Problem Statement
4Strategic Management Information
There is a high demand for data and information
to inform evidence-based decision-making.
Challenges include
• data quality;
• data sharing;
• consistency of data management methods;
• duplication and overlap in data collection methods; and
• data collected that is unused.
Note: Over the years, a number of initiatives have been implemented to address these
challenges, but in most cases, these initiatives did not produce the desired and required
effect.

Response
5Strategic Management Information
There is a renewed urgency and an increased demand for improved
data and statistics that is comparable at global, regional, national,
provincial and local levels;
It is about taking leadership and being responsive to the emerging
responsibility that data, statistics and information needs to be relevant
and reliable; managed better for the public good of the WCG; and
Gives us the best chance for better, faster and more relevant
decisions.

and BI
Data Governance across the departments
becomes critical and refers to the overall
management of the availability, usability,
integrity, and security of data assets within the
WCG.
Partnering is vital in data and information
products and systems for evidence-based
decisions.
At an institutional level, Province-wide BI is
underpinned by Provide-wide Data
Governance that will ultimately contribute
towards coherence in data use and
production across departments.
