PRINTHEADS
Innovative nozzle architecture Page-width printhead contains 70,400 nozzles
(1600 nozzles per inch) Prints in true 1600x1600 DPI and has 5 color
channels per printhead that can be configured with different color combinations for different market needs
Integrated redundancy you can’t see a nozzle out at 1600dpi
11 MEMJET CHIPS ARE PART OF EACH A4 PRINTHEAD. EACH CHIP HAS 6,400 INK NOZZLES
10 ROWS OF 70,400 NOZZLES FOR 5 COLORS AT 1,600 DPI

TECHNOLOGY IN FOCUS
• Half the printhead (PH) assembly process steps (41 in total) are in a Class 1K cleanroom while the remainder are in a 10K cleanroom to reduce the possibility of contamination and nozzle clogging
• Memjet PH nozzles are smaller than the width of a human hair
• Particles in the ink > 4 µm (1/2 the width of a human red blood cell) can clog the printhead so precise ink mfg. processes and printer filters are required
• Industry leading small drop size leads to low energy use and native 1600 DPI
• Printhead QA inspections include 100% calibration print tests looking at dead nozzle counts and fine streak rates using high resolution scanners. QA includes visual inspection of multiple PQ attributes with grading vs anchor plots
• PH manufacturing includes microscopic grading of die & nozzle sizes. Like chips are grouped together during the creation of a PH to minimize die to die differences & increase overall PQ
• Print engine controller has over 100 million transistors supporting high speed
The Result: 70,400 nozzles designed to fire up to 774 million drops per second

DYE INK OVERVIEW
• Dyes are small molecules that dissolve in the ink vehicle. Dye can exhibit high color strength with higher chroma than pigment inks.
• High quality coated media combined with dye ink provides excellent color performance and durability. Media coating hold dyes near the the surface.
• Pairing with the correct media, dyes are often the best choice for printing photos or graphics.
• On absorbent, or plain papers, dyes can be carried by the ink vehicle deeper into the media structure, which can lead to loss in color saturation and OD.

MEDIA PROGRAM
Memjet and our OEM’s recognize the importance of media in the overall printed solution. Even with media as a substantial portion of the overall TCO, Memjet competes very well against competitive technologies such as Flexo.
•Short-run color often improves business efficiency by driving faster and more accurate processes and reduces cost
Memjet would like to help enable a wider array of media solutions that provide value add
• Memjet has created an evaluation process that can be used to self evaluate medias
• Memjet is in the process of publishing a list of medias qualified by our OEM’s along with medias that have been evaluated by vendors like Avery Dennison.
• Memjet OEM’s perform final media qualification for their particular hardware solutions along with color profiles for specific solutions that are required

GLENOAK FOODS - CASE STUDY
• Overview – – Glenoaks is a USDA regulated private label manufacturer for jerky products– Managing over 900 different SKU’s with double digit grown for last 5 years
• The Problem Statement –– Required new or updated labels daily from their private label customer based– We've thrown out probably three-quarters of the labels because they become outdated, or the USDA or the FDA guidelines for using
those labels has changed– Custom labels to support holiday’s, sporting events, or other customer requirements are common
• The Solution- – Prints up to 5k labels in-house per day on this Colordyne 1600– Resolution and quality better than outsourced product– Labels are water resistant and pretty durable – Now have the ability to just reprint and replace labels stock on demand
• The Solution -
“The ability to do short runs for customers on a special need basis brings in new business, and we can't even put a cost value on that because we're bringing in business we never would've had otherwise.” – John Fallon, President

CALIFORNIA LABEL – CASE STUDY
• Overview- – Calif. Label is a label and tag converter located in Los Angeles– Prints wide variety of retail tags, warehouse labels, product labels, shipping labels– Daily volumes run into the millions
• The Problem Statement-– Previously was using a 2 step process to complete a label. Pre-print stock via flexo, then
finish with thermal printer– With each tag or label having 4-5 variations, the overhead cost and management of the
offerings was becoming impractical to manage
• The Solution-– Just order blank stock and print digitally using Memjet technology from Afinia – Added in the DLP-2000 for die cutting and laminating to expand the business into food and
beverage
“Many of the tags that we print for retail stores need some type of color information, most commonly color to size printing. Now we can print all that on the fly. We no longer have any preprinted inventory so that expense is gone.” - Nick Garcia, VP Operations

EXACTO CASE STUDY REVIEW
• Customer Information – – Manufacturer of adjuvants and surfactant blender materials– Branded and private label manufacturer
• Problem Statement – – Over 5000 SKU’s to label, up to 7k produced per day – 12 different package sizes from small bottle to large cartons – Cannot rely on outsize vendors due to variety of SKUs and volume shifts daily
• The Solution –– Added laminator for the application of UV varnish and lamination for durability – Laser cutter allowed a lot of flexibility in shapes and sizes for the private label customers– Cost saving of 23% over previous solutions
“We ultimately chose the 3600 Sprint based on 3 factors: Print quality, reliability, and support from Colordyne” – Tom Martin, Project Manager

SUMMARY
• Challenges– Print Quality……equal to or better than offset on all available media types– Substrate cost…..improve availability with lower costs
• Growth in single pass inkjet printing– Print quality improving combined with ever increasing print speed
For example 300 feet per min 1600 x 1375 DPI– Memjet growing by scaling into very fast page wide arrays
Increasing speeds High print quality Economical cost
• Innovations to open up new markets– Increases in print quality– Increased component and Printhead life– Increases in ink versatility – Media substrate flexibility
