Awards for All - what is it?• Awards for All is the Big Lottery Fund’s small grants programme
• The programme aims to help improve local communities and the lives of people most in need.
• The programme is always open, and there are no deadlines.
• The application form is short and simple.
• You will find out if you are successful within six weeks.
Outcomes Funder
All projects must meet at least one of BIG’s 4 programme outcomes:
─ people having better chances in life with better access to training and development to improve their life skills
─ For example: Purchase of IT equipment for an intergenerational project so young people can help older people improve their IT skills
─ stronger communities with more active citizens working together to tackle their problems
─ For example: A telephone helpline offering advice and support for people with cancer and their carers
─ improved rural and urban environments which communities are better able to access and enjoy
─ For example: Improving a village hall to provide better facilities for all members of the community
─ healthier and more active people and communities
─ For example: A local food project which grows its own produce and
teaches people about healthy eating.
Awards for All - How much can you apply for?• Between £300 and £10,000 for projects completed
within one year;
• Only one application at a time;
• One Awards for All funded project needs to be
completed and the End of Grant report
approved before you can apply again;
• One organisation cannot receive more than £10,000
of Awards
for All grants in any one year period.
Awards for All cannot pay for:
─ Activities that happen or start before BIG confirms the grant
─ Day-to-day running costs (including staff costs)
─ Existing activities and repeat or regular events (unless 3 years since taken place or delivered to new beneficiary types)
─ Items that mainly benefit an individual
─ Political or religious activities
─ Routine repairs and maintenance
─ Fundraising activities
Simple application process
Improving your chancesBIG scores applications to help decide who should be funded. Applications will score higher if they:
─ show strong evidence of need
─ seek to involve as wide a range of people as possible
─ meet more than one of our outcomes
─ are from groups that have never received an Awards for All grant
─ are from groups with a smaller annual income
─ are for smaller projectsThe scoring guide
used to assess Awards for All is on the
website
Common Reject Reasons
─ Outside programme remit - apply for things we do not fund (more suited to another lottery distributor)
─ Insufficient evidence of need
─ Does not make link between project’s outcomes and programme outcomes
