the Earth.We are the guardians of nature’s birth.

The theme Save Earth wasput on paper by the littlekindergarteners in the FreeHand Drawing Competitionheld at CambridgeInternational School,Phagwara on 29th of April2016. They were taught thatEarth is our Mother and weall have responsibilitiestowards it. This competition

served twofold purposes.The students learned howearth should be kept as aprecious asset. It was a stepforward in refining theirtalent of drawing. Thestudents learned whileenjoying. The teachers lentfull cooperation. WorthyPrincipal sir appreciated thelittle buds’ creativity.

Talent Hunt:

Every little child is born witha talent. In a school, alltalents are tested andrefined over time.Kindergarten is where thisprocess begins. Here InCambridge InternationalSchool, Phagwara too, TalentHunt Activity was organizedon 18TH of April 2016. Thelittle feet danced, the freshvoices sang, the artistichands painted and muchmore. It was anotherconfidence-building activity.

This activity was exclusivelyfor the newly admittedstudents for the purpose ofidentifying the inherenttalent in them too. Allperformances were worthapplauding .They showedtheir talent in such afantastic way. Principal Sircongratulated andappreciated theseperformers and encouragedthem to take keen interest inall the activities.

Orientation of Kindergarten

In Cambridge InternationalSchool, Phagwara,Orientation of kindergartenwas organized on 28th ofApril 2016. This was doneto facilitate the parentswith the methodologiesand workings of the school.The target was to makethem familiar with theinstitution as well. It beganwith Nursery, proceeded toKG 1 and concluded withKG 2.

The Coordinator along withall kindergarten teachersparticipated in the event.The queries of parentswere sorted and a promiseof full cooperation wasmade. This was done toassure them that theirward is in safe andpromising surroundings.Also, this would assureeasier learning for littlekindergartners.

Baisakhi Celebration

Cambridge InternationalSchool, Phagwara’s studentsdanced to the tunes ofBaisakhi festival on 13th April2016.The curtain raiser was athought and a topic on thetheme of Baisakhi. Two girlsrecited a poem entitled ‘Jattaaai Baisakhi’. There was agroup song by the schoolchoir. The soul of Baisakhi,Giddha and Bhangra, wasperformed by senior classes.Worthy Principal Mr. JorawarSingh addressed the childrenon the importance of thefestival and why this day isimportant in one’s life. Healso motivated children toparticipate more and more insuch activities in future. Hiswas an idea worth imbibingwhen he asked teachers totake

students to the fields toshow them the real corns ofwheat the farmers grow aftersuch hard work. The childrenshould not just read but seethe life from close.A perfect idea was to makethe students visualize ruralPunjab and its culturalheritage. This wasconcretized through themeans of tableaux thatshowed the sowing, plough,harvesting, winnowing andgathering of crop. Girlsadorned in cultural outfitslike phulkaris depictedindigenous aspects likeworking on ‘charkha’, singingfolk songs, etc. Apparently,the students of CambridgeInternational School,Phagwara left the venueenlightened and thrilled.

Earth Day22nd of April was special toschool and its students, theformer had a chance to spreadand the latter, to graspawareness about how to protectour precious earth fromdepletion. The occasion wasEarth Day which is a day,acceptable worldwide, to markthe cause.Cheerful students of CambridgeInternational School, Phagwara,celebrated Earth Day on 22nd

April, 2016 with a myriad ofeducational and fun activities. Itencompassed ways to spreadawareness to students of allintellects. The function wasplanned in a way that it shouldproceed from the known facts,clearing all the concepts andbasics about Earth Day and thentaking things to the facts stillunknown. For junior classes,there was a speech on the topicto acquaint them with the idea.It was succeeded by role playdepicting when and why EarthDay is celebrated. Light was shedon its origin and how it has

developed in the years gone by.Students’ understanding of EarthDay was reflected in theperformance on a song preparedby them. The students portrayedthe affecting like pollution, etc.and the affected like, land, air,water, soil and trees, etc.The deeply-engrossingdocumentary ‘Sorry-FutureGeneration’ moved the minds ofthe audience. It depicted theharms that humans are causingto mother earth. Its message wasto save earth and its resources sothat no future generation suffersdeprivation in any resource. Thepledge concluded thecelebration-of-awareness anddemanded commitment fromthe students to take care of themother earth. Principal of theschool added to the effect bytaking the pledge along with hisstudents. Students were alreadyawakened on the subject. Aformal concluding address by theprincipal added to it.

With the best of efforts byPrincipal Jorawar Singh,Cambridge InternationalSchool, Phagwara managedto work in association withPunarjyot, Phagwara, a socialorganization. The missionwas Akhaan daan-Mahaadaan (Eye donation is a greatdonation). Both theorganizations worked incollaboration to servehumanity with the best ofefforts. The studentsparticipated in eye check-upcamps and awarenessprograms. Their efforts wererewarded in the form ofmedals and certificates.

Principal Sir appreciated thishumility and advised them tonever leave a chance ofhelping mankind-in- need.State Coordinator ofPunarjyot, Mr. Ashok Mehraalso addressed the studentsand encouraged them to be apart of such social service.Punarjyot itself meansreceiving light again. Akshit Ohri: The Rising Star of Cambridge International School,

Akshit Ohri, a student of class Xbrought laurels to CambridgeInternational School, Phagwaraon getting selected in EllesmereCollege, United Kingdom forexcellence in his performancein Cricket. He has been thefourth in India and the only onein Punjab who has got thischance. To make this newspublic, a press conference wasorganized. This proud momentwas shared by the Chairman CISPhagwara- Mr. K.S. Bassi,Managing Director- Mr. K.S.Bains, Administrator- Mr.Amarjeet Singh and Principal-Mr. Jorawar Singh. They stoodas proud pillars of the school topresent Akshit Ohri and hisachievement at the pressconference. Akshit has beengiven a chance to play anational level tournament inEllesmere College. Akshit is

Achievement in the field of Cricket for Cambridge, Phagwara: beats Cambridge International School

(Co.ed), Jalandhar

In a Triangular Series ofCricket, the star players ofCIS Phagwara defeated CISCo.ed Jalandhar by 109 runs.This match was organized byCIS Phagwara itself. Choosingto bat first turned positivefor CIS Phagwara team whereit scored 234 runs in 20 overstaking 5 wickets. Theopposite team, on the otherhand, scored just 125 runsand took 8 wickets. It turnedout to be a big leap. PlayerYudhvir Singh did justice tohis name when he

proved to be an excellentbatsman making a score of101runs. Player AshpinderSingh also made 35 runs andtook 4 wickets. This matchwas followed by anotherTriangular Series withSehwag InternationalSchool’s team based atGurgaon. This win was ahappy moment for PrincipalJorawar Singh who showedthis by awarding a Token ofGratitude to the team. Theyreceived a warm welcome.

Another achievement in the field of Cricket for Cambridge, Phagwara: beats Sehwag International School

The immense talentexhibited by students inCricket field added one moredecorative badge of victoryto Cambridge InternationalSchool, Phagwara when itbeat Sehwag InternationalSchool, Gurgaon in TriangularSeries. The venue wasHarbhajan Singh Institute ofCricket. In this twenty oversmatch, CIS Phagwara scored134 runs with 6 wicketswhereas Sehwag schoollagged behind making a totalof just 116 runs. The flag ofvictory was swayed by ourschool team. ‘Man of theMatch’ of this TriangularSeries was awarded to playerYudhvir who had to his credita total of 264 runs in thewhole

series.Best Bowler was awarded toplayer Ritvik Kalia for taking 4wickets and 13 runs in 4overs. Players Ajay Sohalscored 80 and Keshav 50runs in 32 balls in the series.Ashpinder was yet anotherstar taking 6 wickets. Allthese excellent players madewinning possible and turnedthis into a hat trick win. Theybrought home a trophy andmedals. Principal Mr. JorawarSingh patted the team andgave blessings for a brightfuture. Both the teamsparted the venue in high,friendly spirits. For CISPhagwara it was a series ofwins in the game.

11 Medals in IAYP shine in CIS Phagwara’s treasure

The Duke of EdinburghAward, popularly known asInternational Award forYoung People (IAYP) wasstarted in 1956. The studentsaged 14 to 25, exhibit theirtalent at various levels basedon their ability for an all-round development. The fourcore areas are Service,Adventure Journey, Skills andPhysical Recreation. Based ontheir performance for 6, 12or 18 months, the award isset in three levels, bronze,silver and gold respectively.The motives behind thisprestigious award aremanifold. It helps indevelopment in areas ofservice, self, courage,behavior, talent andperformance. Students of

CIS Phagwara have alreadyachieved bronze and silvermedals and strive for thegold in near future. To test the students’ ability inMathematics, InternationalMath Olympiad was conductedin CIS, Phagwara. Thiscompetition is conducted everyyear the aegis of ScienceOlympiad Foundation(SOF).Through this the students findvent to their hidden talents andbecome more able to expressit. To inculcate self-confidencein them is yet another motiveof this competition. Hence, itbecomes necessary to carrysuch competitions for studentsso that they have a brightfuture.
