Objective:
The study of Sanskrit will give students the opportunity to better understand the relationship of
all languages, to delve deep into the history of Indo-European languages, to explore the
ancestral language of most of the languages of South Asia, and to appreciate the development
of a language that is over 3,000 years old. This will provide the students with the opportunity to
study the language, literature and cultures of South Asia and related civilizations within the
framework of philosophical traditions, aesthetic and artistic traditions, as well as traditions of
moral and social thought. This course is endowed with the grammar of Sanskrit and focus on
developing a vocabulary necessary for understanding the most rudimentary of the vast
collection of texts in Sanskrit, which store the cultural memory of several millennia of South
Asian society.
The curricular structure and the course description for the first year has already been approved
in the 18th
BOS.
Input Qualification:
Candidate should have passed 10+2 from a recognized Board with proficiency in English.
Evaluation Procedure:
All Rules and Regulations as provided in the Ordinances and Regulations of Undergraduate
Programme shall be followed.
