Withdrawing from LISD
If you currently have a district issued iPad and will be withdrawing from LISD (graduate, move, etc.), you
must return the district issued iPad and accessories. Please backup your data prior to withdrawing from
LISD. It is recommended that you perform a backup of the content before you leave the district so that
critical data is not lost. Access to your @go.lisd.net account will NOT be available once you have
withdrawn from LISD. You can then save your backup content in a personal account and later restore it to
another device.
Backing up your files
1) Remove old data or apps that are no longer used or needed.
2) Click on Settings >> [Your Name] >> iCloud >> Manage Storage and see which apps or data take up
the most space. You can remove the apps from this screen or from the iPad home screen.

Select a backup method
You must first have a location to save your backup file(s). The backup files can be saved to a local personal computer or downloaded to the computer and saved to an
external source. A few sources are listed below.
There are multiple options to backup/download your data and not all will be mentioned in this document.
Dropbox – backup photos, videos, and notes (option may not be available in all apps)
Microsoft OneDrive – backup photos, videos, and notes (option may not be available in all apps)
Google Drive – backup photos, videos, and notes (option may not be available in all apps)
Google Drive is a popular option; LISD students have unlimited space in their @go.lisd.net
account (keep in mind personal Google Drive accounts only come with 15GB of free space).
Use the share button to save your photos, videos, or notes to
Google Drive (this process will be similar for Dropbox and
OneDrive for the note taking or photo sharing apps that have the
feature).
Google Takeout – backup bookmarks, calendar, gmail contacts, google drive, google sites,
classroom, mail, tasks, photos, videos. (Files are added to a single downloadable .zip file).
iTunes - completely backup all data and apps
iCloud – backup of data and apps for restore only. Photos can be stored in iCloud Photo Library and
accessed with another Apple product. Some apps are designed to back up to iCloud. If an app is
configured to use iCloud, data may be retrievable if you need to restore an iPad. The data that can
be retrieved via iCloud depends on how the app developer designed the process. Remember that
space is limited to 5GB for free. Beyond that, Apple provides monthly storage pricing.
Google Transfer - Copy and transfer emails and Google Drive files to another google account.
Note: LISD has disabled the ability to restore from an iCloud or iTunes back up on District iPads
to prevent the possibility of them being configured (restored) without LISD requirements. Restoring
to personal iPads will work.

Google Takeout
1) If you have files on your iPad that you want to include in the
.zip archive file, you must first move them to your Google
drive folder.
2) Open the Google Drive App on the iPad.
3) Create a folder in Google Drive for your ipad files.
a) Example: To create a folder for your pictures, click the “+”
in the bottom of the window, then click the “Folder” icon and
name it “Pictures”.
b) You can then upload your pictures to this new folder.
Upload Pictures/Videos
4) To upload the pictures into the new folder, click on the folder then
click the “+” sign in the bottom right of the window.
5) Click the upload icon and select “Photos and Videos” link. Click “OK” to allow Drive to access your photos. Select “All Photos” or other album that contains the pictures.
6) Click each video or photo you want to back up (it will be
marked with a blue checkmark as shown below).
7) Click the Upload link. The selected files will be uploaded to
your Google Drive and accessible from any internet connection
on your computer or other smart device.

Create the .zip archive file
The next step is to combine all selected files into 1 zip
file. Google Takeout will send it via email. You can
then save the file to any computer or usb drive (not an
iPad). The files can then be opened from any computer
or uploaded to another google account.
1) Go to (https://www.google.com/settings/takeout)
and log in with your Google credentials.
2) The items listed in the window that appears are
those you will be able to include in the .zip file.
By default, all items are selected.
3) Deselect any items you don’t need to backup (most
students select to backup Drive and Mail at minimum).
4) Click next.
5) Leave all settings as the default settings and click
the Create Archive button. It will take a while for
the folder to be zipped.
6) A window will open that provides the size of the file
and the date created.
7) When the file has completely zipped, you will have
a Download button available. You must be on a
personal computer to utilize that download
button, otherwise wait until you are on your
personal computer and download from the email
that will be sent to you.
8) An email will be sent to your school gmail
account from “Google Download Your Data”
with the subject of “Your Google data archive is
ready.”
9) Access the email listed in the previous step from
the personal computer where you plan to save
your backup.
10) Click the link in the email to download your archived backup.

Transfer ownership of your Google Site
To be able to access the data you have stored on your LISD Google Site, you can transfer
ownership to your private Gmail account. If you do not have a free Gmail email account, go to the
Gmail home page, click on “Create an account” and follow the instructions to create a new email
account. Once you have a valid Gmail account, you may use that address to change ownership of
your current District Google Site documents.
To Change Ownership
1) Go to your Google Sites webpage.
2) Click on Settings Icon >> Sharing and Permissions
3) Add personal Gmail Account to the “Invite people” box.
4) Check the Box to Notify People
5) Click Send (A message will appear that you are sharing with someone who is not in the G Suite
organization.)
6) Click Yes
7) Click the edit pencil icon next to the personal gmail account that is now added.
8) Choose “Is Owner” to make the personal gmail the new owner of the site.
9) Click Save Changes.
iCloud Backup
1) Connect to a Wi-Fi network and Sign
in to your ipad in Settings if you
haven’t already.
2) Click on Settings >> [Your Name] >> iCloud.
3) Select the apps that you want to be backed up from the
list.
4) Make sure the icloud backup option
is turned on and tap that button.
5) Click Back Up Now to begin the
backup.
You can then restore this backup to a
personal Apple mobile device.

Google Transfer
Google Transfer allows you to send your LISD google email and google drive contents to a personal google
account. This is a great option for graduating students who want to keep all their LISD google emails as it
keeps the emails intact within the gmail email system and merely transfers them over to a new account. If
you only need an archive copy of the emails, Google Takeout would be the better option.
If you have a lot of junk emails in your LISD google account, it is best to delete those first before running
this tool so your personal gmail account won’t be filled up with all the junk emails. However, you can
always delete them from the personal account as well.
1) Login to your LISD google account.
2) Click on your account profile picture in upper right
corner of window.
3) Choose My Account.
4) In the box labeled ‘Personal info & privacy’, click on
Control Your Content.
5) In the ‘Transfer your content’ box, click on Start Transfer.
6) Enter your personal gmail address in the email address
field.
7) Click on Send Code. An email will be sent to your
personal gmail account. In the email, click the link to get a
confirmation code.

8) Enter the code given.
9) Click Verify.
10) Select Drive and/or Gmail to transfer to
personal google account.
11) Click Start Transfer. (Note: Personal Google
Drive accounts only come with 15GB storage
for free. If your LISD google drive is larger
than 15GB, you must either delete some files,
purchase more google storage or backup your
google drive using a different method.)
12) You will receive an email in your personal gmail account letting you know when the transfer is
complete. It can take up to a week if there is a lot of content to transfer.

Before turning in your iPad
Remove your personal information before turning in your device. Sign out of iCloud and then erase the
content on your ipad. Do not manually delete your contacts, calendars, reminders, documents, photo streams,
or any other iCloud data while you're signed in to iCloud with your Apple ID. By doing so, you will delete
your content from the iCloud servers and any of your devices signed in to iCloud.
Follow these steps:
1) Back up your iOS device (see previous instructions)
2) Tap Settings > [Your Name].
3) Scroll down on right side navigation pane and tap Sign Out.
4) Enter your Apple ID Password and tap Turn Off.
5) Click Sign Out again.
6) Go back to Settings and tap General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings.
7) If asked for your device passcode or Restrictions passcode, enter it. Then tap Erase [device].
8) Turn in your iPad as instructed.
