Indra : Hi, Imelda, Where do you go every Saturday afternoon? I called your house a few times
and your mum said that
you are attending classes.
Imelda : Yes. Im taking up sign language classes.
Indra : Sign language? Why? You are not becoming hearing impaired, arent you ?
Imelda : No, Im not.
Indra : Then why? Do you know any deaf people?
Imelda : Not at the moment. But once I met a deaf lady and I didnt know how to talk to her. That
was when I decided to
learn a sign language. At that time I didnt know where to go for classes. Then I heard
that they were having sign
language courses at my church and I signed up.
Indra : Is sign language difficult to learn?
Imelda : Not Really. First we learnt some simple words and now we are learning the alphabet.
Soon well learn to talk in
sign language to one another. Its actually very interesting. You use your hands instead
of your mouth to talk to
people.
Indra : Its sounds like you are enjoying yourself.
Imelda : Yes, I am. Now when I meet any hearing impaired people, Ill be able to communicatewith them easily,
provided they know the sign language, of course.
