DOCTORSDoctors, also called physicians, have an effect on everyones life. They treat people when they are sick or hurt. They give advice to patients to help keep them from getting sick. They bandage knees, prescribe medicine, sew up cuts, and operate on bones. They bring new babies into the world and comfort older people who are sick or dying. Some doctors see all kinds of patients, and other doctors only see patients with a particular illness or injury. There are even doctors who never see patients at all. In the United States alone, there are over a half-million doctors. They all do different things, and they are all important in their own way.

POLICE OFFICERPolice officers work in partnership with the communities they serve to maintain law and order, protect members of the public and their property, prevent crime, reduce the fear of crime and improve the quality of life for all citizens. Theyuse a wide range of technology to protect individuals, identify the perpetrators of crime and ensure successful prosecutions against those who break the law.Key priorities for the 45 police forces in the UKinclude maintaining public order through combating organised crime, countering the threat of terrorism, and acting against antisocial behaviour.Police officers work closely with members of the criminal justice system, social workers, schools, local businesses, health trusts, housing authorities, town planners and community groups to provide advice, education and assistance to those who want to reduce crime orhave been affected by crime.

PILOT

A pilot is responsible for safely flying passengers to and from national or international destinations on commercial or private aeroplanes. A large commercial aircraft is usually operated by three or more pilots at any one time, with the captain known as the pilot-in-command. The job requires a patient and an even temperament to deal with the high level of responsibility. Airline pilots are expected to be well-dressed and to present themselves in a professional manner. The day-to-day tasks of a pilot include: checking that information about flight plans and routes is correct, relaying information to passengers, checking safety systems and estimating the amount of fuel that will be used on a particular flightThe industry is very competitive and employers look for candidates with a good educational background such as a degree or an HND. Entry into the profession can be sought through the Armed Forces, a scholarship as a trainee commercial pilot or through obtaining a Private Pilots License and studying further to Commercial Pilots License level.Typically, pilots are paid around 62,000 per year in the UK.CHEF Handling the preparation of food or meals is the responsibility of a Chef. These professionals may be in charge of several or dozens of workers such as waiters, cooks, washers and other service staff. They are sometimes referred to as kitchen managers, executive chefs or 'maitre de cuisine'. Chefs are usually promoted from lower positions, namely trainee chef, or kitchen assistant. There are several types of chefs. They include Commis Chef, Section Chef, Sous Chef, Head Chef and Executive Head Chef. The higher your position, the more you are paid and the more responsibilities you have. Work hours are demanding, as Chefs may start very early and be the last ones to leave in the nights. As the holidays and public holidays are their most hectic times, they are expected to work then too. Chefs do not just work in restaurant or hotels. They work in any setting or industry that requires them to prepare food for people. This includes hospitals, canteens, schools, offices, universities, or bars. Some may specialise in the preparation of vegetables, desserts, pastry, sauces, sea food or other meals. A Chef usually performs many of the following tasks: Preparing meals * Managing kitchen budget Training staff * Enforcing health and safety regulations Ordering supplies * Preserving food quality Planning menus * Recruiting new staff
