Dive Into Accessibility http://diveintoaccessibility.org/ This book answers two questions. The first question is "Why should I make my web site more accessible?" If you do not have a web site, this book is not for you. The second question is "How can I make my web site more accessible?" If you are not convinced by the first answer, you will not be interested in the second. This has been added to Accessibility Resources Subject Tracer™ Information Blog. Their Visitor Centre is open seven days a week. Interactive displays show global issues such as energy generation and transport, and practical, everyday solutions for everyone. CAT also runs a free information service, answering enquiries on a massive range of topics by phone, letter or email, five days a week. For bigger projects, there is also a consultancy service. GetHuman Project http://gethuman.com/ The gethuman project is a consumer movement to improve the quality of phone support in the US. This free website is run by volunteers and is powered by over one million consumers who demand high quality phone support from the companies that they use. They will soon publish a list of the best and worst mass-market consumer companies in the US based on how long it takes to get to a human on the phone and on the quality of support received. blogs. CrunchBoard is permanently linked from these sites. It's the electronic version of the ultimate insider's network. Use CrunchBoard to connect with the most dynamic programmers, designers, entrepreneurs, executives, venture capitalists and others who are deeply interested in the new web, and looking for their next career step. This has been added to Employment Resources Subject Tracer™ Information Blog. Web Form Factory http://www.webformfactory.com/ You've spent hours designing and implementing your form in PhotoShop, Illustrator, ImageReady, FreeHand, FireWorks, DreamWeaver (etc.) and it's shiny and looks gorgeous. But unless you send it to a developer or learn PHP, it will remain useless forever. Web Form Factory is an open source web form generator which automatically generates the necessary backend code to tie your form to a database. By generating the backend code for you, WFF saves you time... time you could spend doing more interesting stuff. This has been added to World Wide Web Reference Subject Tracer™ Information Blog. FreeMarker - Template Engine http://freemarker.sourceforge.net/ FreeMarker is a "template engine"; a generic tool to generate text output (anything from HTML to autogenerated source code) based on templates. It's a Java package, a class library for Java programmers. It's not an application for end-users in itself, but something that programmers can embed into their products. FreeMarker is designed to be practical for the generation of HTML Web pages, particularly by servlet-based applications following the MVC (Model View Controller) pattern. The idea behind using the MVC pattern for dynamic Web pages is that you separate the designers (HTML authors) from the programmers. Everybody works on what they are good at. Designers can change the appearance of a page without programmers having to change or recompile code, because the application logic (Java programs) and page design (FreeMarker templates) are separated. Templates do not become polluted with complex program fragments. This separation is useful even for projects where the programmer and the HMTL page author is the same person, since it helps to keep the application clear and easily maintainable. Although FreeMarker has some programming capabilities, it is not a full-blown programming language like PHP. Instead, Java programs prepare the data to be displayed (like issue SQL queries), and FreeMarker just generates textual pages that display the prepared data using templates. This has been added to World Wide Web Reference Subject Tracer™ Information Blog. FutureLab - A New Learning Landscape http://www.futurelab.org.uk/ Futurelab is passionate about transforming the way people learn. Tapping into the huge potential offered by digital and other technologies, we are developing innovative learning resources and practices that support new approaches to education for the 21st century. Instructables - Step By Step Collaboration http://www.instructables.com/ Instructables is a website brought to you by the partners at www.squid-labs.com. They make a lot of stuff, for business, and for pleasure. They have been looking for a long time for a convenient system for documenting their how-to projects, and the things they make, but it simply didn't exist. They decided they would have to develop it themself, and here it is, it will evolve as they grow to meet their own rigorous demands, and those of their users. Principal in our demands is convenience - it should take less time to document a project than it did to build it. They have been thinking and working in this space indirectly for more than 5 years, following the developments in Open Source Software, blogs, wikis, and version control systems. Postgenomic - Life Science Blog Aggregator http://www.postgenomic.com/ Postgenomic aggregates posts from life science blogs and then does useful and interesting things with that data. For example, it allows you to get an instant picture of which web sites are being heavily linked to by researchers in the medical sciences, or which papers are being cited or reviewed most often by bioinformaticians, or which buzzwords are being used the most frequently by evolutionary biologists. It's sort of like a hot papers meeting with the entire biomed blogging community. Postgenomic's primary purpose is to act as a central repository for reviews of scientific papers and for conference reports. You can help with this by adding some very simple semantic markup to your blog posts when you write a review of a paper. In this context a "review" isn't necessarily a particularly long or critical assessment of the paper (though it could be): it's simply any information that other researchers might find useful. Daikon Invariant Detector http://pag.csail.mit.edu/daikon/ Daikon is an implementation of dynamic detection of likely invariants; that is, the Daikon invariant detector reports likely program invariants. An invariant is a property that holds at a certain point or points in a program; these are often seen in assert statements, documentation, and formal specifications. Invariants can be useful in program understanding and a host of other applications. Examples include “.field > abs(y)”; “y = 2*x+3”; “array a is sorted”; “for all list objects lst, lst.next.prev = lst”; “for all treenode objects n, n.left.value < null =""> p.content in myArray”; and many more. extend Daikon to add new properties (see Enhancing Daikon output). Dynamic invariant detection runs a program, observes the values that the program computes, and then reports properties that were true over the observed executions. Daikon can detect properties in C, C++, Java, Perl, and IOA programs; in spreadsheet files; and in other data sources. (Dynamic invariant detection is a machine learning technique that can be applied to arbitrary data.) It is easy to extend Daikon to other applications; as one example, an interface exists to the Java PathFinder model checker. TRIP Free Access Evidence-Based Medicine Database - Turning Research Into Practice http://www.tripdatabase.com/index.html TRIP Free Access Database is one of the Internet's leading resources for Evidence-Based Medicine. Allowing users to easily and rapidly identify the highest quality evidence from a wide range of sources. The TRIP Database began in 1997 as a result of the work of the founders (Jon Brassey and Dr Chris Price) in answering clinical questions. One of the remits of answering the clinical questions was to return them in a clinically relevant time frame. As well as being quick the clinical questions needed to be answered using the best available evidence. Therefore, to identify the best evidence involved moving from website to website in order to identify relevant material. If each site took 5 minutes to search and 12 websites were examined it added an hour to the search time. If all the content were searchable at one website it would significantly improve the search time. Initially, a manual search of each evidence-based site was undertaken with titles, URL and year of publication recorded in a spreadsheet. Shortly afterwards a chance conversation led to the spreadsheet being converted to a crude web-based search engine. Since then it has grown significantly in terms of ease of use, coverage and popularity. The aims of the TRIP Database have remained the same since 1997 - allow health professionals to easily find the highest-quality material available on the web. The TRIP Database is produced by TRIP Database Ltd (for more information on TRIP Database Ltd see below). The evolution of the TRIP Database has been guided by the desire to answer real clinical questions. TRIP Database Ltd’s involvement in clinical question answering (for more information see TRIP Knowledge Services) has shown the type of material that is useful in answering genuine questions health professionals have. More recently the site has been externally evaluated by a team from the Centre for Evidence-Based Medicine (www.cebm.net) led by Professor Paul Glasziou. The findings of this report have been very useful in this latest site upgrade. For approximately 4 years the TRIP Database became a subscription service which ended in September 2006. This

allowed for a dramatic improvements in the site. However, it also significantly restricted use. BuzzLogic http://www.BuzzLogic.com/ Influence moves markets. It’s a basic tenet of marketing. But until now, it’s been impossible to understand influence -- and who wields it -- within specific conversations taking place in social media. BuzzLogic changes this dynamic by uniquely defining and measuring influence in social media, and by surfacing the key influencers who are shaping and defining markets, issues and reputations. Through the lens of influence, BuzzLogic provides a means for marketing and communications practitioners to engage with social media in order to manage their brands, reputations, products and customer relationships. As a result, the confusion that has characterized social media is replaced by clarity – marketers can make sense of the conversations they care about. And they can do something about them. At BuzzLogic, our mission is to apply the science of influence to the world of social media. This requires keen insight into dynamic conversational networks, a methodology premised on the idea that influence is in and of itself dynamic, and an ability to identify which participants in conversations are gaining or losing influence over time. In this study, the support for Internet censorship is empirically analyzed using survey data. Notwithstanding the potential limitations of survey data, the results indicate the characteristics of those who tend to favor and disfavor Internet censorship. Specifically, concerns over pornography and concerns over government regulation on the Internet Subject Tracer™ Information Blogs Subject Tracer™ Information Blogs created and developed by the Virtual Private Library™ combine the best of the latest tools on the Internet.
