Mark Watson14th October // £16

At 8pm in the main auditorium

Mark Watson was a victim of identity theft. Someone successfully posed

as him and took all his money. It made him think about the power of

the Internet, the nature of identity, the way to stop crime forever and live in a better world, and some other smaller

matters.

He has now finished thinking about these things and is ready to present

his findings, laced with a barrage of new jokes, stories, observations

and anecdotes, in his new show. May contain optional audience

interaction, games, improvisation and unaggressive banter.

Eric Lampaert15th October // £12

At 8pm in the studio theatre

Resembling the lovechild of Tim Burton and a hairy lampost, Eric

Lampaert has been described as ‘delightfully weird’ (Time Out) which

we think is pretty accurate. A set from Eric will never disappoint. He is an

energetic, excited, over exaggerated character who will keep you engaged

and entertained.

Cambridge Camera17th - 22nd October // free

Avenue 8 is hosting the first ever ‘Cambridge Camera’ exhibition and competition. We are encouraging people to take photos of all around Cambridge, capturing the unseen and the unnoticed beauty of the city. All participants welcome. Entries need to be submitted on our website by Saturday 5th October. In association with Cambridge Camera Club.

Antonia Grove, who has been described as a “modern dance goddess” embodies real-life American B-movie actresses, whose interviews are fed to her through earphones. In this truly original solo production, made in collaboration with Wendy Houstoun, our broken actress borders on disguise and derangement, in what is both a humorous and unnerving performance.

Small Talk is brave, compelling, funny and darkly disturbing.

The Cambridge based band, Alt-J received widespread praise and critical acclaim for their debut album ‘An Awesome Wave’.

It is difficult to place Alt-J in any genre, with comparisons being drawn to many bands including Radiohead and Foals, and styles like ‘folk-step’ being branded around. One thing is for sure: this

band are carving out their own unique niche in todays music scene. Probably most easily described simply as ‘guitar music’, Alt-J make clever and well written songs, with pop sensibilities and more cultural references than you can shake a stick at.

Don’t miss the chance to see this band while you can!

National Theatre Live: PortScreened LIVE from London

Stockport, 1988. It’s midnight. Rachel, eleven, and Billy, six, wait in the car in agitated excitement. Their mother is at her wits’ end and about to leave them for good. Their father, drunk in the flat above, has locked the door. It’s a pivotal moment, the beginning of a thirteen-year odyssey for two kids, largely abandoned and growing up in the deprived suburban shadows of Manchester.

A richly colourful portrait of a town with the everyday writ large, Simon Stephens’ Port is a celebration of the human spirit as Rachel, through sheer courage and despite an economic and political climate that pushes her into the very margins, looks to the future and opts for love and life and for something better.

Michael Kiwanuka17th October // £15

Performances at 7:30pm in the main auditorium

Winner of BBC’s Sound of 2012.

This Ugandan-Brit’s stirring voice and guitar chops won him the top spot on BBC’s Sound of 2012 list. Kiwanuka’s love of rock bands like Nirvana and Radiohead originally led him to a career as a session guitarist. But once others heard his Otis Redding-inspried crooning, it became clear he deserved the spotlight.

Performing songs from his album Home Again, Kiwanuka’s smooth voice and beautiful guitar playing will make you forget your mid-week worries.

If Michael’s music was a meal, he says it would be, ‘A massive burger with bacon and cheese on it.’ Sounds delicious.

“He’s a genius, full stop. Calling this Swiftian satirist, versatile multi-instrumentalist and gifted actor merely a comic genius is like calling

Michelangelo a house painter.” - The West Australian

Bill Bailey had Doubts about the modern world, but these have now grown into Qualms. He will be channeling these feelings of Unease and Apprehension, with the help of Religious Dubstep, his folk bouzouki, Horntallica, a re-appraisal of some of the world¹s greatest works of art and perhaps a dub version of Downton Abbey. He looks at the Consequences of Lies, the Unending Search for the Higgs and the Hiding Skills of Dentists. Bill tries to confront his Cluster-Qualm of living in a Time of Spectacular Ignorance, and Rare Planetary Alignment that may be part of the Mayan End of Days prophecy. Come savour this Broth of Anxiety with Bill Bailey Qualmpeddler.

This show has the all classic Bill Bailey elements, trademark musical mash-ups, multi-lingual riffs, films, songs, philosophizing and silliness on a grand scale… plus one amazing owl.
