“Baimbridge College is a child safe school”
Here we are, almost at the business end of term 3. Our Year 12 cohort has six short
weeks left, for those undergoing exams they will be upon us before we know it so make
sure you make the most of the time you have left with your teachers for revision and
consolidating the learning you have done throughout the year.
The past three weeks have seen us trialling the NAPLAN for ACARA, thank you to the stu-
dents who assisted in sitting the test twice in one year, for parents information the trials
are undertaken to see whether the questions are acceptable for the following year and
to trial the system using computers.
Fourty students and five staff travelled through the night to spend three and a half days
skiing and living on the summit of Mt Hotham. All reports I have received were that the
students lived up to our reputation for being polite, courteous and friendly to the staff at
the venue. They all had a great time hitting the slopes on ski’s or snowboards and after a
morning lesson each day, they all improved dramatically. I would like to take this oppor-
tunity to extend a special thank you to Mr Roger Kennett who organises the trip each
year but this year was unable to attend due to a back injury. Thank you Roger and thank
you to the staff.
Sixteen students have enrolled in the
Industry Trade taster program and
held their induction day last week in
the HDSC. There is a large range of
industry areas offered, partnering with
WESTVIC to try something different to
possibly ignite a passion for a career
pathway. WESTVIC will assist with a
range of operational programs which
will include Career information, mock
interviews, evaluations and assistance
with work experience. The HDSC will offer the workspace, mentoring, passionate train-
ers from the business sector as well as all the equipment required to make this program
a success. This week I believe that the students are going to experience bricklaying, so
we will be getting a new wall somewhere on the campus.

Baimbridge College acknowledges and respects the traditional Gunditjmara custodians of the land.
Last week we said farewell to Mr John Sly, our Year 10 coordinator, who has moved to
Geelong to be with family. We wish him all the best in his new school at Werribee and
welcome Dr Morgan into the Coordinator role. Dr Morgan will be talking to each student
individually over the next few weeks. We also farewelled our Uni Placement student
teacher Madi Donehue who’s enthusiasm and positive attitude was infectious, thank you
for your contribution Madi.
Friday will be Lisa Kyle’s last day at Baimbridge after many years of excellent teaching,
many positions of responsibility and outstanding service to our students, staff and com-
munity. We wish Lisa the very best.
On Wednesday I had the pleasure of talking to a large number of families from the Year 8
and 9 cohort who attended the Year 9 / 10 information evening in the gym. I would like
to stress how important these events are to attend,
not only for families to make informed decisions
about our student’s futures, but to connect to our
community. This is what I witnessed on the infor-
mation evening and I applaud everyone for making
the effort to come out. I also hope that you got a lot
out of the evening without being bombarded with
information. Thank you to all of the staff present to
assist with parent enquiries and those responsible
for the organisation of the event.
I would like to congratulate the six students, Hilary Slocombe, Mitch
Downes, Jaz Hill, Ben Brodrick, Molly Hardy and Brock Sanders, selected
to attend the Snowy River Campus of the School for Student Leadership
(SSL) next term. You will have a life changing experience and I look for-
ward to hearing how you managed without your phones or wifi for a
whole 9 weeks. This is our 4th year of attending the SSL and we have just
heard last week that in 2019 six lucky students will be selected to attend
the China program where the students will spend 6 weeks in China in
Term 4.
I would like to welcome Mr Andrew Ellis to the Baimbridge team in the science depart-
ment, after a very swift appointment he has settled in well thanks to the support of the
staff and students alike, with special mention to Mrs Kyle for her work with him. We look
forward to learning a lot from Mr Ellis and benefitting from his input into our professional
learning community.
We also welcome Miss Jessica Turnbull into the Humanities area for Term 4, I have it on
very good authority that she is very well versed in her historical figures, as well as having
both a law and commerce degree. She is only with us until the end of the year but our
students will certainly gain much from her knowledge.
As always, I encourage anyone who has any form of feedback or questions or who just
want to call in for a general chat to do so.
Warwick Price.

Hats off to our Student Representative Council who held a
casual day to help fund the Drought Relief in NSW last week. The donations
received totalled more than $790 - what a fantastic effort from everyone!!!
A Real Community Effort
Thank you to the members of the SRC who organised the event and
cooked the bbq, Gilly for organising the bbq and a big thanks to our
friend Grotti Lotti whose office lady kindly donated three prints for us
to auction on the day.
At the start of this school year, Baimbridge College was fortunate to be selected by the Department of Education and Training (DET) to participate in a key school improvement initiative, part of a suite of initiatives to be implemented from 2017-2021. These form part of a significant DET commitment to more than 160 Victorian schools this year, providing additional human and financial resources to schools to intensify their improvement efforts.
With a strong focus on working in collaboration with schools to share innovation and apply best practice from across Victorian schools, the initiatives support our school to continue to improve student learning outcomes with a focus on building learning confidence and opportunities for success for all students.
Informed by learning from international improvement efforts, in particular Ontario and London, participating schools were selected by regions to be at the forefront of this new and exciting work. Schools chosen for the initiatives demonstrated that they had the foundations in place to gain the most from a new school improvement opportunity. Many schools have expressed interest in receiving this level of support in future years. The initiatives provide an exciting opportunity for our staff to work in partnership with others on evidenced based, supported, school improvement practices.
We look forward to sharing the development and impact of this work with you later in the school year.
Sport in Schools Baimbridge College were excited last week to receive a large shipment of sports gear and gratefully thank local people for their support of the recent Coles voucher program for sports gear. Pictured are School Principal Mr Warwick Price and students Eli Crutch, Cody Holmes, Abbey Phillips and Georgia Shepherd proudly displaying some of the new balls and sports gear the School PE/sport program and lunchtime activities programs will benefit from.
Head of PE Jayne Cogger and Head of Sport Jen McArthur were both also excited and wanted to pass on their thanks to the local community for thinking of Baimbridge whilst this voucher deal was in place. The school is a recipient of many local business supporters and also participates in the Woolworths Earn and Learn program each year for books and stationery.
Mr John Hill Assistant Principal said he was always proud of the contributions to the community many of the students make in terms of local agencies such as Legacy, RSL and Standing Tall. He is thankful for the program as it provides an easy way to get some gear you otherwise wouldn’t.
Noorat Shoot
Well done to all Shooters on the day who were a credit to the school. You all
showed great sportsmanship, pride in your school and respect. Thank you for
being a tremendous team. A massive thank you to those parents and friends who
came to Noorat and supported our students (and teacher who was very nervous
about her first solo excursion!)
\ < A huge Congratulations must also go to Gemma Hill who had a fantastic day!
Shooting a 9 in the first round, placing her in the top shooters for the day. She
then confidently backed this up with a 9 in the second round to score an overall
18/20 for the day. With this score, Gemma placed second in Senior Girls meaning
she will now compete in State Competition on the 3rd of September in Echuca.
We wish Gemma all the best, and look forward to hearing how she goes.
Miss Rachel Munro
On the 23rd of August the Baimbridge shooting team headed down to Noorat for a school shoot. I had thought,
based on previous experience that the weather would be quite poor to instead be greeted with sunshine! It was a
great surprise, which gave us all hope for the weather to stay
pleasant. All of roughly 300 shooters had handed their guns in and
Baimbridge was first up to shoot in squads of 5 but we had a little
set back due to our bus being a little late. Overall all students shot
well and had a great day.
I would like to say a huge thank you to Miss Adams and Mrs Mac
for organising the day, to Miss Munro for driving the bus of mostly
boys, a huge thank you to all of the parents involved, especially
Michael Smyth for being the gun transporter for the day and to the
Noorat gun club and sponsors for holding this event.
Gemma Hill

Miss Munro’s Maths Message!
Happy End of Week 7! It feels like we only just came back from holidays,
but here we are heading into the pointy end of Term 3 already. There has
been a lot on, and still a lot to go before we farewell the Term.
So what have we been up to??
Year 7 and 8
Our coding Assignments are now either done, or soon to be done! The students have done a FANTASTIC job of
creating some real works of art (or finding out just what Python might be capable of) Everyone has shown persis-
tence and determination in: finding code, writing code, changing code, fixing code, and so much more! There have
been excellent displays of team work, collaboration and creativity. Keep an eye on compass for feedback on these
assignments. Moving into the next three weeks, we continue with coding, looking further into the diverse range of
things that we can do with coding outside of geometry!
Year 9 and 10
We have had our creativity in over-drive
the last few weeks as we kicked off our
assignments! Would you believe the places
that you use rates and ratios!? Or how
many different ways you use maths in
everyday life!? Our current term project is
all about the students finding out about
where we see or use rates and ratios and
showing us what they know and how they
can apply their skills. It has meant a fun,
hectic, and interesting time in classroom.
We have projects ranging from revision
quizzes on Kahoot being made, baking and
scaling up and down recipes, enlargement
of pictures, scale models of basketball
courts, origami, sewing, buildings, all the
way to gears, drench mixes and stocking
rates. It really is good to be able to use our
skills with something we enjoy or are
passionate about.
By Makayla (7D)
By Ben (7B)
A reminder: Parents and students are asked not to bring take away food to
school for students at lunchtimes. We have also had instances where parents or
guardians are collecting students to take them to get lunch on Wednesdays with-
out a pass. This is not acceptable as we have a duty of care to know where all of
our students are at all times. It is never ok to take your or someone else’s child
from school without a pass from the school.
We’ve even had the ‘old school’ over-head projector out! (Thank
you to Mr O’Brien for finding a new globe to keep up in business
as well!!!!) It’s been fun to show the students what used to be in the classroom –
and let them experiment with how the machine works.
The year 9/10’s will still have a Maths Pathway
test next week as well – so they will be VERY
BUSY! But we are sure they are up to the task.
I’ll sign off with a joke this week – Enjoy After a talking sheepdog gets all the sheep in the pen, he reports back to the farmer: “All 40 account-ed for.” “But I only have 36 sheep,” says the farmer. “I know,” says the sheepdog. “But I rounded them up.”

Subject Selections Thank you to all 10 and 11 students who have entered your subject selections
online (with your parents of course) , it is vital that you do so by the deadlines
issued so that the school can begin planning the entire workforce structuring for
next year. We have a team of people working together to assist students in
selections, then Miss Taylor starts the very demanding task of creating a timetable
that suits the most people across the board.
To the year 8’s and 9’s who will be entering yours next week, please remember to
enter your choices in your preference order from the very first subject, it’s
important. Remember we are here to help if you require it.
If you are able to spare some time to help out in the canteen it is always very much appreciated. We understand
that most families are very busy, however, when the workload is shared it is always so much easier for everyone.
