Please email your news to [email protected]. Words cannot describe the awesome time we experienced during morning worship service this past Sunday. It was such an anointing all over the sanctuary! We can only keep the family of Lorenzen Wright in prayer. No parent can prepare themselves for a situation such as that, therefore my thoughts and prayers are with that family. A lot of us followed this young man throughout his basketball career. The family of the late Henry Clay & Pearl Bond enjoyed their family reunion this past weekend on the grounds of the home place in Denmark. They had wonderful fellowship and climaxed the event Sunday at Browns Creek for worship service. Aurelia Henning Burks is still hanging in there in spite of going through the healing process of a wrist she broke recently! Hats off to the children of Pearline Jones! Thought for the week: “Let Liberty Decide” As believers, we all have to make a number of conscious decisions; decisions concerning our jobs, families, marriages, God, and concerning our life in general. Although the decisions we are faced with are often at times difficult, there is something we all can find joy in. Something very few of us believe we even have at our disposal: Liberty. Believe it or not, we as believers have been granted liberty in the spirit of God to make choices that will effect change in not only our lives, but in the world we live in. As Christians, all the power and rights we have ever needed were transferred to us over 2000 years ago at the cross. It is time for us all to realize that we are not only free and liberated “by” the spirit and sacrifice of Christ, but we also now have the ability to experience liberty “in” Christ every day of our lives. It is time we all took a self-examination of our lives and discover whether we are making decisions that represent a heart that is truly free in Christ......or are we simply just making decisions? Scripture Of The Day: “All things are lawful for me, but not all things are helpful; all things are lawful for me,but not all things edify.” - 1 Corinthians 10:23v (NKJV) It was amazing to see the rain Monday! Aren’t you glad God sends showers even when we don’t deserve them? God is an awesome God! Even with all the rain, Norma Austin took her granddaughter Allison to the movies Monday night where they enjoyed seeing “Ramona and Beezus”. Deana had already taken Hayleigh to see the movie last Sunday afternoon, but the Whitherspoons were at a water park. Chris and Deana Austin surprised their children Sunday afternoon with a trip to Kentucky where they enjoyed a water park. That seems to be the popular thing to do with all of this HOT and HUMID weather. Lots of folks were out of town for a final getaway this weekend before school starts. Scottie and Betty Morris, Monica Bivens and Sara Littlejohn spent the night in Nashville Friday night and visited Belle Meade Plantation Saturday. Sunday afternoon they picked up Roger (Monica’s husband) and took him out to eat in Memphis to celebrate his birthday. Happy birthday to you Roger! It sounds like he enjoyed an awesome evening. Bradley, Michele, and Whitley Williams returned home Friday after spending a week in Panama City. I’m sure Ethan was delighted to have them home after he had been batching for a week since he decided to stay behind and attend the “Young Guns” event and work. However, Whitley enjoyed having mom and dad to herself. Alice Elrod (mama), Norma Austin, and I traveled to Franklin Friday and stayed until Sunday. We did a LOT of shopping and eating and had a blast! Jimmy also went to Franklin, but he stayed with the Rainey’s and I met up with him Sunday afternoon and traveled back with him. I couldn’t talk him into riding with us and staying with us. A huge thank-you to Tommy and Judy Elrod for the green beans and peas and to Justin and Britany Phillips for some corn and tomatoes! We have truly enjoyed those fresh vegetables and even had some green tomatoes out of our own garden! Scottie Morris reported twenty attending the community prayer breakfast Thursday morning with Brother Carl White finishing the Beatitude study. Thanks guys for gathering every Thursday morning to pray for various requests. Mama came over to help me in my classroom Thursday, but I was so overwhelmed that we didn’t get much done. However, we did go out to eat and to Crestview for a visit with Aunt Francis Elrod. I truly appreciate Kellie Mask for all of the great ideas shared and Lee Ann Garrett for the encouraging words. Principal Sandra Humphreys as well as Vice Principal Amy Harris are great administrators and I look forward to working with them this year at East Side. Also, pray for teachers and students not only as school begins, but the whole year through. Call me at 772-4257 if you have news. People want to know! Our thought for the day is by Phillip Polo of Kenya as published in the Upper Room Devotional. Rather than worrying about the little we may have lost, we can thank God for the much we have been given. Do you ever feel that you have become a prisoner of worry? Especially while facing these uncertain times in which we are living today with jobs and home being lost. Worry is something that is very unhealthy for us. Instead of focusing on what we have lost if we would focus on what we have been given then we shall have the joy, peace of mind and comfort we need. If you have family, friends, food on your table, shoes on your feet and a roof over your head then you are blessed and should thank God every day for these blessings. Remember we came into this world without anything and we will leave without anything. Saturday July 24, Travis, Krystle and I attended the Ken-Ten Tractor Pull and it sure was hot but despite the heat we enjoyed it. This is a great fun filled night out for families and all the proceeds are designated to go for a good cause. This year the proceeds went for Backpacks for Kids. There were so many people in attendance from the Hillville-Eurekaton communities to name. I would definitely leave someone out and I don’t want to offend anyone so I am not going to attempt to list everyone and besides there probably wouldn’t be enough room in my column to do so. Alexis Moore, daughter of Mark & Leann Moore, celebrated her second birthday with a party at the Park of Dreams in Brownsville Sunday, August 1. I understand there was a good turnout for the Youth Rally which was held at the Hillville Community Center Saturday, July 31. The youth enjoyed games, food, music and most of all a great time of fellowship. Thanks to everyone who made this a successful event. Thirty two years ago August 2, the Watson family lost a really great guy, my Dad, Robert Watson due to a senseless tragedy. Though this was a dark time in my life I now realize that my Dad had fulfilled his purpose on earth and that this dark time in my life was a trial and it only made me stronger. In loving memory of Robert Watson, Oct. 14, 1942-August 2, 1978. Happy birthday wishes this week to Gabrielle Williams, Glenda Wilson, Nathan Morris, Gail Austin, Mary Beth Freels, Roger Kirkland, Ashlie Mothershed, Drake Sills and Lucille Elrod. Please continue to pray for Rhonda Holmes, Edna Austin, Peggy Lewis, Kirk Bouillion, Mae Simpson, Rita Elrod, Fletcher Lewis, Dustin Milton, Enid Powell, Shirley Morgan, Darlene Rossen, Earline Benard, Lillie Goodman, Jennie Benard, Jordan & Carol Bruce, Leah Scallions, Frances Elrod, the Nation, The Military and our Community.
