Compatibility

Avid can only assure compatibility and provide support for qualified hardware and software configurations.

Application Manager 2.4 supports Windows 7 and 8, and Mac OS X 10.10.2 (Yosemite).

For the latest compatibility information—including qualified computers, operating systems, and third-party

products—visit the Avid website (www.avid.com/compatibility).

Installation and Operation

For more information about the Avid Applications Manager, see the Avid Application Manager Guide.

Canceling the installation of Application Manager 2.3 patch (upgrade) corrupts dependent

components (Windows Only) (RELENG-1238)

On Windows, if you cancel the installation of Application Manager 2.3, dependent components may be

corrupted. To correct this problem, do one of the following:

Reinstall the application that was installed along with Application Manager (such as Pro Tools or Media

Composer).

Log in to your MyAvid account, and download and install Application Manager 2.3 (or higher) from the

Avid Download Center.

New Features

Support of Restricted Users

With this release, Application Manager supports local and network groups for restricting rights of the

Application Manager users. When the Application Manager administrator turns on the restriction mode, other

Application Manager users assigned to the specific user group will experience certain restrictions when

working with Application Manager.

Auto-Activation Feature

With this release, Application Manager users can activate Media Composer and Sibelius just by using their

Avid credentials. As soon as the user logs in to Application Manager, Media Composer, bought but not

activated yet, will be auto-activated. The result will be reflected on the Licensing tab of Application Manager.

Multi-Seat Activation

With this release, Application Manager comes along not only with Media Composer and Pro Tools, but also

with Sibelius. With Sibelius License Server you can generate a certain amount of licenses for a group of

people to work with Sibelius – Sibelius License Server and a bunch of the licenses can be activated from Application Manager as well.

Fixed Bugs

The following bugs have been fixed:

Bug Number: AMPT-1643. ApplicationManagerHelper gets installed and sends out data to

FlexNetConnect even if the user canceled installation and does not agree with EULA.

Bug Number: AMPT-1718. Dongle was not deactivated after conversion.

Bug Number: AMPT-1819. Application Manager UI did not respond after the cable was plugged back

(Mac OS X only).

Bug Number: AMPT-1820. More than one machine could use the same license code.

Bug Number: AMPT-2060. Synchronization bar showed wrong time.

Bug Number: AMPT-2129. Users want to get a recovery steps in case they cancelled installation of

Application Manager in the middle and stuck in situation when the Application Manager process and

service have different incompatible versions.

Bug Number: AMPT-2186. Monthly Media Composer subscription had 3 days of grace period instead

of 4.

Bug Number: AMPT-2217. The known_productlist.json file got rewritten on attempting to downgrade

Application Manager.

Bug Number: AMPT-2224. Floating license: Optional features were not reactivated after checkout of

the Media Composer license.

Bug Number: AMPT-2269. Application Manager did not show a message about time shift detection, if

it was opened through Media Composer electronic activation.

Bug Number: AMPT-2283. Window upgrades from 2.3.0 to 2.4.0 failed.

Bug Number: AMPT-2292. ApplicationManagerHelper did not start after installing Application

Manager.

Bug Number: AMPT-2293. It was impossible to uninstall the Application Manager.

Bug Number: AMPT-2368. Pro Tools - Analytics bug opt in does not have a default key command.

Bug Number: AMPT-2369. Localization for a tooltip required.

Bug Number: AMPT-2395. Application Manager did not was without high level certificate (Windows

only).

Bug Number: AMPT-2400. Restrict Admin features: License details were not disabled.

Bug Number: AMPT-2405. The Account tab always showed "Connecting ..." after deleting or

corrupting the known_productlist.json file.

Bug Number: AMPT-2407. Attempting to update to AM 2.3.3 redirected to the Account login area.

Bug Number: AMPT-2428. Sibelius 8.0 online activation failed in App Manager 2.4.

Bug Number: AMPT-2464. The “Renew License” option in the Settings drop-down list appeared to be

redundant.

Bug Number: AMPT-2467. The “Check for Update” and “Refresh Apps” options should have been

replaced with the “Sync Account” option.

Bug Number: AMPT-2468. Localization issues (Sibelius support): UI was corrupted and titles and

labels were improperly positioned on the tabs.

Bug Number: AMPT-2471. The Settings > Licensing > Copy License Info to Clipboard option should

have been removed from the Setting drop-down list.

Bug Number: AMPT-2477. During auto-activation Application Manager could not pick up the single

valid license.

Bug Number: AMPT-2487. Auto-activation was not triggered if another license had been deactivated

manually.

Bug Number: AMPT-2493. Actual information about the floating licensing status appears after the

second Sync Account clicking.

Bug Number: AMPT-2491. Notification bubbles did not hide automatically (Mac OS X only).

Bug Number: AMPT-2493. Actual information about the floating licensing status appeared after the

second clicking the Sync Account option.

Bug Number: AMPT-2497. The floating server was disabled if a restricted mode had been turned on by

the initial launch.

Bug Number: AMPT-2498. Updating Application Manager did not update the "known_productlist.json"

file.

Bug Number: AMPT-2499. Switching users from different groups: UI logs could not be (over)written.

Bug Number: AMPT-2550. Support Plan was displayed as Expired although it was not.

Bug Number: AMPT-2551. Application Manager License tab: UI froze.

Bug Number: AMPT-2552. Auto-activation was triggered for already activated products.

Bug Number: AMPT-2556. Auto-activation for a restricted User: the Deactivate button was not

disabled.

Bug Number: AMPT-2559. Application Manager crashed after launch.

Bug Number: AMPT-2560. Purchased plugins were not populated as available for download.

Bug Number: AMPT-2561. The 'Select activation method' drop-down list should have been hidden for

Restricted User.

Bug Number: AMPT-2562. Users from a restricted network user group were not restricted (Mac OS X

only).

Bug Number: AMPT-2563. There were issues with the status button for certain products on the Apps

tab of Application Manager.

Bug Number: AMPT-2565. Dongle information did not display properly.

Bug Number: AMPT-2573. After auto-activation the Activate button did not change to Deactivate, and

the license details were not populated.

Bug Number: AMPT-2574. Application Manager Licensing Tab did not show dependent products.

Bug Number: AMPT-2575. Security dialog: the Administrator’s credentials were cached and could be

used by a restricted user.

Bug Number: AMPT-2576. Security dialog: there was an improper message in case of incorrect

username.

Bug Number: AMPT-2577. The fact the product was activated was not reflected on the Licensing tab.

Bug Number: AMPT-2578. Local non-restricted User could not enable admin functions in Application

Manager for a network restricted User.

Bug Number: AMPT-2579. Application Manager mixed up cached and auto-activated licenses on the

Licensing tab.

Bug Number: AMPT-2580. Security dialog: The error message text alignment did not look good.

Bug Number: AMPT-2617. Sibelius and Sibelius License Server (SLS) were marked as

'alwaysRefreshable' application in the known_productlist.json file.

Bug Number: AMPT-2618. The known_productlist.json file was not overwritten when Application

Manager was is updated.

Bug Number: AMPT-2621. Sibelius activation: The Temporary label displayed for the subscription.

Bug Number: AMPT-2622. Application Manager did not update the PACE licensing details and

dependent information.

Bug Number: AMPT-2633. Licensing tab: No info if the license on iLok is Expired.

Bug Number: AMPT-2634. Application Manager did not pick up activated license if several similar

were deposited on iLok.

Bug Number: AMPT-2635. PT, PT First and related: statuses were not switched to [Login] after

deactivation.

Bug Number: AMPT-2636. Not all included in PT subscription products were available on the Apps

tab.

Bug Number: AMPT-2637. Updating dongle with Symphony/News Cutter options deleted Contract

Expiration Date.

Bug Number: AMPT-2638. The Upgrade button should have been removed from the Sibelius Support

Contract. No time should have been shown as Contract Expiration.

Bug Number: AMPT-2641. The Pause/Resume button did not work because of external disabling.

Bug Number: AMPT-2644. Crash of Application Manager UI after activation/deactivation of Sibelius

(Windows 8 only).

Bug Number: AMPT-2646. Sibelius License Server's category was Artist Suite.

Bug Number: AMPT-2651. Apps Tab: the Download, Update, and Install buttons should have been

disabled for Restricted User.

Bug Number: AMPT-2652. Activated applications: clicking the Download button redirected to the

Login page.

Bug Number: AMPT-2656. Licensing tab: Admin Functions were not available when it was turned on.

Bug Number: AMPT-2659. Media Composer: Restricted mode was ignored if no product was activated.

Bug Number: AMPT-2664. Clicking the Renew button redirected to Not Found page.

Bug Number: AMPT-2667. Deactivation of Sibelius cleared statuses for Media Composer and related

applications on the Apps tab.

Bug Number: AMPT-2668. The Upgrade button on the Support tab was not disabled for Restricted

User.

Bug Number: AMPT-2669. Apps Tab: Sibelius status remained "Login" after Sibelius was activated.

Bug Number: AMPT-2670. Account tab: SLS was named Sibelius.

Bug Number: AMPT-2672. Sibelius and SLS: issues with auto-activation.

Bug Number: AMPT-2674. The Deactivate button for extra seats was not enabled when switched to

non-restricted mode.

Bug Number: AMPT-2675. Manually deactivated license was auto-activated.

Bug Number: AMPT-2697. Not all Media Composer plug-ins were displayed after logging in.

Bug Number: AMPT-2698. Sibelius Subscription could not be activated: an error occurs.

Bug Number: AMPT-2700. Expiration Date for Sibelius Subscription was incorrect.

Bug Number: AMPT-2701. Sibelius support description was inconsistent with Media Composer and

Pro Tools on the Account tab.

Bug Number: AMPT-2703. Account tab: An expiration date was shown for perpetual PT First.

Bug Number: AMPT-2704. Expected products were not available when Media Composer was activated

and user was not logged in.

Bug Number: AMPT-2709. Application Manager launched in a full-size mode during installation of

Sibelius and Sibelius License Server.

Bug Number: AMPT-2714. Account tab: there was incomplete information about the support plan in

some subscriptions in the German localization.

Known Issues

Switching users is unsupported

Avid Application Manger does not support switching between users and 2 instances of Application Manager.

Multiple Application Manager tray icons (Windows only, AMPT-1526)

If you stop the Application Manager and Avid Application Manager Helper processes using the Windows

Task Manager, the Application Manager icon remains in the system tray. Thus, there can be more than one

Application Manager tray icon. The icons for the previous sessions disappear only when you move mouse

cursor over the system tray.

Compatibility issues

When downgrading from Application Manager 2.2+ and Media Composer 8.3+ to older versions, you may

see an error message "There was a critical error initializing the licensing engine". A mixed versions

(Application Manager 2.2 and Media Composer 8.2) will work as long as the database was created by an

older version of Application Manager or Media Composer 8.2. If the database becomes corrupted, either

upgrade to Media Composer 8.3 or downgrade to Application Manager 2.1.

Database is not created if the appmanager.db folder already exists (AMPT-1493)

If you delete the contents of the appmanager.db folder, but leave the folder itself,

AvidApplicationManagerHelper fails to create a database.

This directory can be found:

On Windows: C:\ProgramData\Avid\AppManager\Db

On Mac OS X: /Library/Caches/Avid/AppMan/Db/

Workaround

To create a database, do the following:

1. Quit Avid Application Manager Helper.

2. Delete the appmanager.db folder

3. Relaunch Avid Application Manager Helper.

OS X Firewall is on after every login (Mac OS X, AMPT-2476)

AvidAppManHelper.app needs incoming network connections for working with Pro Tools 12.0. After you

install Pro Tools 12 and reboot your computer, you are prompted to log in and allow AvidAppManHelper.app

such network connection. However, after you launch Pro Tools 12, quit it, log out the Mac OS X user

account, and then log in to it again, you are prompted to accept incoming network connections again.

The Sibelius status remains Not Activated when activated via Sibelius License Server (AMPT-2666)

On the Licensing tab of Application Manager, the Sibelius status will not be changed from Not Activated to

Activated, if you use the Sibelius License Server for activating.

Workaround: Online Activate Sibelius with the Online or Offline activation methods to make Application

Manager display the actual state.

Clicking another tab returns the user to the Account tab (AMPT-2673)

By default, after launching, Application Manager shows the Account tab. If you try to click another tab

without logging in, Application Manager returns you back to the Account tab without displaying the current

state of the desired tab.

After activating SLS Application Manager displays an occasional tab (the Licensing tab should always

be displayed) (AMPT-2665)

Having activated the Sibelius License Server (SLS) via Application Manager, launch SLS to manage the

licenses on the Licenses tab. Confirming the pop-up message about disconnection of the current users of the

license server redirects you to Application Manager. The tab to be displayed depends on which actions were

performed with Application Manager UI before:

If you closed Application Manager UI with the Close button, you would see the tab that you

left before launching Sibelius License Server.

If you closed Application Manager UI with the Quit option from the system tray or Dock,

you would see the Account tab.

If you did not close Application Manager UI, you would only see the Application Manager

icon blinking in the system taskbar.

Plugin's status does not switch to Current after update is installed (Mac OS X 10.10.2) (AMPT-2474)

When Pro Compressor is installed, AM notifies up Update available. When downloaded and installed,

Application Manager still shows the Install status and no amount of "installing" will bring to the Current one.

Workaround: restart Application Manager UI by clicking the Application Manager Dock icon and choosing

Quit.

The Browse button is grayed out though active for offline activation (AMPT-2717)

Working in the restricted mode of Application Manager, switch to the full functioning mode by selecting the

Allow Admin Functions options. Go to the License tab to activate either Media Composer or Sibelius via the

offline activation method. The Browse button for uploading the license file for the offline activation method

is still grayed out as if you are in the restricted mode.

Workaround: despite the Browse button is grayed out, it is active. Click it to choose the license file.

External refresh: Sibelius update is not shown after SLS is activated (AMPT-2746)

If you are not logged in and you activate Sibelius License Server, Sibelius update is not shown on the Apps

tab of Application Manager. The following statements are in force:

When you activate Sibelius, both Sibelius and SLS updates are shown on Apps tab.

When you log in with Sibelius entitlements only, both Sibelius and SLS become available on the Apps

tab.

When you log in with SLS entitlements only, both Sibelius and SLS become available on the Apps tab.
