1.1Photosynthesis:
Q1: The chemical process by which plants prepare their own food using sunlight.
Q2: carbon dioxide +water glucose + oxygen.
Q3: chloroplast contain pigment called chlorophyll which absorbs suns energy.
Q4: We can test for starch by boiling plant leaf and then putting iodine solution. If
it changes colour then starch is present.
Q5: plant cell diagram given on page 12 of your book.
1.2: Role of mineral salts in plants:
Q1: Fertilizers are mineral salts added to the plants that affect the plant growth,
makes them healthy and grow larger.
Q2: Nitrates: Help to make proteins, these are nutrients needed for making new
cells. Nitrate is needed to make chlorophyll.
Magnesium: Helps in making chlorophyll. leaves get yellow.
1.3: Plants and water.
Q1: When plants are not watered properly they wilt. This is because of something
called turgor, which is water pressure inside the cells that make up the plant's
skeleton. Water enters a plant through its stem and travels up to its leaves. When a
plant is properly hydrated, there is enough water pressure to make the leaves strong
and sturdy; when a plant doesn't get enough water, the pressure inside the stems and
leaves drops and they wilt.
Q2:Water helps to cool plants by process of transpiration, evaporation of water
from plant surface.

1.6:Fertilisation:
Q1:fertilization: union of male and female gametes.
Zygote: A zygote is the union of the sperm cell and the egg cell. Also known as a
fertilized ovum, the zygote begins as a single cell but divides rapidly in the days
following fertilization.
Embryo: After this two-week period of cell division, the zygote eventually
becomes an embryo.
Seed: Seed is a small embryonic plant enclosed in a covering called the seed coat,
usually with some stored food.
1.7:Fruits:
Q1: Seed dispersal is the movement, spread or transport of seeds away from the
parent plant.
Q2: Flowering plants reproduce themselves by producing seeds. The seeds also
provide the plants with a way to spread out and grow in new places, sometimes a
long way from the parent. This is important because if the seeds are not dispersed,
many germinating seedlings will grow very close to the parent plant.
Q3: Label the following fruits and vegetables as if they are plant seed,
