Asthe AWC year comes to a close and we

prepare or the passing o the gavel, Ithought it appropriate to share a ew

things I learned as a leader this past year.

    1. Proessional Doesnt Mean Boring2. People Are Smarter Tan Tey Look3. Communicators Need o Communicate

Professional Doesnt Mean BoringPersonalityshare it. O course, there is an

expected behavior in every social situation (Im nottelling you to put a lampshade on your head at theoce party), but i youre bored, youre going to beboring. As women, we are conditioned to hide our

emotions so we can be taken seriously. Let go oothers expectations o the distinguished proessionalthat rerains rom sharing her personality, and beyoursel. You will make deeper connections, andpeople will relate to you more.

People Are Smarter Tan Tey Look (and act)Im not suggesting anyone I know looks stupid

(well, some o thembut thats beside the point),but instead people are much deeper than they rstappear. Our lie experiences are a huge part o howwe do our jobs, and when we get to know people andtheir experiences, we can add value to our own lives.

Dont judge a book by its cover!

Communicators Need o CommunicateIve ound that there are two distinct types o

communications proessionals - the introvert andthe extrovert - and both types must condition

    themselves to

communicate to allaudiences. I tend tobe an introvert. I live, breathe, and bathein eMedia becausethats how I preerto communicate.Unortunately, I missan entire audienceo people when I dothis - the extrovertwho preers tocommunicate F2F(ace-to-ace). Ascommunicators, its imperative we considpersonalities and their communications preein order to reach them.

I look orward to the coming year with oupresident, Jill Randolph. She is a smart, proescommunicator who Im certain will bring vathe organization. Tank you or letting me our chapter this past year, and to everyone helped add value over the years. Its been a leaexperience!

o lead people, walk beside them As for thleaders, the people do not notice their existencenext best, the people honor and praise. Te nex

people fear; and the next, the people hate Wthe best leaders work is done the people say, Wit ourselves! La

    Angela Frizell

    THANK YOU!

    Dear Association o Women

in Communications:Tank you or the many ways in which

you support women and girls in our com-

munity. Te sta at KSMU and Ozarks Public elevision appreciates having the opportunity to help

mote your programs and activities because we, too, are committed to creating awareness about the

women & girls are acing and empowering them to step into leadership roles.

Te public service announcements KSMU and OP ran on behal o the Association or Wom

Communications in April have a total value o $725 but are being provided as a ree public service to

organization. We want you to know how pleased we are to have had the opportunity to make this in

    ment in your organization.

Again, thank you or your good work in our community.
