#6 D’Amico/D’Amico - 2.5 vs #3 Nucci/Gooldy - .5

With partner Vinny still away, Eric played better, but it wasn’t good enough as Team D’Amico soundly beat him 2.5 to .5. The winners would win 3 of the first 5 holes for a narrow lead. The overall net score at that point was 53 - 55. The match continued with much of the same except for a nice birdie on #9 by Eric. The final outcome was close. Eric plans on renegotiating Vinny’s vacation time for next year.

#12 Bunal/Hamlin - 2 vs # 15 Hubble/Clarke - #1

Chris Bunal and Dave Hamlin would both have a good day in beating the Hubble/Clarke Duo 2-1. The winners held a slim lead after 5 holes., 2-1-2. They would go 2-1-1 over the last 4 holes.James Clark would have a bad day in shooting a 46. Chris Hubble would have a decent day in shooting a 40. The loss by the rookies derails their good play in recent weeks.

#8 Girmonde/Palmer - 2 vs #1 Hickel/Wallace - 1

Dave Girmonde, Jr would birdie holes 1,7 and 9 in leading his team to a narrow 2-1 victory. The match was all square after 5 holes, 2-2-1. Dave Jr and Joe Palmer would would go 2-1-1 over the last 4 holes to win this tight match. In addition to Girmonde’s 3 birdies, Rich Hickel had 2 birdies on holes 6 and 9.

#14 Logue/Cahill - 2 vs #11 Zegarelli/Berge - 1

This was a close match. Birdies everywhere. Ziggy had a couple of birdies, holes 2 and 5, Shane had a birdie on #4

and Pete Logue birdied #8. Ziggy and Shane enjoyed a 3-1-1 lead after 5 holes. Pete and Russ would both shoot 16 on the last 4 holes to beat Ziggy and Shane by 6 strokes. They would go 2-0-2 on those 4 holes. And end up 3-3-3 for the match. So, the winners would squeak out a 2-1 victory.

#9 Grabinski/Welch - 2 vs #16 Wojotowycz/Heintz - 1

With the putting woes that Gary Grabinski has suffered with this year, Gary would birdie holes 2,7 and 8. Was this a turning point for Gary? Did he find something in his putting? Only time will tell. He did need all of those birdies as his partner took a flyer and played horribly. They played a game rookie tandem of Jarett Wojtowycz and Nick Heintz. The match had the winners ahead 3-2-0 after 5 holes. The last 4 holes did not change for the winners as they went 4-0 to end this match 7-2-0. Again, it doesn’t matter.

#2 Niemers/Banas - 1.5 vs #5 Lubey/Blunt - 1.5

This is the feature match of the week, 2 evenly matched teams and friends to boot. Don and Time would enjoy a 3-2 lead after 5 holes. Lance and Bill would go 2-0-2 the last 4 holes to take a 4-3-2 victory. To translate in how we score these things, the match was halved 1.5 to 1.5 as Team 2 shot a net 74 as Team 5. You see winning holes doesn’t mean squat as we like to say. Three more birdies here. Don Niemers birdied #1. Lance Lubey birdied the very hard #2 and Bill Blunt birdied #7.

#13 Sadallah/Tripp - 2.5 vs #10 Girmonde/Girmonde -.5

While these youngsters won the league their first year in the league, they were not very good golfers. Jump ahead 2-3 years and they have improved to a point of playing better on a regular basis. They are better, not great mind you, but very game. They beat Team Girmonde 2.5 to .5. I’m not going to score this by holes as it’s just plain dumb for this match. Johnnie Quest and his partner played a better match than their opponents. The loss will drop the losers from the top rung in the standings.

One week before the half way point and there are many of you that need to pay your dues. See Gary or me to settle up…Seven Oaks will not have us back for our Final Outing. I’m not sure what the reason was, but Mark Kotar y ’s name came up se vera l t imes in the conversation. We are down to one course, maybe another one that we have to decide on. We’ll let you know when it becomes more real…Lots of birdies this year. You guys are going crazy out there. The pots are big, at least $125.00 weekly. Good job men…The guys are lining up to play Gary Grabinski. Since he lost his putting stroke, he has become miserable and is working on putter 7 or 8, there has been so many, does it really matter?…Until next week…
