Youth Club needs Volunteers At an Extraordinary General meeting of the Badwell
Ash Youth Club (BAYC) on 8th
May, the current
chair, treasurer and secretary said they needed to
resign for personal reasons, and the posts are open for
new committee members to take up the reins.
The BAYC was set up in 2007
after local young people asked
the Community Forum to
provide them with something
interesting to do in the village.
Up to forty 9-15 year olds attend
on Wednesday nights.
With the Forum’s help, the club
received grants enabling it to
fund adult supervisors, and buy equipment ranging from
pool tables to a Wii games console. The weekly
Wednesday evening meetings are often themed, with
events ranging from sports and food tasting evenings to
quizzes and film nights.
The current committee have been in post since the
club’s inception, and after five years need to pass the
baton onto new blood.
If you are interested in becoming involved with the
BAYC please contact Lynn Smith (259306) or Ashley
Simpson (259909).

Church News
Work that is almost complete on the boundary wall on
the north side of the church. David Smith is doing a
beautiful job restoring the wall which has withstood
surprisingly well the removal of the ivy and bramble.
We will shortly have a new church noticeboard by the
school-end entrance, thanks to Nick Pearce. Angela Brookes, Church Warden

Parish Council Report The parish council met on Monday 5
th. March. All members of the
council attended, also present were County Cllr. Jane Storey and
District Cllr. Mr. Roy Barker, who reported on behalf of SCC and
MSDC respectively. There were also 10 members of the public
present.
Traffic, parking, pedestrians on Back Lane During the part of
the meeting open to members of the public, the council heard many
comments and complaints which, although not directly appropriate
to them, the council would try to get the relevant authority to
address them. The main concern, however, was the state of Back
Lane. Due to increased amount of development along Back Lane
traffic flow is very high for such a narrow lane and many drivers
drive at a speed inappropriate to the road conditions. Many
children use the lane and the combination of traffic flow, speed,
poor road surface and cars parking on what little footways are
available make it very dangerous, and young and old pedestrians
are being put at risk. As commented in the last issue, if these
problems are continually being ignored by local residents, steps
will have to be taken address them by law.
New playground? Mrss. Flack and Kelly are applying for grants
for the proposed play equipment to be erected on the recreation
ground behind, but not part of, the school. The parish council has
given their backing, in principal to the scheme and would take of
the maintenance and running cost of the equipment if and when the
scheme is complete as well as assisting in grant applications and
financial control.
Job available The street sweeper job is still currently available, but
due to insurance restrictions, the council cannot accept applications
from persons under 17 years old. Mr. Kenny Kelly, 1 Back Lane
has agreed to take on the role as the new village hall booking clerk
and key holder. All enquiries to 01359 259978.
Planning Only one planning issue was discussed. The council did
not oppose the amended plans submitted at Mill Cottage, Hunston
Road.
Annual Meeting and Next Parish Meeting The Annual Parish
meeting will be held on Monday 28th
. May, in the village hall,
starting at 7:00pm. This is your opportunity to hear what has been
happening to your village over the year and give your views and
comments.
The next parish council meeting will be held on Monday 28th
.
May, 2012, in Great Ashfield’s Lord Thurlow Hall, starting
immediately after the annual parish meeting. As usual, all
members of the public are invited to attend and an opportunity will

The Village website is moving from http://www.onesuffolk.co.uk/BadwellAshCommunityForum to www.badwellash.onesuffolk.net/
Updated website for Badwell Ash
Badwell Ash’s award-winning website within the
onesuffolk community is moving and updating.
onesuffolk is a pioneering website host that was
created by a partnership of all the local authorities in
Suffolk, and the Police. onesuffolk provides free
websites to local councils and community groups in
Suffolk – with groups ranging from camera clubs to
schools. onesuffolk is dedicated to supporting the
people of Suffolk, enabling parish councils,
community and voluntary organisations to participate
by contributing information about their particular area.
It also provides a very popular “What's On” listing as
well as news and on-line local problem reporting.
Set up by the Badwell Ash Community Forum in
2007, our pages include facts about the amenities and
history of the village, as well as useful information
and contact numbers for local services, and a What’s
On page. It shares an email address with the
Broadsheet - [email protected]. The site has
been contacted by people from as far away as
America, and has provided information to enquirers
about anything from Badwell’s gravestones to its
gardens.
The onesuffolk project is moving to a new web network
with better facilities, and all participants are having to
move their information onto the new site. The new
Badwell Ash site should be up and running very soon.
If you have anything – a business or a group, news or a
bit of history - you would like included (free of charge)
on the site, please use the Broadsheet contact details
below. Our new address will be www.badwellash.onesuffolk.net/
Volunteer Distributors Wanted Volunteers wanted to distribute Broadsheets in the
village. Current volunteers deliver anything from 13 to
80 copies through letterboxes, so any help would be
gratefully accepted. The more volunteers, the less time
it takes for everyone. A big thank you to all Broadsheet
volunteers, many of whom have been distributing the
paper since its inception. Sarah Brown, Editor
