THE HOLY SPIRIT IS THE FORCE VITALE

Some years back, a pa-rishioner took me to the GM factory in Oshawa. I saw how the skeletons of different models were made. Also, I got to see how these models are nothing with-out the motor. All the cars must be pow-ered by equivalent motor and this is lik-

ened to what the Holy Spirit does in our lives. The Holy Spirit is the motivating ‘Force’ that makes Christian life possible. Last Sunday, we celebrated the feast of the Ascension, which intro-duced the beginning of the mission of the Apostles and the end of the earthly mission of Christ. For the apostles to go out and profess Jesus, they needed the help of the Holy Spirit, hence Jesus said to them today: “Receive the Holy Spirit”. (Jn. 20:22) The reception of the Spirit made the Gospel clearer to the Apostles and empow-ered them to fearlessly preach to the world what they have received from Jesus. Consequently, we are able to live out our Christian life today be-cause the Holy Spirit has been poured into our hearts at baptism and other Sacraments. Let us pray for the fresh anointing of the Holy Spirit with his seven gifts: Wisdom, Understanding, Counsel, Piety, Knowledge, Awe of God and Fortitude. In the words of Rev. James McKarns: “The Spirit of Pentecost moves us from fear to courage; from weakness to strength; from grabbing to giving. It dares us to live a faith-filled, love-inspired life each day”. (Go Tell Everyone, p.134)Come Holy Spirit and fill the hearts of the faithful. And enkindle in them the fire of your love! - Fr AnthonyNB: The Rosary is a very special weapon against temptation and sin; please join us every evening before mass this month to give thanks to God through Mother Mary.

Citizengo petition - We've known this moment was coming since last year's Supreme Court ruling, demanding that the government take action on assisted suicide. Now a bill has been introduced into Parliament to legalize assisted suicide... It's do or die to STOP the killing of the weak and vulnerable in Canada. Officials have said of this bill that a patient does not even have to have a terminal condi-tion, and have cited the example of someone with an immune sys-tem deficiency which simply leaves them vulnerable to lethal infec-tions. Protect the weak and vulnerable. Please sign the petition to stop assisted suicide in Canada.Your petition signature will be emailed immediately to Prime Min-ister Trudeau, Justice Minister Wilson-Raybould, and Health Min-ister Philpott, expressing your opposition to this dreadful bill!

The Knights are taking pre-orders for their famous sau-sages. The cost is $5 per pound. Please sign up at the entrance. If you are doing spring clean up at home and have good quality merchandise, please save it for the yard sale which is on June 18th.

A big thank you to the Faith Formation team at St. Therese Parish! This year, 83 children from our community received First Eucharist and 71 were Confirmed. We thank Fr. Anthony and Fr. Theo for teaching the kids in our schools that the sacraments are a key, life-changing point-of-contact with God himself.THANK YOU to Iman Deal and Sheri Palazzolo for their dedicated service to the parish. Without you, all those faith formation and religious education pro-grams would never be at the level of quality they are. Because of you, our chil-dren and their parents, are led to deeper faith. We are dedicated to the tremendous support of our Sisters of St. Mary of Leu-ca, our Parish Reps Heather and Kathy Desouza, School Catechetical Leaders, and Teachers.

We also thank Christopher Palazzolo, Natalie Palazzolo, Diedre Joachim, Debbie Lukow, the Pastoral Staff, the Knights, the CWC and the Youth Committee, the Ushers, Altarservers and the Choirs for their contribution towards the Sacra-ments of First Communion and Confirmation. We need more help in 2016-2017 as the First Communion and First Reconciliation programs will run only in the Parishes. Please contact the Parish office if you are able to help.

DIOCESE OF PETERBOROUGH PRIEST BENEFIT FUND - ANNUAL COLLECTIONA Message from His Excellency Bishop William McGrattan:

In this past year a process to review the Priest Benefit Fund for the Diocese of Peterborough was undertaken to determine howbest to structure and grow the Priest Benefit Fund, which is critical not just for those who depend on it today, but also for those who rely on it in the years ahead. The challenges that the Fund will face in the near future are increasing. There is a need to pro-vide financial stability for our retired priests and to guarantee future security for our active priests.

Our retired priests have been generous shepherds throughout their many years of dedicated pastoral service within our Diocese. Celebrating significant moments of faith for many parishioners, they continue to do so even today as their health permits. They have baptized children, offered God's forgiveness, anointed the sick, visited the dying, prepared young people for the sacraments, and faithfully celebrated the Eucharist which is the source and summit of our faith life as Catholics.

Your annual and ongoing financial support of our Priest Benefit Fund allows the Diocese to assist the priests in their retirement.Your donation also reflects a generous spirit of gratitude to all of the priests for their many years of dedicated service within the parishes of our diocese. The Priest Benefit Fund currently has assets of $5 Million dollars. There is a policy and guidelines to govern and direct the man-agement of the Fund. A financial actuarial study revealed that at the present time it is underfunded by 50% given the current and projected number of diocesan priests who will retire and are entitled to receive monthly financial assistance and healthcare cover-age from the Fund. It currently supports 23 priests in our diocese who are retired. The stewardship of this Fund is essential and will need to increase.

YOU CAN HELP BY

Contributing generously to the annual Priest Benefit Fund Collection which is June 5, 2016Remembering the Priest Benefit Fund in your willMaking the Priest Benefit Fund a beneficiary - of a registered retirement savings plan (RRSP)-of a registered retirement income fund (RRIF)-of a life insurance policy-of stocks and securities

We encourage you to confer with your own legal, accounting, insurance and financial advisor. Our retired priests were there to support you and your family when you needed them ... Will you be there to support them in their retirement?Thank you for your generous contributions to our ANNUAL COLLECTION.Sincerely Yours in Christ,

CATECHESIS OF THE GOOD SHEPHERD CERTIFICATE PROGRAM

Level I: Foundations Course: Children Ages Birth - 6

This introductory course for adults will explore the foundations of an internationally recog-nized approach to the religious education of children known as the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd. The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd for children highlights essential aspects of the Christian message that nurture the child’s need to love and be loved and the child’s capacity to

enjoy God’s presence in their life. The course offers an orientation to the theological concepts fundamental to this ministry with children. It introduces the foundational Biblical and Liturgical themes which we present to children, through a combination of conversation, reflec-tion and presentation, these delivered as we would share them with children. The course also offers opportunities to work with the catechetical materials, which are hand-made to nurture children’s prayer.

This approximately 90-hour course, offered over the course of two intensive weeks, is especially designed for those who are interested or already involved in caring for the spiritual lives of children; in the home, parish and school setting. It isalso a prerequisite for further adult formation courses in the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd Certificate Program (Levels II and III).

Part I covers all that is shared with the children during the 1st year spent in the Atrium and Part 2 covers all that is shared with children in the 2nd and 3rd years spent in the Level 1 Atrium.

Schedule Part 1: July 11th – 15th, 2016

This approximately 90-hour course, offered over the course of two intensive weeks, is especially designed for those who are interested or already involved in caring for the spiritual lives of children; in the home, parish and school setting. It isalso a prerequisite for further adult formation courses in the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd Certificate Program (Levels II and III).

Part I covers all that is shared with the children during the 1st year spent in the Atrium and Part 2 covers all that is shared with children in the 2nd and 3rd years spent in the Level 1 Atrium.
