Electrical Connection

Checking the running direction

1 Put the mains plug into the socket and switch the main switch on.

2 Press the red programming button at the bottom right of the control (see Figure 2 above) for approx. 3 seconds. The status LED’s for UP and DOWN on the front will flash

3 Now release the programming button again. The control is now in programming mode. In this mode, the UP andDOWN buttons can be used to move the door at creep speed in dead man’s mode.

4 Now use the UP and DOWN buttons to check that the running direction of the door corresponds to thesecommands.

If the running direction does not correspond to the arrow direction:

1 Remove the mains plug, and switch off the main switch.

2 Swap the motor connection terminals on the FU module.Attention:Due to the intermediate circuit capacitors, a high voltage is still present for up to 3 minutes afterdisconnecting the module. When handling the frequency converter, please note that live parts areexposed.

3 Resume commissioning by pressing the programming button. Remember, in commissioning mode, the drivecan only be moved with the UP and DOWN buttons in dead man’s mode.

The control will switch off when it reaches the final position limit switches and indicates which limithas been reached via the UP or DOWN limit switch status LED.

Figure 1 Figure 2

Commissioning of the Control

In the case of fixed connection (e.g. direct flush-mounted connection), a main switch must be wired into the powersupply line of the control. If the control is connected to the mains plug via the pre-assembled cable, this plug can beused as a lockable main switch. When all external command transmitters, safety devices and the drive are connected to the control, you canstart commissioning:

Installation and Programming of the Radio Receiver

Subsequent installation of the radio receiverThe 1-channel radio receiver or 4-channel radio receiver is mounted on the keyboard (inner side of cover). Use themounting clips provided to lock the receiver in place.

Setting the radio functionsDifferent functions are set by setting the eight DIP switches on the keyboard (inner side of cover):Example:In order to set an UP-outside-function (two-way traffic light switches green outside and red inside when door isopen), switch DIP switch 5 to ON. Programme the desired button on the hand transmitter to channel 2 of the radioreceiver.

Setting the final positions

Setting the bottom final position

1 Move the door to the bottom final position with the DOWN button (dead man’s mode).

2 You may need to „tap“ to reach the desired final position of the door.

3 Set the limit switch cam for DOWN (S6) in accordance with the operating instructions for the direct-mount driveused.

4 The DOWN LED lights up.

Setting the top final position

1 Move the door to the top final position with the UP button (dead man’s mode)

2 Once again, you may need to „tap“ to reach the desired final position of the door.

3 Likewise, set the limit switch cam for UP (S5) in accordance with the operating instructions for the direct-mountdrive.

4 The UP LED lights up.

Setting the safety limit switchesThe safety limit switches (yellow) are set with a lag to the respective operating limit switch. Observe the relevantinformation in the operating instructions for the direct-mount drive. If a safety limit switch is contacted, the controlvoltage will be switched off. The relevant switching cam must then be manually turned away from the microswitch ofthe limit switching (use the emergency hand crank or the „light hand-chain“ for this purpose).

Setting the pre-limit switches

1 Bottom pre-limit switch, pressure testing/function cutoff (S7)• Set the switching cam so that it activates approx. 5 cm above the floor• In the case of a pneumatic safety edge, this setting serves to start the operation of the safety edge test

mode. (introduce testing according to ZH 1/494)• In the case of an electrical safety edge, this setting serves for “function cutoff of the switching rail”, so no

reversing of the door occurs when the floor is contacted• Irrespective of which safety edge is set, creep mode is activated at this point (see page 19) during descent

2 Top pre-limit switch (S8)• Set switching cam so that it is activated shortly before the top limit switch (S5). The switch serves to change

to creep mode during ascent (see page 19).

Precise adjustment of the final positions is performed using the fine adjusting screw of the relevant switching cam.

3 When the setting of the limit switches is complete, press the programming button until the UP and DOWN signallamps flash, then release the programming button.

4 This completes the setting of the final position limit switches; the control is now in operating mode.

Function Description

Connection of external command transmitters

1. Safety contact edgeA safety edge contact or a self-monitoring electrical switching rail can be connected to terminals A1 and B1 (de-pending on the programme version). The required sensor is integrated into the WSTE control (self-monitoring,redundant sensor in accordance with guideline ZH1/494).In order to ensure monitoring of the rubber helix cable, a resistance of 1.2 kOhm is also provided at terminals A1and B1. This must be installed in the safety edge contact or at the end of the electrical safety edge in accordancewith the wiring diagram for WSTE 1000 FU.In the case of electrical safety edges ready made ex-works, the resistance may already be integrated in the edge. Therefore, before commissioning, please check that this has the correct resistance value.

2. Emergency stop button (ZH 1/494 and applicable EN guidelines must be observed)The WSTE 1000 FU control can be optionally supplied with an emergency stop button. In addition, an externalemergency stop button can be connected to terminals A2 and B2. The jumper between A2 and B2 must then beremoved.

Programming the “self-learning” radio systemThe coding of the hand transmitter is specified by the manufacturer. The radio receiver must be set to this code. Inorder to programme the hand transmitter coding to the radio receiver, proceed as follows:

1 Briefly press the „Programme channel 1“ buttonon the radio receiver.• The relevant red signal light flashes.• You can programme the hand transmitter

code within the next 15 seconds.

2 To do this, press the button on the hand transmit-ter for approx. 2 seconds. The programming of thehand transmitter code is confirmed by illumina-tion of the signal light which was previously flash-ing on the receiver.

3 Now release the button on the hand transmitter again. You can now programme the 4 buttons on the 4-channel receiver in a similar manner. Altogether you canprogramme up to 30 different transmitter codes (buttons) per receiver. The 31st code will not be accepted by thereceiver!

If more than 30 transmitter codes are required, we recommend the use of the „self-learning radio - 12 bit“.

Deleting the programmed transmitter codes:

1 Keep the „Programme channel 1“ button pressed down.• First of all the red signal light flashes slowly.• After approx. 5 seconds the red signal light flashes quickly.• Continue to keep the button pressed down to confirm the delete process.• When the signal light goes out, this means that all codes of the 1-channel receiver and all 4 channels of the

4-channel receiver have been deleted.

2 Only now release the „Programme channel 1“ button.

3. Wicket door switch/spring fracture protectionA wicket door switch and the switching contact for the spring fracture protection can be connected to terminals A2and B2 (all contacts must be connected in series). If these safety devices are installed, the jumper must be re-moved.

4. Slack steel cable limit switchA slack cable limit switch can be connected to terminals A3 and B3. This input has an anti-oscillation device fitted viaan internal time function element of 0.3 seconds. If these safety devices are installed, the jumper must be removed.

5. External command transmitters – UP / STOP / DOWNAn additional 3-way push-button can be connected to terminals A4, B4, A5 and B5. This is identical in function to thefunction keys on the front of the control. When the door is opened via this UP command, the two-way traffic lightchanges to „green-inside“. The control allows exit from the underground garage.

6. Button input – UP / STOP / UP insideA pull switch or keyswitch can be connected to terminals A10/B10. The function is UP when the door is closed,STOP when the door is moving and UP again when the door is half-open.For safety reasons, the DOWN function is only executed via the pull switch when the door is in the upper finalposition. If the traffic light control (two-way traffic control) is used, the traffic light is switched to green inside the undergroundgarage by the UP command via terminals A10/B10. The control recognises the command as „UP from inside“.Accordingly, the traffic light allows exit from the underground garage.

7. Button input UP / STOP / UP outsideA pull switch or keyswitch can also be connected to terminals A11 and B11. The function is identical to point 6.In this case, if the traffic light control (two-way traffic control) is used, the traffic light outside the underground garageis switched to green by the UP command via terminals A11/B11. The control recognises the command as „UP fromoutside“. Accordingly, the traffic light allows entry into the underground garage.

8. Reclosing releaseBy connecting terminals A9/B9 (e.g. with a jumper) the „Automatic reclosing“ function is activated. The reclosingdelay is set with the potentiometer on the keyboard (inside of cover) (setting range 8 – 200 seconds). If the reclosing is only to be active at particular times, an external industrial programme timer with potential-freecontact must be connected.

9. Roll-up anti trap safety deviceA roll-up anti trap safety device (e.g. light barrier, steel cable or safety contact edge) can be connected to terminalsA6 and B6. This function is effective in the UP direction and performs a STOP function when activated. After activa-tion of the roll-up safety device, the automatic reclosing function is switched off, until a new command is given viathe UP or DOWN command transmitters.

In cases where the roll-up safety device is used in the EMERGENCY STOP safety circuit, if thissafety function activates, DOWN movement of the door can only be performed using the emergencycontrol „light hand-chain“ or the emergency hand crank.

10. Light barrier (close to the floor)A light barrier (installed approx. 30 – 50 cm above the floor) can be connected to terminals A7 / B7. This controlinput has two functions:

• If the light beam from the light barrier is interrupted while the door is closing, the system stops and movesinto the upper final position after a short interval.

• If the light beam from the light barrier is interrupted when the reclosing function is switched on and the dooris open (e.g. if a vehicle exits), the automatic closing time is reset to 8 seconds (clearing phase). The doorcloses when this time has expired.

11. UP button (door outside)To open the door from outside, a button or induction loop sensor or similar can be connected to terminals A9 / B9.If the traffic light control (two-way traffic control) is used, this UP command switches the traffic light outside theunderground garage to green. The control recognises the command as „Up from outside“. Accordingly, the trafficlight allows entry into the underground garage. For the STOP and DOWN switching commands, use inputs A4, A5and B5 as described under point 5.

Integrated control elements

1. Door UPIf the UP button (on the front) is pressed, the door opens in self-latching mode. When it reaches the upper finalposition or if a safety function actuates for the UP direction (e.g. run-in safety device), the door stops automatically. If the UP button is pressed while the door is moving downwards, the door stops and moves up again after a shortinterval.

2. STOPThe opening or closing door can be stopped in any position by pressing the STOP button (on the front). Please notethat the door does not stop immediately in this case, but is braked over the set ramp. A short roll-on occurs (seepage 17, “Setting the ramps”).

3. Door DOWNIf the DOWN button (on the front) is pressed, the door closes. When it reaches the lower final position or if a safetyfunction actuates for the DOWN direction (e.g. wicket door contact) the door stops automatically. If the bottom pneumatic safety edge or the light barrier actuates, the door stops and then moves into the upper finalposition. If the WSTE 1000 FU is equipped with a pneumatic safety edge, this rail is monitored by the „pressure testing“. Inthe event of negative testing (see also notes on pages 11 and 12 in this regard), when the door next closes, the doormovement will only be performed in „dead man’s mode“. In order to change over to self-locking again, a positivetest must be performed, or a „RESET“ by switching off the power supply. The parameters set via the display areretained.

4. Emergency stop buttonIf the emergency stop button is activated, the drive is immediately disconnected from the power supply. Furtherdoor movement is only possible when the emergency stop button has been released. The fault display flashes to indicate that the emergency stop button has been pressed.

Relay outputs

1. Inside traffic lightA red or red-green traffic light can be connected to the Traffic light 1 terminals. The traffic light is red when the door is closed or moving. When the door has reached the upper final position, thetraffic light changes to green. The red traffic light then goes out.

2. Outside traffic lightA red or red-green traffic light can be connected to the Traffic light 2 terminals. In conjunction with Traffic light 1(inside), both traffic lights operate in the „two-way traffic control“ function.

Please note that the two-way traffic control can only function if the external commands are correctlyallocated (distinction between UP command from outside/UP command from inside).

3. Potential-free contactsThe WSTE 1000 FU is equipped with 4 switching relays. In the standard programme versions (x.0x for pneumaticsafety edge with pressure testing and x.2x for electrical safety edge) the relays behave as follows:a) Two-way traffic lights TRAFFIC LIGHT1 and TRAFFIC LIGHT2.b) Door status (POT2) always switches „ON“ when the door leaves the lower final position.c) Automatic illumination impulse, on the UP command a short switching impulse is given (recognisable by illumi-

nation of the „Function 1“ LED on the front of the control). The WSTE 1000 FU wiring diagram shows the connections to the function relays.

4. Power supply for external safety devicesThe power supply for external safety devices can be connected to the „+“ and „-“ terminals (control input terminalsequence).U = 24V, Imax = 100mA.

The pneumatic safety edge consists of the following components:1. The pressure profile is secured with the clamping rail on the closing edge of the door.2. The safety edge contact acts as a „switch“ to convert the air blast from the profile into an electrical switching

impulse (see also Section 1 „electrical circuit“ in this regard).3. Connecting and closing stoppers, as well as pressure hose, seal the pressure profile so that it is air-tight and

form the connection from the rubber pressure profile to the safety edge contact (see also Section 2, „Pneumaticcircuit“ in this regard).

Ensure that the safety edge contact is connected correctly:The control requires a contact break.

Function of the Pneumatic Safety Edge

LED displays

1. Fault / Safety stopThe LEDs display the existing fault by means of various flashing pulses. (See „Error code“ table, page 14).

2. Safety stop, safety edge contact with testingWhen the door reaches pre-limit switch S7, the safety stop LED illuminates on the front of the control. When positivetesting has occurred, the display goes out (see also „The function of the pneumatic safety edge“).

3. Reclosing featureIf the reclosing feature has been activated, this is indicated by the „Reclosing“ LED (see „Reclosing release“ func-tional description).

Cycle counter queryThe WSTE 1000 FU control stores the number of door openings (e.g. for maintenance purposes). This can be calledup either via the control unit or via the LEDs on the front. For call up via the display, see page 16.

Call up via LEDs:Press the red programme button at the bottom right of the control, until the UP and DOWN LEDs (on the front) flashsimultaneously (approx. 3 seconds). Then release the programme button again. The control is now in query mode.In order to start the query, press the STOP button until the „STOP“ LED flashes, then the UP and DOWN LEDs flashsimultaneously. Now make a note of the number of flashing pulses of the red STOP LED. This will show the first figure of the totaldoor cycles. Each further figure is indicated by simultaneous flashing of the UP and DOWN LEDs and is alsodisplayed by flashing of the STOP LED. When the last figure has been displayed, the UP and DOWN LEDs flashalternately. The display is complete; press the programme button repeatedly in order to return to normal operatingmode.

Example of a door cycle query:Press programme button (approx. 5 sec.) „UP“ and „DOWN“ LEDs flash simultaneouslyPress STOP button (approx. 5 sec.) „STOP“ LED flashes

„UP“ and „DOWN“ LEDs flash simultaneously,then „STOP“ LED flashes 5 times Figure 1 = 5„UP“ and „DOWN“ LEDs flash simultaneously,then „STOP“ LED flashes 0 times Figure 2 = 0„UP“ and „DOWN“ LEDs flash simultaneously,then „STOP“ LED flashes 9 times Figure 3 = 9„UP“ and „DOWN“ LEDs flash alternatelyQuery ended Number of door cycles = 509

Functional Principle of the Pressure TestingThe pneumatic circuit of the pneumatic safety edge cannot be permanently checked for the control. For this reason, the performance of pressure testing is prescribed in the industrial sector (ZH 1/494).In this case, when the control is approx. 5 cm above the floor, it receives the message that the safety edge contactmust switch (by contacting the floor) within a prescribed test time (differs according to the control), thus providingan impulse. If this break impulse is identified by the pressure sensor, the control remains in self-locking mode. If thereclosing feature is activated on the WSTE 1000 FU control, the door continues to close automatically.

- The pressure test was positive! -If this break impulse is not identified by the pressure sensor, because e.g. there is a defect in the pneumatic circuit, the next descent of the door is only performed in dead man’s mode. If the reclosing feature is activated, the doordoes not continue to close automatically. The activated reclosing function is no longer performed for safety rea-sons.

- The pressure test was negative! -The control can then be reset to self-locking mode by repairing the bottom pneumatic safety edge. When repair hasbeen effected, either a complete test cycle (in dead man’s mode) must be performed or the control is reset usingReset (briefly switching off).

The pneumatic safety edge consists of two circuits with different action:

1. The electrical circuitA resistance (1.2 kOhm) is connected in series with thesafety edge contact. The electrical components (e.g. of thehelix cable) are monitored by this resistance. Because a qui-escent current constantly flows via the 1.2 kOhm, the sensorunit identifies the functioning cable and also the closed pres-sure (break) contact. If the helix cable is now interrupted dueto external effects or short-circuited due to crushing, the nor-mal flow of the quiescent current changes. The control detects the damage!

2. The pneumatic circuitThrough the pressure profile, which is sealed air-tight on thelower edge of the door, an air blast is generated by pressingon the profile. The air is guided over the pressure hose ontothe safety edge contact. Depending on how the pressurehose is connected at the safety edge contact, you get amake or break function.(In the case of the WSTE 1000 FU a break function is re-quired on principle!)A door control can only detect a defect in the pneumaticcomponents through pressure testing.

Do not set the safety edge contact too sensi-tively, otherwise if the door does not operatesmoothly it will be triggered by “contactbounce”.

Function of the Electrical Safety Edge

The electrical safety edge (with make or break function) must always be provided with a terminal resistance (1.2 or8.2 kOhm), via which a quiescent current constantly flows. This means that the electrical safety edge can be perma-nently monitored. In the case of rubber edges without a sealing lip which set down on the floor, the “STOP with ascent” function cutoffmust occur approx. 3-5 cm above the floor with pre-limit switch S7.However, it is better if the bottom end position of the door is set so that the rail does not set down on the floor.Sealing occurs by means of a sealing lip mounted on the rail. The electrical safety edge is connected to the helix cable via a clamp (item no. 4903 500 0130 0).

Basic comments on handling the control unitOnly perform settings via the control unit with the system stopped. Likewise, the displayshould only be connected and disconnected with the system at a standstill. The display isilluminated. The lighting is activated by the first button press on the control unit. The buttonsonly have the allocated functions when the lighting is switched on. The lighting is deactivatedafter a 2 minute interval between inputs.

Function of the buttons:

Screen selection back or reduce value of parameter

Acknowledge entry

Screen selection forward or increase value of parameter

After connecting the control unit, first of all the display lighting is switched on, and the soft-ware version of the display appears in the display for approximately 1 second (Fig. A).

„Door operation“ then appears in the display (Fig. B).If the control is malfunctioning, then the current fault will be displayed.

In order to reach setting mode from „Door operation“, the two outer buttons must be pressedfor approximately 1 second. As soon as you are in this mode, this will be indicated on thedisplay (Fig. C). Further door operation is blocked.

Menu 1The first menu level in setting mode consists of three displays:Fig. 1.1 shows the current counter status of the cycle counter.Example: Cycle = 12345

In Fig. 1.2, the current software version of the WSTE 1000 FU is displayed.Example: Version 1.01

Pressing the ENTER key takes you back to „Door operation“. (Fig. 1.3)

Please note that you can only exit setting mode via the query „End setting?“.The control changes to normal operating mode when you exit.

Parameter modifications can only be performed on the second menu level.Changing to menu level 2 occurs by simultaneously pressing the two outer keys on thecontrol unit. Changeover can take place from any of the 3 displays in level 1.

Menu 2

Menu guidanceThe individual parameters can only be changed in this menu! You can scroll through themenu using the two outer buttons. If you wish to change the displayed parameter or triggeran action, the ENTER key must be pressed for approximately 1 second. A „>“ to the left of thevalue indicates that this can now be changed with the UP and DOWN buttons. When thedesired value has been set, this must be confirmed by pressing the ENTER key again. The„>“ disappears and you can change to the next display. To exit Menu 2, press the two outer buttons again (you can do this irrespective of the currentdisplay). The „End setting?“ query then immediately appears in the display (Fig. 1.3).Press the ENTER key to change from setting mode back to the operating mode.

Adjusting the frequency converterIn the first screen of Menu 2, you can select the door type used.Screen door = Folien - Sectional door = SekTor - Roller door = RolTorExample: Door type - Sectional door (Fig. 2.1)Different functions are activated and deactivated with this selection. With these settings adistinction is made between the starting behaviour of the various door types and the differentacceleration and deceleration times (ramps).Screen door: Basic function with 3 speeds for ascent, descent and creep mode, as well as arun-up and a braking ramp.Roller door: Like the screen door, but is started from the bottom final position in creep modefirst of all. Depending on the setting of the pre-limit switch, the door is then accelerated up tothe actual ascent speed (laths released).Sectional door: Like screen door, but with 4 ramps (2 run-up and 2 braking ramps). So onerun-up and one braking ramp are provided for each ascent and descent. In this case, ramps are required which have index 1 for ascent and ramps with index 2 fordescent of the door.

Setting the speedIn the menu items „Ascent“, „Descent“ and „Creep“ (Fig.2.2 to 2.4), the speeds forascent, descent and creep mode are set.Example: Ascent at 60.4 Hz (Fig. 2.2)

Descent at 30.0 Hz (Fig. 2.3)Creep speed at 15.1 Hz (Fig. 2.4)

The entry corresponds to the cyclic frequency present in the motor. The following limits aredefined for setting these parameters.

fmin < = creep speed < = descent <= ascent <= fmaxThe limit values fmin and fmax can and must only be altered by trained personnel. Normal usershave no access to them.

Setting the rampsThe various ramps can be set in menu items 2.5 to 2.8 (displays 2.7 and 2.8 only appearwhen „Sectional door“ is selected and are skipped if another type of door is set).

Ramps with index 1 apply if screen door or roller door are selected, both for ascent anddescent, as well as for creep speed. The set ramp time (acceleration or deceleration) alwaysrefers to the values set for ascent, as this is the maximum speed or frequency. A run-up ramp(H-ramp) of 0.5 seconds thus means that at a set ascent frequency of 50 Hz, the drive accel-erates from a standstill to 50 Hz in 0.5 seconds. The same applies for braking with the setbraking ramp (B-ramp). Lower speeds, such as descent and creep speed, are reached orslowed down to in correspondingly shorter times. If „Sectional door“ is selected, ramps withindex 1 only apply for the upward movement of the door (ascent and creep speed in theupper end position). For the downward movement, ramps with index 2 now apply. The timesset here refer to the descent frequency.

Boost settingThe starting voltage of the motor can be set using the parameter shown in Fig. 2.9.Example: Boost = 10V (Fig. 2.9)

This voltage influences the motor torque in the lower frequency range. If diffi-culties should arise when starting the door, changing this value may some-times provide a remedy.

Code settingEntering the correct code allows additional parameters to be set, but these may only bealtered by trained personnel.

Saving parametersAll modifications are first of all located in a temporary storage area, i.e. they will be lost in theevent of a power supply failure. If you wish to retain the modifications, they must be saved. There are several ways to save them: The values can be stored in the frequency converterand/or the control unit. The same applies for reading out the values. The additional option of saving in the control unit has the advantage that values can betransferred from one control to another. The saving or reading process is indicated by a message on the display. This process istriggered by prolonged pressing of the ENTER key.

Procedure for saving or reading1. Select target storage location (Fig. 2.11 or 2.12)2. Activate storage by prolonged pressing (approx. 1s) of the ENTER key.3. „Saving in progress“ appears during the saving process (Fig. 2.13)4. When the procedure is complete, the original indication reappears in the display (Fig.

2.11 or 2.12).

The reading out procedure is similar to the save procedure1. Select storage location (Fig. 2.15 or 2.16)2. Activate reading out by prolonged pressing (approx. 1s) of the ENTER key.3. „Reading in progress“ appears during the reading process (Fig. 2.16)4. When the procedure is complete, the original indication reappears in the display (Fig.

2.15 or 2.16).

Transferring parametersIf you wish to transfer parameters from one control to another, proceed as follows:1. Connect the control unit to the control from which you wish to transfer the parameters2. In Menu 2 change to Save > Display (Fig. 2.12) and activate this function by

pressing the ENTER key3. When saving is complete, return to the operating mode (press both outer keys, then

ENTER) and disconnect the control unit.4. Then connect the control unit to the target control.5. In Menu 2 change to „Read out display“ (Fig. 2.15) and activate this function by

pressing the ENTER key. The values are now located in a temporary storage area of thetarget control.

6. Change to „Save -> FU“ (Fig. 2.11) and activate this function. When saving hastaken place, the „transfer“ is complete.

Door Course / Functional Principle of the WSTE 1000 FU

Functional descriptionAfter activating an up command, the door accelerates up to its set ascent speed P3. It moves up to the top pre-limitswitch at this speed, brakes to creep speed P1 and moves into its top end position. As long as an up command ispresent, e.g. due to a light barrier, the door stays open. If there is no longer an up command, after the stay-opentime has expired the door moves at its descent speed P2 as far as its bottom pre-limit switch, brakes to creep speedP1 and moves into its bottom end position. The bottom limit switch introduces the test phase, and the door movesuntil the bottom pneumatic safety edge rail has given a switching impulse and the test time has expired. If thebottom pneumatic safety edge gives a switching impulse during descent (before the bottom limit switch), the doorwill reverse in the up direction after a quick stop.
