QTTESTION I
Trips athacted to commercial centers (CBD : Central Business District) are normallyinfluenced by the characteristics of the destination zone. What are the typical characteristics
of the zone, for example a shopping center?
(20 marks)
QrrEsTroN 2
Two tip producing zones (residential areas, described as zones 1 and 2) each produces 600
and 400 working or education trips, respectively, in a typical working day (Monday to Fridaymonring). There are 3 activity centers (combined office and school spaces, described as zones
3, 4 and 5) located adjacent to the residential areas where those tips monring trips are
atfacted to. Given the friction factor Fr : (Wu)-2 with interzonal impedance as shown inTable l, zone atfractiveness (Ay) as listed in Table 2, and socio-economic adjustuent factors(Ku) in Table 3:

QrrEsTroN 3
Supposed that the existing 600 trips originating from zone I are u ade on car and bus withknown utilities of -0.50 and -0.75, respectively.
a) Find the share of each mode using Multi Nomial l,ogit (I!OVL) model.
b) Due to the increased price of gasoline and reduced fares on public transport (govemment
initiative to atfact people to public transport) the utility of the modes has changed to -0.55
and -0.70 for car and bus, respectively.
Recalculate the share of eachmode.
' ") Finally, the local authority introduced a new rail service with the expected utility of -0.60.Under the MNL model, how much of the car and bus users are expected to swirch to railservice compared to case b)?
