1. Vertebra/Vertebrae- The small bones which make up the backbone are called Vertebrae. There are 33 vertebrae in the backbone. Top 7 vertebrae are situated in our neck.
2. Cartilage Discs- Between each vertebra, there are discs of cartilage. They help the backbone to bend easily.

Functions of the Backbone1. Provides main support to the body.2. Supports the head at its top.3. Attaches shoulder bones, ribs and hipbone.4. Protects the spinal cord.5. Keeps body erect.
