• Otto von Guericke was a German scientist,

inventor, and politician. His major scientific achievement was the establishment of the physics of vacuums.

• Once he joined two copper hemispheres of 51 cm diameter and pumped the air out of the enclosure. Then he harnessed a team of eight horses to each hemisphere and showed that they were not able to separate the hemispheres. When air was again let into the enclosure, they were easily separated.

• Christopher Standish’s father, was the cabin boy on Christopher Columbus's ship Santa María when he sailed to the Americas.

• In 1536, when Christopher was 20 years old, he was a part of what was supposed to be the last voyage of his father. On February 17, the ship was attacked by pirates of the Singh Brotherhood in a bay on the coast of Bengalla.

• The last thing Christopher saw before he fell unconscious and fell to the sea was his father being murdered by the leader of the pirates. Both ships exploded, making Christopher the sole survivor of the attack
