Playtest Plan

ObjectivesWe aimed to answer the following questions with our playtest:

Central Question: • Overall - How fun the game is.

Sub - questions:• Usability - Whether players interact naturally and intuitively in the game. • UI - Whether the visual indications help with tasks completion, efficiency, and satisfaction.• Art - Players’ perceptions of the main character and the art style.

Executive Summary

The average rating on fun: 3.6 (Last playtest: 3.8)

Key findings:• As a player, I need more detailed and engaging FTUE.• 7 players wanted to have an interactive and more detailed FTUE;• They hardly seen the key info of FTUE at first glance, and then they just skipped it anyway;• They rarely understood and noticed the summon boss since there was no introduction of it.

• As a player, I don’t know how to use my heroes’ skills. • 7 players didn’t know how to use the healer except simply tapped the skill icon;• 5 players thought Kotetsu had an attack skill after the animation has been applied on the skill;• 4 players felt like they needed a better explanation of each skill and how to use it.

• As a player, I feel the main character looks normal, it doesn’t appeal to me.• 5 players found most times they could only seen the character from back; • 4 players wanted to customize the appearance, race, and gender of the main character.

• As a player, I feel it’s hard to select the villain and hero sometimes. • 5 players felt the visual indication didn’t help too much to target the right villain while the combat raged on. • 3 players felt if two heroes partially overlapped, it was hard to select the hero in the back.

Executive Summary

The average rating on fun: 3.6 (Last playtest: 3.8)

Key findings:• As a player, I want more intuitive and simple interactions. • 5 players preferred to attack villains by tapping the villain directly or waited for automatically attack. • 4 players wanted a smoother interaction to adjust the angle in the map. • 3 players found it was hard to get the HP bar to show up.

Other findings:• The story should be fleshed out.• AI should have a better balance.• The visual confused players. (“exclamation mark”, the animation of candy girl’s skill, the go button in the

character detail page, etc.)

Method

RecruitmentWe recruited 10 participants - five who qualify as first time players and five who qualify as old players, including eight males and two females, age from 20 to 34.

Structure of testEach participant participated individually. They played 30 minutes demo, and I made observations as the players played the demo. After each demo section, we took about 30 minutes to complete the questionnaire and one – on – one interview.

Data collectedThe most critical data that we gathered are from participants’ comments, my own observations, and their reactions during the sessions.

Data evaluation and reportingWe collected the data to find recurring themes in the users comments, and used affinity diagram method to analyze them.

• As a player, I need more detailed and engaging FTUE.• P4 – 17 “I hope FTUE could explain all the key features and icons.”• P5 – 5 “I don’t like the way to show FTUE, should be more interactive and focused.”

• As a player, I don't know how to use my healer except tap her skill icon.• P9 – 07 “I was too busy in the combat, so I just tapped the skill icon without think. Also I was not sure about

the healing mechanics.”• P1 – 06 “I didn’t notice the green indication, and had no idea how to use my healer.”

• As a player, I need FTUE about Summon boss.• P3 – 14 “I didn’t know if I could tap it or not, and how many times I could use it. Also, what would happen

• As a player, I want to attack villains in another way, rather than dragging the hero to them.• P8 – 10 “ I thought the hero would attack the villain automatically after I tapped the villain. ”• P4 – 06 “ I just wanted to drag the hero close to the villains, and let him to attack either one. ”

• As a player, I think sometimes it's hard to target the villain that I want to attack. • P9 – 06 He always failed to target the villains.• P10 – 04 “failed even I saw the red circle showed up, that was just weird.”

• As a player, I need a better explanation about the hero skill. • P10 – 08 “I needed a detailed explanation.”• P5 – 05 “not really sure how to use each skill.”

• As a player, I want a better experience adjusting the visual angle. • P3 – 14 “I accidently changed the viewing angle, and had no idea how to switch back.”• P2 – 18 “It was hard to rotate the screen, I had to use two fingers, and it was uncomfortable.”

• As a player, I want AI has a better balance.• P9 – 01 “I don’t like to battle with the boss. Because each side has the healer, I could neither win nor die. Just

time consuming and annoying.”• P7 – 14 “Hope AI could have a better balance. That being said, even only have limited concepts in the game,

the players could figure out countless ways to play and have fun themselves.”

• As a player, I don't understand some icons.• P1 – 17 “I don’t understand the give up icon, why do I need to give up?”• P7 – 13 “The default mini map icon should has – in it rather than + , because – represents zoom out, and the

first time you tap it should be zoom out.”

• As a player, I want to customize and personalize my main character. • P9 – 09 “ I want to customize the appearance of the main character.”• P7 – 08 “ The style is just too ordinary. I want to customize it by myself, it could either look really like me, or

the one that I fantasy.”

• As a player, I need a more intuitive view of my HP bar.• P3 – 05 “I really wanted to see the bar and figured who has lowest HP, but when I tapped the hero, nothing

showed up.”• P1 – 09 “ It’s really important to me, I want to see it all the time.”

• As a player, I think the visual indication doesn't help me to select the hero.• P6 – 08 “I didn't’t notice the indication because my finger always covered it.”• P5 – 09 “ I didn't’t pay attention to it.”

• As a player, I am confused about how to perform the hero skill. • P10 – 03 He tried to drag candy girl’s skill icon.• P3 – 18 He tried to drag Kotetsu’s skill icon.

• As a player, I want a better story. • P7 – 11 “I just don’t buy the story.”• P8 – 02 “Hope the story could be fleshed out.”

• As a player, I think if two heroes partially overlap, it's hard to select the hero in the back.• P6 – 06 “It’s just hard, especially I was really busy in the combat.”• P5 – 06 “Not only heroes, sometimes my hero and the villain overlapped.”

• As a player, I want to have multiple paths that I can explore in the current map. • P10 – 9 he didn’t tap the location node, thought the character would go anywhere he tapped in the map.• P7 – 10 “ It was boring that I only had one path in the game, and also I couldn’t even go backwards.”

• As a player, I need a clearer character detail page. • P8 – 09 “Currently there is not too much info in the character detail page.”• P7 – 17 Not really get it. He tapped go button, and thought would go to next page or something else.

• As a player, I feel the animation of c-girl's skill be played in a wrong part of the combat field. • P3 – 02 “ I attacked a villain at the corner, but I saw the attack animation in the middle of the screen, weird.”• P6 – 4 “ The animation couldn’t effectively express she attacked all the villains in the combat field.”

• As a player, I want to have PVP. • P2 – 02 “hope there has multiple ways to play it. PVP would be fun.”

• As a player, I want to accelerate the pace of movement in the game.• P8 – 08 “Need to quicken the pace of attack, performing skills, and walking. ”• P4 – 21 Just kept tapping the hero. She said she wanted to speed up the combat.

• As a player, I want ayakashi 2 has close connection with ayakashi 1.• P7 – 03 “The classroom as the combat field is a little bit boring and too close to my real life. I want something

like ayakashi 1.”• P6 – 10 “The current demo is too modern, compared with ayakashi 1.”

• As a player, I want to tap the exclamation mark above the principal. • P9 – 11 At the beginning of the game, he just kept tapping the exclamation mark, and didn’t know to tap the

location node to move forward. • P10 – 06 “Thought the principal wanted to talk with the character, so I just tapped the exclamation mark.”

• As a player, I feel the animation is too long at the beginning.• P9 – 10 “It was just too long.”

• As a player, I want long-term goals in the game.• P7 – 12 “It is really important for me to have a long – term goal, then I would know why I am playing the

game.”

• As a player, I want clearer indications about the combat and "getting a new hero" on location nodes.

• P9 – 14 “ I need a clearer indication so I can prepare in advance. ”
