Awards & Accolades in 2008-09

Performance of SAIL has been widely recognized by all stakeholders including leading financial institutions / rating agencies and industry bodies, winning several awards/ accolades in various fields during the financial year 2008-09. Some of the major awards are:

� Highest number of Vishwakarma Award 2007 amongst both public and private sectors bagged by SAIL employees: 15 out of total 28 awards (54% of total awards).

� 25 SAIL employees received Prime Minister’s Shram Awards 2006-42% of total awards in the country.

� SAIL Quality Circles team won highest number of awards in the country at the International QC meet in Bangladesh held in the last week of Oct ’08; seven Excellent, seven Extra Ordinary and one Meritorious Awards.

� Indian Institute of Metals conferred awards to 4 SAIL professionals viz. OP Jindal Award. 3 SAIL executives also declared Metallurgist of the Year-Young Metallurgist of the Year.

� National Institute of Personnel Management conferred the National Award on SAIL for Best HR Practices 2008.

� SAIL is among the ‘top companies’ selected for National Award for Excellence in Corporate Governance 2008 by the Institute of Company Secretaries of India.

� Institute of Chartered Accountants of India conferred ICAI Awards for Excellence in Financial Reporting under the category of Manufacturing & Trading Enterprises.

� CII ITC Sustainability Award – 2008 conferred on SAIL amongst large business organizations.

� SAIL was adjudged as the top Indian company under the Iron and Steel Sector for the Dun & Bradstreet – Rolta Corporate Awards 2008.

� Best turnaround PSU by Dalal Street Investment Journal in March 2009.

� ‘Good Performance Award’ ICWAI National Award for Excellence in Cost Management – 2008 conferred on SAIL. ICWAI National Award for Excellence in Cost Management – 2008 conferred on BSP.

� SAIL was adjudged best PSU and conferred with Business and Economy Leadership and Excellence Awards 2008 by Planman Media.

� BSP won CII Sustainability Award – 2008 in independent unit category.

� Greentech Safety Gold Award by Greentech Foundation for outstanding achievement in Safety Management to Bhilai Steel Plant.

� Golden Peacock Award for Combating Climate Change – 2008 for BSP, Occupational Health and Safety – 2008 for BSL.

� Employer Branding Award 2007-08 to SAIL under the category "Best HR strategy in line with business" at the Asia Pacific Human Resource Management Congress.

� SAIL has been selected as Business Superbrand 2008 and falls within the top 5% of all brands across all segments and all categories.

� 1st Prize to SSP amongst Secondary Steel Plants/ Alloy Steel Plants category by IIM.

� The second prize of National Sustainability Award in the Integrated Steel Plant category to RSP from Indian Institute of Metals.

� BSP awarded Golden Peacock Award for CSR – 2008 presented in global conference in Portugal.

� First prize for promoting the usage of Hindi in the official work to SAIL from Town Official Language Implementation Committee (PSUs-Delhi) constituted by Govt. of India. 2 first prizes for best in-house hindi magazine to Ispat Bhasha Bharti - one at national level from GOI, Ministry of Home Affairs and second from TOLIC-Delhi.
