H2S EMISSION: A PROBLEM IN WARM
CLIMATES
• The hydrogen sulfide formation results from combination of several factors such as:–High temperature,–Extensive sewerage networks,–A high staying time,–Anaerobic conditions with low flow rates.
These conditions are often encountered in hot countries, such asMiddle East, Latin America, Asia.
• H2S is emitted on equipments such as lifting stations, weirs, primary settling tanks, or at the entrance of aeration tanks.
• H2S create security problems: Inhalation can cause – depending on the quantity – loss of consciousness et even death.
• H2S corrodes concrete and metal within sewerage facilities.
• H2S is extremely smelly: its emission generates odor pollution.

Arriving at the base of the tower, the air passes through the media with low speed; H2S is then transferred into the biofilms loaded with micro-organisms. These micro-organisms will use the H2S in their metabolism and remove it.Biofilms are regularly sprayed to optimize their performance.

Boost� Physico-chemical treatment that adapts instantly to any change of load meet the guarantees.
• The waste air is extracted from the plenum is transmitted using a fan into the tower or towers in
series.
• The air is injected into the tower under the packing support floor where the chemical desctructionsreactions occur.
• For each pollutant family, a specific reagent neutralizes and eliminates the malodorous compounds.
• After the packing, above the solution distribution system, the air encounters a heavy-duty demister. This limits the carry-over of drops at the outlet.
• The air is then either discharged via a flue.

CONTEXT:
• Construction of a 3 million PE capacity WWTP
• Commissioning Date: 2006
What makes the project specific:
The plant configuration makes it emit H2S on a desulfurization work conceived to eliminate strong loads of sulfides in the raw water.It was necessary to “relieve” the global deodorization of the site by treating the air in a zone immediately adjacent to the point of emission of H2S.
DESIGN:
• 3 equipments that treat 16,000 m3/h and that save the equivalent of 3.7 kg/h of bleach
RESULT:
• 99% of the pollution is eliminated
• Savings of 2,200 tons of bleach per year
