BACHELOR’S DEGREE IN HISTORYThe Bachelor of Art and Bachelor of Science degrees in history offer students the chance to study the past, live the present, and prepare for the future. History is the foundation of almost all academic disciplines. It offers students the chance to develop critical thinking abilities through reading, writing, research, and analysis.
Students have a variety of areas and topics of study from which to choose, including US history, Latin American history, European history, world history, military history, African American history, and more.
Most history majors pursue careers in teaching, museum studies, and records management; the career possibilities are varied, though, with some working in medicine, law, governmental agencies, and business. Program graduates have become teachers, professors, lawyers, consultants, and museum directors, and others have pursued advanced degrees.
REQUIREMENTSStudents wishing to pursue a degree in history have the choice of either a Bachelor of Arts (BA) or a Bachelor of Science (BS).
Minor: The BA requires four semesters of a single foreign language and a minor. The BS requires courses in biology, chemistry, and physics in place of a minor.
