Ayurveda is a very logical medical science based on the basic principles of body mechanism and organ functioning. More than healing a

particular disease through external means, it focuses more on eliminating the root cause of the disturbances so that the body can regain its

normal strength and endurance to function properly. Before prescribing any treatment for any kind of symptom, any ayurvedic practitioner goes

through a three stage thorough examination of the patients body to find out symptoms and discrepancy that the patient body is exhibiting. The

threefold examination or trividh pariksha is carried out in systematic stages like - Prashana, Pratyaksha and Anumana. The second of these three

stages Pratyaksha is the method of direct observation.

The Stage Before Pratyaksha - Prashana (Questioning)It is the stage where the doctor questions a patient about the symptoms of the ailment he is suffering and his basic routine. It is done in order to

find out a way to lead the examination procedure.

    Pratyaksha (Observation)

Pratyaksha is the stage of direct observation. Here the doctor checks the discrepancies in the patients body through direct methods of

observation. He checks the pulse, heart beat, breathing pattern, skin color, nails and hair of the patient. It is then helpful in drawing logical and

    clear reasons behind the ailment.

The Stage After Pratyaksha - Anumana (Interference)

It is the stage where inferences are drawn out the visible and described symptoms of the patient. It also includes the stage of Aptopadesh i.e.

looking into the saying of seers in authoritative classical and other texts, so that one can draw a logical inference based on scientific principles.

    Types Of Pratyaksha (Observation)

There are two types of Pratyaksha (observation) done - the observation of patient and the observation of the disease. The observation of the

patient is done in order to find out the visible symptoms of ailment in his body. The other observation is that of disease to find out i ts intensity and

seriousness. The body of the patient is thoroughly examined in order to find out what is wrong with the body of the patient and to what extent has

the body been gripped by the disease. Here are the two steps of observation.

    Observation of Patient

Eyes -Color, shape, proportions and the luster; the healthy or diseased look of the body.

Ears -Intestinal sounds, the sounds of the joints and the finger knuckles, variations in the patient's voice or any other sounds that may

be observed in any part of the body.

Nose -Abnormal or normal odor of the body.

Touch -Normal or abnormal feel of the body, temperature of the body, swelling roughness or dryness, softness of the skin.

    Observation of Disease

Observation of ailment is done through prescribed tests related to the body symptoms. Ayurveda in present times also gives due recognition tothe pathologic and other related test to find out the problem in a patients body by using direct means of examination. Earlier, the observation of

the disease was done through Ayurvedic tests and experiments.

The most remarkable thing about Indian medical tradition is that it prevails at two different levels, namely the classical systemand the folk system. Classical system refers to the codified systems such as Ayurveda, Sidha and Unani traditions. They arecharacterized by institutionally trained practitioners, a body of texts and highly developed theories to support their practices.Folk system refers to an oral tradition passed on from father to son or mother to daughter or from guru to sishya in tens andthousands of our villages through the ages.

The wordayurveda has been coined by the conjunction of two Sanskrit words, ayur meaning life

and vedameaning knowledge. The word together means the knowledge of life. In ayurveda the process of

ayur is considered as a combined state of body, senses, psyche and soul.

Lord Brahma, the creator according to Hindu mythology created this earth in six days. It included plants,

animals and natural resources. But as the time progressed there were lots of miseries on earth and people

were suffering with so many diseases. Seeing this Brahma the creator laid the foundation of ayurveda, which

    slowly descended to earth.

As Ayurveda has a divine origin, it is considered as holistic science that is blessed by God. Some of the various

sages have contributed their whole life in spreading the magic of ayurveda in this world that is suffering fromvarious ailments and sorrows. The main motto behind spreading this divine knowledge was to make people

achieve the contended life essential for healthy and peaceful living.

Ayurveda is an ancient holistic system of medicine from India that understands health in terms of a

constitutional model. Each of us manifests a mixture of each of the three constitutional energetic forces ordoshas. Its aim is to provide guidance regarding specially designed treatments, food and lifestyle so that health

can be optimized and illness healed.

Regarding the origin of Ayurveda not much of information is available and there is still confusion as to how this science came into existence.

However, it is believed that in the beginning of Srusthi (World), Lord Bhrama wrote the four Vedas Yagurveda, Samaveda, Atharva Veda and

Rigveda. Atharva Veda contains the entire information of diseases and their treatment along with directions to lead a healthy disease free life.

Ayurveda is believed to be the gist of Atharva Veda which is more than 5000 years old.

The Siddha medicine is a form of south Indian traditional medicine and part of the trio Indian medicines -

Ayurveda, Siddha and Unani. The term 'Siddhi' means 'achievement' and the Siddhas were men who achieved

certain results in medicine, as well as in yoga or tapas. This system of medicine was popular in ancient India,

even 2000 years before Christ. Due to the antiquity of this medical system, the Siddha system of medicine is

believed to be the oldest medical system in the world.

The system is believed to be developed by the Siddhas, the ancient supernatural spiritual saints of India and the

Siddha system is believed to be handed over to the Siddha by the Hindu God - Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvathi.

So are the Siddhas, the followers of Lord Shiva(saivam). Siddha medicine was developed by these outstanding

Siddhas. According to the scriptures, there were 18 principal Siddhas. Of these 18, Sage Agasthiya is believed to

be the father of Siddha Medicine. Preparations are made mainly out of the parts of the plants and trees such as

leaves, bark, stem, root etc, but include also mineral and some animal substances.

Most of the practicing Siddha medical practitioners are traditionally trained in families and also by different gurus(teachers).

When the guru is also a martial arts teacher, he is also known as an Assan. Practicing this special healing art from obscure

clinics, they help heal many maladies which are untouched by western medicine.

Siddha medicine means medicine that is perfect. Siddha medicine is claimed torevitalize and rejuvenate dysfunctional organs that cause the disease and to

maintain the ratio of vata, pitta and kapha. The siddha medicine given topractitioners include leaves, flowers, fruit and various roots in a mixed basis. In

some extraordinary cases this medicine is not at all cured. For those such cases

they recommend to take Thanga Pashpam in it Gold is also added in an Eating

    method.

The Siddhars wrote their knowledge in palm leaf manuscripts, fragments of which

were found in different parts of South India. It is believed that some families may

possess more fragments, but keep them solely for their own use.

Siddha system is one of the oldest systems of medicine in India . The term Siddha means

achievements and Siddhars were saintly persons who achieved results in medicine. Eighteen

Siddhars were said to have contributed towards the development of this medical system.

Siddha literature is in Tamil and it is practised largely in Tamil speaking part of India and

abroad. The Siddha System is largely therapeutic in nature.

According to the tradition it was Shiva who unfolded the knowledge of Siddha system of

medicine to his concert Parvati who handed it down to Nandi Deva and he the Siddhars. The

Siddhars were great scientists in ancient times. The origin of Siddha system of medicine is

attributed to the great Siddha Ayastiyar. Some of his works are still standard books of

medicine and surgery in daily use among the Siddha Medical practitioners.

    Basic Concepts

According to this system the human body is the replica of the universe and so are the food

and drugs irrespective of their origin.

This system believes that all objects in the universe including human body are composed of

five basic elements namely, earth, water, fire, air and sky. The food, which the human body

takes and the drugs it uses are all, made of these five elements. The proportion of the

elements present in the drugs vary and their preponderance or otherwise is responsible for

    certain actions and therapeutic results.

This system also considers the human body as a conglomeration of three humours, seven

basic tissues and the waste products of the body such as faeces, urine and sweat. The food is

considered to be basic building material of human body which gets processed into humours,

body tissues and waste products. The equilibrium of humours is considered as health and its

disturbance or imbalance leads to disease or sickness.

This system also deals with the concept of salvation in life. The exponents of this system

consider achievement of this state is possible by medicines and meditation.

Unani, in simple terms, is an ancient medicine system of holistic and natural healing. If medicine is studied on the whole, we'll

come to know that natural systems are highly complex. The phrase 'one at a time' goes well with the systems of natural

medication too. This alternative system of medicine utilizes a holistic set of principles, which help a practitioner to turn a

diagnosis into a treatment process. Usually associated with Islam, Unani literally means 'Greek'.

Talking strictly about Unani Medicine, this system has two basic aspects or principles - the life force or 'thymos' and the four

vital essences or 'humors'. In any ailment, the thymos and the humors are expected to be affected in different ways, like its

probable to have very little or too much thymos in the body, or in some part of the body. Mostly affected by emotions, thymos

can also be influenced by age or disease.

However, the most frequent problems are related with the humors such as, complaints that may occur due to excessive humors

in the body or some part of the body, or very little humor. Sometimes, humor could be degraded by a poison or an insidious

micro-organism. Humors are generally influenced somewhat by the thymos and progressively by the intake like food and drink,

and by external influences, for example environment.

Unani treatment by and large entails some dietary approaches, however in nearly all cases includes Herbal Medicine. Honey

serves as the base for most of the medicines since it is believed to have healing properties. Unani Medicine also utilizes real

pearls and metals as per the target ailment. In general, treatment is made by working on specific body reflexes or by massage.

At times, in cases of musculoskeletal problems (like arthritis, back pain); treatment is also done by manipulation or by the use

of cold, heat or suction cups.

In rare cases like serious diseases, treatment may involve puncturing of certain reflex points, during which some blood

appears. The main objective of Unani system is that the medicine must always be gentle and safe, and that's what was

believed by Hippocrates. Centuries of experience and practice, has established that Unani medicine is not only gentle and safe,

but also extremely effective in healing numerous acute and chronic diseases.

Unani medicine as the name suggests, originated in Greece or Unan. It was the Greek philosopher-physician Hippocrates who freed

medicine from the realm of superstition and black magic and awarded it the status of science. The main objective of the Unani medicine

is based on the fact that, medicine should be gentle and safe. The fundamental of unani system recognizes the disease as a natural

process and symptoms of a disease as body s reaction to the disease. The chief function of the physician is to aid natural the natural

forces of the body. The whole unani medicine is based on Humoral theory which presupposes the presence of four humor namely Dum

(blood), Balgam (phlegm), Safra (yellow bile), and Sauda (black bile). It believes in the fact that body has the power of self preservation

to maintain a correct balance of theses humors. Through our show Unani Chikitsa we are striving to help the body achieve the same

balance through our eminent experts. The show mainly aims to help and develop rather than supersede or impede the action of this

    power.
