• Write a short paper on the company including it’s mission, it’s purpose, and what it did to motivate the employees

• Cite your work.

• Time Magazine

• Journal of Management

• Wall Street Journal

Which of the above is a scholarly publication and what does that even mean?

Journal of Management

• Articles are based on a hypothesis (idea) that the author(s) will seek to prove or disprove through research.

• Tests and research can be duplicated by others to prove its validity

• Articles and their research are tested by other researchers before publication.

• Not necessarily current events

Primary Source?

• A scholarly article is NOT a primary source.

• A primary source is usually something like a newspaper or a magazine. It is an article that is essentially a first hand account of “what happened”.

• New York Times - Newspaper

• Wall Street Journal - Newspaper

• Business Week - Magazine

• The Economist – Magazine

Trade Publications?

• Trade as in Industry, not trading spaces.

• Current topics and news that impact specific industries. These are not scholarly articles, they are like newspapers that only a person involved in the industry would care to read.

• Pick a PUBLIC company – they have to provide information to the public.

• Don’t have any names? Don’t know if it’s public or private? – Do you have an industry in mind?

• Airlines? Coffee? Cars? Computers?
